I'm constantly updating her Namus profile, if she's been identified they'll remove it soon

Have you got a hint to share? Are any of our guesses on the right track?

I don't! I wish

I sure hope her daughter can find some positive answers when she is identified. Some negative speculation online she's is sure to one day see.

As tragic as all of this is, children can be very resilient. I lost my own mother when I was less than two years old. Life is usually tough for all of us. It's the conditions that she is living in presently that matters most.

Like many of us we have been sleuthing, and searching for who she was and why she made these ID changes etc. and now that we are close to an answer (or so it appears) i just know that the most important thing is that the daughter has answers, if/when the Ruff family is ready to provide them to her. Of course I am sure they are prepared to protect her in the event that there is something more sinister hiding behind it all.

I think if it was, there would be NO announcement.. They would request it be buried and quietly.. I am hoping we are pleasantly surprised

I'm sure, and sincerely hope we are surprised that she ran away and just didn't want to go back. That there wasn't really anything specific that anyone knows of. But I also don't know that they would let it go at this point, since there are so many of us who are invested in this.

I can't help but wonder if what we will hear is simply she has been positively identified and that's it, or if it will be her real name and possibly a small explanation? Guess that will probably be the tell, tell sign for me.

She (Lori Ruff) was such a cute/ pretty and interesting / intriguing person. I can't help but think the sleuthing of her past will continue no matter what information is released.

Her life (in my view) is like a LifeTime movie that has essentially written itself.

If that movie is ever made, I hope the greatest sympathy and compssion is shown for her daughter and other family and I hope that they would do as much as possible to shed light on the mental health aspects of her case.

Others can perhaps add on to this, but I have followed the different discussions pretty compulsively for a year, and there is definitely no one from the family (online or publicly, anyway) involved in attempting to identify her.

In fact, shockingly few people have come forward to say they even KNEW her, at any point, even distantly, and those very who have (i.e. a user called s/s1988) have been unverifiable, vague, have posted once or twice to say they knew her and then disappeared, or have never posted but may have had a bit of dialogue with some of the most dedicated Webleuthers. But anyway, no one who knew her, nevermind family, is actively involved in attempting to solve her identity. Not online, anyway.

That confirms my impression that LEK was not a likable person. Not to say unpleasant, but definitely distant & with few if any friends. So the people who drop in to say they knew her probably are embarrassed that when pressed for details they can't say anything positive about her or add anything to her profile. (But even the fact that she was distant or hard to like would be helpful.)

Back to the Ruffs..the indication has been that they had a fairly broken relationship & that the family leans more towards wanting to put it behind them. It has often been suggested that the family may know more than they've made public. That's speculation. Really honestly, they just seem to be very private people, probably concerned about their reputation and much less than thrilled about this dark spot in their family's history. My gut instinct is that they just want it to disappear.

That would be the easiest response to this mystery in their lives. Probably once they knew she wasn't a criminal (or a spy) living under a false name, they concluded she was a woman who had run away from an unpleasant situation & lost further interest.

Of course, once her daughter comes of age, she'll likely want to know more. Children tend to be like that, curious about their parents.

I hope this has not been a cruel joke. I have to go to work soon and I am not going to be able to concentrate.

I'm probably way behind on this - just noticed the message left on her Find-A-Grave last May:

"I will never forget you, or 1988. Sorry for the delay, I just figured out it was you. My prayers are with your Husband and child.

Is there anyone here who can contact someone who might know if this is true or not?

It is often suggested that those few who did know her personally respect her too much to talk about the situation publicly. I like to try to envision how I would behave if I lost a friend under those terrible circumstances. Removed from it personally it is a fascinating mystery, but if I knew her I might just want to remember her for the person I knew, and I might not be as fascinated as people who didn't know her personally about her mysterious history. Or I might speculate amongst other people who knew her but not be tech/online savvy or interested in participating in the discussion online.. Just throwing random thoughts out there. It is interesting how many cases on here have insiders involved in the discussion and this one doesn't at all..

Wait, why is everyone suddenly so certain that it's Cheryl?

If Cheryls age puts FLEK at 48 when she had her daughter, it's not her. We know she didn't use a donor egg because someone upthread mentioned the match was made using FLEK's daughter's DNA. I'm an infertility patient; trust me, this really is a near impossibility.

I would think at this point it would be useful to have a mod weigh in. If we are not supposed to be discussing private, facebook type information then we should not be talking about it without approval. Is there is some sufficient evidence that mods can take a look at and give the go-ahead to the continued discussion? I understand not being able share all information with all of us, because this is an open internet forum, but in that same token this is a moderated forum for a reason. I am flagging my own comment for mod review.

Who said the DNA match was from the daughter? I missed that information

Whomever wrote that message had the option of showing the message or keeping it private. He/she wanted it seen, IMO, but why? It only adds to the mystery.
