  • #21
Margaret Channon, age 24, was last seen on February 11,2019 in Presidio,Texas It is uncertain what Margaret was wearing; however, she is known to wear black and red almost exclusively. Margaret has many tattoos, including WAIF on fingers, answer phone on right wrist, pie slice image on left thigh. She also has scars on her arms. If you have any information or Texas EquuSearch at (281) 309-9500.

MISSING: Margaret Aislinn Channon – Presidio, TX (2/11/19)
I wish we knew how TX EquuSearch knows she disappeared from Presidio, TX. Was her car found there? Or she was w/friends there? Caught on CCTV?

I'm happy to see that this search org's Missing Poster adds some new identification details i.e. description of tattoos, scars on arms, that she mostly wears black & red, etc.

However, I'm curious that they only used that close-up photo of her face on poster. That photo Imo looks as though she's made-up for a "costume" occassion and looks nothing like the other photos we've seen.

The ones that I have read about are not allowed contact. It is a nightmare for the families involved.
Thank you.
Perhaps the TX Search org and/or LE automatically visit area Cults when young women go missing.

So many questions on this one! Why is she just now being reported as missing when she went missing a month ago? How did she get separated from her friends at the park? Specifically were they on a hiking trail? In their lodging? Stopping for a quick potty break? Where exactly did she disappear from? What was her demeanor?
Also curious what cult people are talking about? I live four hours away from Big Bend. It is beautiful! When I think of dangers there I think more about wildlife (javelinas and mountain lions) and getting lost without water etc. than border concerns. Just moo.

It would do little good with the one I am referring to. Forgive me; I do not wish to derail this thread until there is more info. From reading a bit more, it seems that there are lots of possible scenarios here and until we know more I will just hold this thought.

The missing poster says she was last seen in Presidio, TX which is a town outside of the state and national parks. So I’m taking this to mean she disappeared from town and not from inside the park on a hiking trail. I just don’t know though.

There is a comment by Margaret’s mom (LM; her full name is on the poster I am attaching below) under the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook post.

She has been posting updates quite regularly on her own FB page. The general impression I am getting right now is that neither LE or the family have a lot of leads.

Per TOS, I am not going into details, but there just doesn’t seem to be a lot of breadcrumbs to work with at the moment.

I would like to know how certain they are that Margaret made it to Big Bend National Park and about the date, Feb. 11. Was she captured on an ATM camera? Is there a record of her passport (if she has one) being processed at the Boquillas Crossing Port of Entry that day?

ETA: Just noticed another comment by Margaret’s mom on BCSO’s FB page. It’s from an hour ago. I hope it was indeed Margaret that was sighted in Presidio on Feb. 19th.

Even still, that's almost a month ago. A fairly cold trail to try and find a lead on. JMO

I'm still wanting to know if this young woman's name/info has been entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System [NamUs].

I managed to find NamUs's search page, but can't figure out how to determine if she's listed with them. The Search page I found (linked below) looks more like a form to fill out in order to report a missing person!

Here's the Search Link in case someone here is willing to try:

I tried the quick search under Dashboard heading. Found nothing for her.

You have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page. Not very user-friendly, IMO:

As far as I can tell, Margaret has not been entered into the system.

In her case, it’s particularly important that they add her ASAP, IMO because she really could be anywhere by now, and thus information needs to be shared with jurisdictions across the country.

It appears Margaret was reported missing out of Maryland. It was initially reported she arrived at BBNP on Feb. 11th and according to friends, she intended to go to SXSW in Austin, as well as Mardi Gras in New Orleans (but it has been almost two weeks since Mardi Gras, and as Mimosa pointed out upthread, tomorrow is the last day of SXSW).

Then yesterday, it was reported she was last seen in Presidio, TX.

I see that in addition to the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office, Austin County (TX) Sheriff is sharing TES’ online post on their Facebook page, so that’s good (it’s about a nine-hour drive from Presidio to Austin County; perhaps they posted the information because Austin County is about an hour away from Huston, and that’s where TES is based). I hope that other agencies will do the same, and soon.

Thanks so much, @zecats and @inmyhumbleopinion, for checking out NamUs.

I'm so disappointed that Margaret's info has not been added to this free, national database which has helped find so many Missing Persons in the past.

I have to assume that her worried family doesn't know about NamUs. (I didn't know about it until I started following cases on WS.)

I would like to know her age, too. I always think of that religious cult in that area when I read about these younger people going missing there on a trip.
What cult? I grew up in Marfa, near Presidio and BBNP. Never heard of any cult down there. I know there is a cult in east Texas, "The Church of Wells" in Wells, TX. I used to go to Presidio and crossed over the border to Ojinaga many times. BBNP is beautiful. No reason to be wary of visiting there. IMO. BBNP is far from Austin and NOLA. Seems kind of far out of the way for her to travel from MD to west TX. to go to Austin and NOLA. MOO

BBNP is adjacent to Big Bend Ranch State Park. BBRSP is in Brewter County and also Presidio County. I wonder if Margaret's mother filed a missing person report with Presidio County LE??

My post about the cult was indeed in reference to the Wells "church" around Austin. The very first post I read about her read into that she was missing from closer to Austin. My mistake. If you read one of my later posts, I pretty much said that it seemed that there were lots of other scenarios and that I would hold that thought until I had more information. I didn't want to derail the thread chasing rabbits.

Quite the truth. Really a round about way to travel from MD to Austin and Nola. If we had more info, maybe it would make sense. If she was with friends, were they with her all the way from MD? Or were they locals, for example? Was this maybe a chance to do some sightseeing (while in Texas - what else can we visit?) We just don't know enough details.

A fund-raising page has been set up to raise money for a PI and travel expenses for the family while they look for her.

Per TOS, I am not going to post the link to the page (it has been shared by Margaret’s mom on her own Facebook page), and I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to talk about what is on the page, either, but since there is so little information available about the case, hopefully, it’s OK to post the following (all from the fund-raising page):

1. Margaret disappeared from Presidio, TX on Feb. 19th;

2. She had lost her phone and wallet;

3. She tried to reach her mom by phone, but the call was cut off;

4. They are looking for her in Southwest Texas and Mexico, as well as other places;

5. She likes to go to coffee co-ops, where she can sit and draw;

6. She also enjoys going to alternative music shows;

7. Her left canine tooth is broken due to a fall from a bike;

There are a couple of pictures of Margaret without make-up posted on the page, and she does look very different than she does in the photos we’ve seen before.
