Jury Selection Begins For Man Accused Of Killing Dallas Mother

Jury selection begins Tuesday in the murder trial for a man who has been accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his children. Faustino Valdez was extradited from Mexico, where he fled after law enforcement officials charged him with murdering 34-year-old Marisol Espinosa.

Authorities don't know exactly how Espinosa was killed because her body was "badly decomposed and partially mummified."

"Her death was by an accident, a horrible accident," said his defense attorney.

Testimony will resume Thursday. If convicted, Valdez faces up to life in prison.

Dallas man sentenced to life in prison for ex-girlfriend's murder

The Dallas man who killed the mother of his children and dumped her body will spend the rest of his life in prison.

It only took about two hours on Friday for jurors to deliberate and bring back both the verdict and the punishment for Faustino Valdez.

Rosemary spoke directly to Valdez before he was taken away.

“Maybe one day I will forgive you, but not today. I thank God for what you got,” she said. “You will never get to see my grandkids because they're mine now.”​

In the hours after she went missing, the couple's daughter texted Valdez asking where she was.

"Daddy did you find mommy and where are you all I see is just a truck it looks like mommy's truck," the child messaged Valdez.

Valdez didn't respond. Instead, he continued to text and call Espinosa for hours — even after the woman's cellphone went dead.

The SIM card to the phone was later found in Valdez's backyard.

"Everything about what this man did was evil, cold-blooded and calculated," argued prosecutor Justin Lord.​
