APD: 'we don't have any strong leads' on case of missing 25-year-old

"Family of Gutierrez is hoping people who live or work in the area will come forward with surveillance footage from the hours of 11 p.m. Sunday night to around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The last surveillance video they say of Gutierrez was from an office on Holly Street just south of the Rainey Street bars, the family said it shows video of him walking east while holding his phone, headed toward I-35."

They probably meant to say to around 3:30 a.m. Monday.

No one else has said anything about him running while he was on the phone so glad you did. I thought I must've missed an important part of the story. Now to see that apparently I didn't, what IS that all about? In what scenario is it NOT alarming to have a missing person possibly inebriated and near water at night near bars to then be seen running and while on the phone no less?? No unidentified 911 hangups that night I'm guessing sooooo....
Yes, that stood out to me right away. Makes one wonder.......

APD: 'we don't have any strong leads' on case of missing 25-year-old

"Mitchell also said he saw new surveillance video Wednesday from a tech company on the opposite end of Rainey Street showing Martin walking east on River Street, toward I-35. The video was taken ten minutes after Martin left the Alibi bar.

He believes his little brother parted from the group of friends to get a ride home, but never made it back. Mitchell added that surveillance footage from the Alibi shows Martin leaving the bar and walking quickly along Rainey Street."

I really think that after a day of not finding the missing men that were last seen near water, LE should just automatically search the water. It seems to be happening more and more, or it has always happened and we weren't aware of the pattern until coming on here at Websleuth's. This year alone- I can't remember ONE missing man that was drinking and walking near water, that was found safe. Anyone else?

"Mitchell believed Martin may have walked to a friend’s home in East Austin. The 30-or-so people who combed the area east of I-35 were asking any resident with a security camera to review their footage from Monday between 1am and 3:30am in hopes to find Martin [...]

Mitchell said his little brother’s last purchase was for a single drink around 11:30 at Lustre Pearl. Mitchell said Austin Police showed him security cameras footage of Martin at Alibi, the bar next door.

“The way (Martin) had exited the bar, kind of like he was in a sprint. He was on his phone."

So unless someone else was purchasing drinks for Martin, his last drink was at 11:30 at the Lustre Pearl. I'm leaning more towards Martin not been seriously inebriated when he left The Alibi.

Photo gallery of missing man Martin Gutierrez
Includes pictures of Martin that I had not seen.

This is turning into such a bizarre case. What did he see that caused him to “walk quickly.” I used to party at the bars in this area when I would visit my Univ of Texas friends during college.

I wonder if who ever it was he called for a ride offered to pick him up in a specific spot that was away from the bar? Maybe he was walking quickly to meet them????

According to the brother, his friend was working and couldn't pick him up. Maybe his friend worked at a bar and he was walking over there to catch a ride? Is this the same friend who lives in East Austin?

I'm surprised no one saw him after he left the Alibi...irony of the bar's name...

Surveillance video reportedly shows missing Austin man behaving strangely before disappearance

A manager at The Alibi on Rainey Street showed [MG] video Friday that showed his brother, 25-year-old Martin Gutierrez, behaving strangely both inside and outside the bar the night he disappeared.

"You try not to suspect foul play or something, but it was odd because my brother went to Lustre Pearl, being OK, to Alibi, zero to 100," [MG] said. "It just makes your mind wonder and think, 'Did somebody mess with my brother?'"

The video, which KVUE has requested but has not yet seen or obtained, reportedly shows Martin sticking to himself inside the bar and, at one point, running outside.

"We had four friends out there with him. But yet he's on his phone the whole time, and he's just kind of alone. Everyone's talking and he's just by himself," [MG] said. "Then, the way he exited the bar running out and all this stuff -- He's making this weird movement, and it's not him. Like I said, he's a bulky kid. It was odd. It wasn't Martin."

This sounds strange. Did someone put something in his drink?

The four friends with him at Alibi, didn’t go after him? How bizarre. Last I had read, friends left the bar and Martin was needing a ride...

That's... weird. I'm curious to know more from his friends. Did they notice he was keeping to himself? Was that out of the ordinary, or was he often like that in a group?

If his last purchase was 11.30 when he bought a drink, maybe someone else bought him one after that and put something in it?

I went to UT in Austin but this area of bars wasn’t developed at that time. My nephew is in school there now and frequents this area. He says that Alibi is about 400 yards from Town Lake and in that 400 yards is a hotel and an apartment complex. So, not “right by” water...

Thanks for the info! I keep hoping the Martin will show up safe and sound but the longer this goes on..................... :(

It's about a ten minute walk from Alibi to Town Lake's hike and bike trail. He was headed in that direction when he left Alibi, then headed east. He could've still gotten to Town Lake after heading east on River/ Holly Street, especially if he then turned south onto East Avenue.

Are you local renarde? Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the lake isn't all that far I guess.
