i am finding it veddy interesting that he commented in public and possibly online that 911 terrorists and suicide/homicide bombers were akin to a soldier throwing himself on a landmine to save his comrades...what has been brewing?? he never married and lived with a brother (according to a neighbor). he complained vocally about persecution...and how wrong the us govt is about middle east

This reminds me of a school shooting. There were all these signs that this guy was going off the deep end and nothing was done about it. Kay Bailey Hutchinson said she was briefed that he shot specific people.

As I posted earlier, he was part of a Homeland Security Task Force last year identifying security priorities. So ironic. Supposedly federal law enforcement was looking at his because of blog postings he had made. You can see one made 5 months ago here:

I'm very much against the death penalty and hope he doesn't face it but that's just my opinion.

The military isn't always the best at dealing with the civilian media. The command staff at Ft Hood were trying their best to get info out to the public while the crisis was on-going. I wouldn't be too hard on them--They deal with flying bullets better than flying questions.

I watched the PC and Cone said at first there was CONFUSION at the hospital. Then when asked so they thought he was a victim at first? He THEN stated NO "so and so" was with him at ALL times!

I personally call BULLS!@#$% about someone being with him at all times!

I totally understand that there was mayhem in the aftermath........confusion and miscommunication.

But, migod, this was the perp!!!

I am pizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzed. We are not stupid, we are not naive, we are tax paying citizens who pay to keep this country running and we deserve the truth.

I just want to sit and cry for all those who were in the line of this maniac's fire, and cry for their families, and for us.

respectfully... in terms of early reporting...

I think a lot of it was based surrepticiously and reported without complete verification due to the ability of reporters to get on base. They were relying on sources and tweets and blogs...phone calls.

The SHEER CHAOS OF 31 PLUS 13 (44) people being shot in one place at one time.. well if that doesn't set you for a loop and spur confusion I don't know what would. Beit an army base, a concert hall, resteraunt, etc...

Sheer Chaos.... bless all those who are plowing thru it tonight!

I used to routinely visit military bases as part of my job and I noticed a big dropoff in security as more soldiers were called to Iraq. At different times they would use civilian security employees instead of soldiers and security seemed a lot more lax.

not sure.. I didn't see the first one.

but most likely in the chaos not much was known at that time.

They are dealing with complete pandamonium at Hood and my hat is OFF to General Cone right now... He was deferring to his aide like there was no tomorrow at the presser toward the end!

There was so much chaos coming from my cousin's friend too... the majority of it I didn't post because it was allllll big-time rumor. She told me the shooter had an "Arab" name before it was out, and I sighed. It was verified. Only then did I join the thread.... it was a HUGE chaos coming from there...

No, I completely AGREE. (I just wanted to know what I had told someone else was right)

I know CSM Grippe (at ft campbell) looked like he was a dog crapping peach seeds when he would have to deal with media!

what would be the trial process for this guy?

If he gets death are there no appeals?

Just wondering if military justice is better than the regular.

There have been no military executions since 1961.

WIKI

Death penalty by the U.S. military was reintroduced by the executive order of President Ronald Reagan in 1984.[2]

On Monday, July 28, 2008, President George W. Bush approved the execution of United States Army Private Ronald A. Gray, who had been convicted in April 1988 of multiple murders and rapes. A month later, Secretary of the Army Pete Geren set the execution date of December 10, 2008 and ordered that Gray be put to death by injection at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana. The military publicly released Gray's execution date on November 20, 2008. On November 26, however, Gray was granted a stay of execution and has not yet been executed as of 2009

yes they do.

And they are all about doing the real work.. making sure everyone is safe on post, etc, that family members who have an affected member are at the hospital and supported with a care team representative (I am care team trained and can share more of that later), that the media and population at large is the last thought. They are thinking of the immediate situation first.

Pressers and all that...they are done because the have to.. they right now are focused on what they need to be and info will be metted out to us as they can find the time to (and trust me their time is already working overtime caring for families)

Hold up... did I not read that he was in the Army for 20 years? Is that true?

My dear husband (veteran) said they are making a big deal about this event, but there are suicides and soldier-related murders every day that don't make the BIG news. If they added up the amounts and compared, they would be shocked.

Thanks for this Nurse.

You are right.

It's all just so insane. I can't help but think about our guys there at this post readying to deploy, and here they are attacked on home base. It is beyond sane reason, and is heartbreaking.

**High five for your husband**

I totally agree with him.

That's what my hubby and I were talking about... He could have ROTC'd into it with less than 20 years... But I thought I read 20 years? hmmmm:waitasec:

He's actually more mad about the coverage versus the insanity of it all. He wants more awareness. He's a different man after a war, and I don't know how to explain it other ways without getting others offended. But, he's a different man...
