Reported earlier...this would have been his first deployment to Iraq.

It's not relevant to paint this guy with a PTSD brush. It's insulting to the soldiers who DO have complications and misery from PTSD. I grieve for the senseless deaths his insanity justified. I'm glad he'll never kill another person. I hope, wherever he ends up, he experiences the full weight of the pain and horror he inflicted.

He doesn't have PTSD, he's never seen combat! If he's painted with anything, he should be painted as pure evil and with a very large brush.

Are you talking about this??

“This is ridiculous,” Naveed Ali Shah, the soldier, told his wife. “I'm in the war zone, not you!”

  • #744
Okay, maybe I'm just way too suspicious...but could someone else please read this article and tell me if anything just jumps out at you.

What the h3ll is really going on here!
A few things were weird to me, for instance:

Investigators said their initial impression was that the gunman had acted alone.

He had been a “very devout” worshiper at the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring, Md., attending prayers at least once a day, often in his Army fatigues, said Faizul Khan, a former imam there. "He never showed any remorse or wish for vengeance on anybody," [the Imam said]...

Good catch! Remorse for what? Hmmm....

  • #746
From what I heard in the presser, they were still looking for more shooters because they felt number of people shot was possible, but still a stretch for two guns.

Yes Sir, and consider the fact that at 2:00pm this afternoon when the shooting occurred...here in the central US it would have been 11:00pm Oct. 4th in Iraq. I think I'm right on that:waitasec:
So he was making a call to the US in the middle of the night???

I guess "often in his Army fatigues" didn't stand out to me because my husband did EVERYTHING in his ACUs lol. Matter of fact he still has ALL OF THEM hanging in our closet "just in case" :eye roll:

AH, the fact that he was calling that "late" its whatever, there were times I got phone calls at 6 in the morning and there were times I got phone calls at 4 in the after noon. Being that he is a journalist, and he has an office in Iraq he has EASY access to things that other soldiers dont always have such as phones, and if he happened to be in his office at that time then its not unlikely.

ETA: If he had internet access in his living quarters he could be using internet phone also!

But don't you think he would have been sleeping? I mean we are talking anywhere from 11:00pm Wednesday night to 8:00am Thursday morning in Iraq.
Just seems very weird to me and the name alone makes me shudder. Sorry, but it does.

I think this all broke out at 2:00pm cst..iraq is (GMT+09:00) So it would have been 11:00PM Thursday evening in Iraq when I got word of this.

I don't know like I said I have gotten phone calls late in the after noon like four or even five oclock.

Not that I am trying to make excusses just stating personal exp.

There were MANY wives on the news throughout the day talking about their husbands texting them, (Yes cell phones can text at normal rates from parts of Iraq and Afghanistan) to make sure everything was ok. and wives were texting and emailing their husband to tell them what was going on. so it wasn't like he was the ONLY person getting an email out of Iraq at this late hour.

Anyways I would love to stay but I have clothes to fold before my husband comes home and wants to go to bed. lol I shouldn't have sat here all day and it would already be done! oops! I'll be back.

No, and the persistent efforts of his family and others to cloud the issue with talk about PTSD and harassment is beyond offensive to me and the marine I've been on the phone with for the last hour. (He spent a year in Fallujah - he knows.)

I have too many family and friends in the military to sit and watch good soldiers blamed or true PTSD suffering ones compared to this man or what he did.

CNN just reported about another acquaintance of his, saying he told them he was upset about being deployed because he would have to fight fellow Muslims. That is what this is about, and ignoring that uncomfortable fact is what got 43 poor soldiers dead and wounded.

ETA: jnTexas - I know you didn't write that or mean to claim it was the case. I'm ranting at all the excuses I've been hearing and seeing all over the place.

You are right I didn't copy and post in defense of him. i know he has not seen any combat. I thought it was interesting the insight of these brave men and women doing tours that are 16 months long then coming home for a few months before being sent back. Also that they are not getting the much needed help when they come back. These brave Americans are suffering, and it shouldn't be that way.

I do believe he did it because he didn't want to be there against other Muslims.

Emotions are running high with so many Ws'ers loved ones being involved in the forces, and with the constant fear of terrorist attacks, and the varied opinions about war in general.

I am appalled that this man was not relieved of his duties when his political/ extreme religious views were so well known to those around him especially since he apparently asked to be excused, so I think blame lies with more than just the perp. Although he is entirely responsible for choosing to kill innocent victims.

According to a doco I recently saw, the army has softened their requirements for enlisting due to low recruit numbers. Even hard-core gang members can now join....They are getting desperate, which could explain why he wasn't not let go.

I see that WS members related to soldiers are highly offended that there are insinuations that they are racist or bigoted...and they are unfair assumptions for posters to make. Those opinions should be respected. But the alternative opinions should also be respected....lets just try to be gentle with each other.
Regarless of our opinions on war, I think we are all terribly upset by todays events.
Truth is, more people have died in combat, and post-combat than in 9/11. It seems sensless to me, but I respect that others feel differently.

PTSD is a HUGE problem and needs to be addressed and treated appropriately. You cannot live in a war state, and then suddenly switch back to a normal life....you just can't.

The perp allegedly suffered alot of hate and bigotry which is unacceptable and I hope it didn't go unpunished. However it does NOT give him the right to murder them and anyone else in his path. If he was so desperate to get out he could have just gone AWOL, so there is more to this than just fear of deployment.

I respect those that put their life on the line to protect their country, and pray that they return to their families in tact physically and emotionally. It would be even better if they weren't sent out in harms way the first place.

I have seen men who are terrified of an upcoming deployment- they want out, and are guilted into staying like they are somehow letting down their country if they don't. This needs to stop.

Another Aussie poster discussed the thwarted terrorrist attack on the Holsworthy base here. These men involved are SCARY. When they walked out of court recently they stated that their arrests would only incite a more extreme approach in future.... And they said this openly to the media!!

The hatred they (terrorists, not musims/islamics) have for westeners is extreme, and I found myself wondering why they are here if they feel that way. The only answer is that they want us living in fear of what they might do.
I refuse to live in fear though, because that means they are succeeding in their agenda.
:praying: Prayers to everyone involved in todays tragedy, and all the others in combat and those who are awaiting the return of their families at war.
JMO

CNN online states H went to get coffee/etc AS USUAL around 6:30a at 7-11. Seven hours later he was killing people. Just the fact that he had the weapons and ammo tells us he pre-planned the attack. Incredible.

Troubling portrait emerges of Fort Hood suspect
His name appears on radical Internet postings. A fellow officer says he fought his deployment to Iraq and argued with soldiers who supported U.S. wars. He required counseling as a medical student because of problems with patients.

But, more recently, federal agents grew suspicious.

At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.

They had not determined for certain whether Hasan is the author of the posting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before the shooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case.
