Arrest made in mysterious death of young artist whose body was found burning in field

“[The defendant] removed the victim from his hotel room, drove the victim to a neighborhood, placed the victim on the side of the road and lit her on fire,” an affidavit alleges.

An initial search warrant for the victim’s cellular phone obtained by local NBC affiliate KXANrevealed police believed at the time that Davis was burned alive.

Cole not being charged in connection with the death itself might suggest that assessment has since been revised. Police are currently being tight-lipped about developments in the case.

“This case is still under investigation,” the Austin Police Department told Law&Crime in an email. “No further information will be available.”

The woman’s official cause of death is pending the results of a toxicology report and autopsy, authorities say.

JFK "died" when he was shot at 12:30pm, but he was still taking agonal breaths when he arrived at the hospital a little less than ten minutes later. He was beyond all hope of recovery and was completely unconscious, but if someone had set him on fire during those ten minutes, the autopsy would have shown he was burned alive.

My hope is that Melissa was in a similar condition when set on fire: technically alive, but beyond hope of recovery and had no awareness and felt no pain.

So I guess he made a plea deal? Melissa died from a drug overdose in the hotel room. Then Cole decides the best thing he can do is remove her from the hotel, dump her body on the side of the road and light Melissa on fire.
