Their blood spatter interpretation is quite interesting. If you look up examples of different types of blood spatter, you will find quite a bit of bright red blood, like on MC's garage floor. Probably because many blood spatter events are arterial.

Also, people keep saying that the blood droplets on his garage floor are in perfect circles. If you look closely, you will see small spines and satellites outside of the main droplet. This is consistent with the blood dropping at an angle between 75-90 degrees at a low velocity.

In my opinion, it looks like a nosebleed.

I had considered nosebleed too but it seems like he would have surely stepped in it at some point on the way to the door. Of course the drops in the pool were stationary, so I could imagine a nosebleed happening there but then heading toward the door would have been made by someone moving which would show in the droplets. I can see him being hit and falling to his knees, and blood start dripping.
I have seen my kids with bloody noses and stand over the sink and the drops look like this.
Perhaps hit in the face and dropped to his hands and knees and started bleeding while perp was over him.
Maybe hid his body close by, on the property.
Took his bike and his phone. Turned the phone off by the water and threw it in.

Just some thoughts, hope his loved ones can find some answers soon.

Another puzzling fact. Why would someone stage a homicide by planting blood evidence and a weapon if they where going to kill themselves? When has that ever happened?

Hi. I just saw Michael's case on "Disappeared" and wanted to join the conversation. I had previously refrained from these threads because cases involving seniors can be too much for me, but decided otherwise after viewing the episode, as I had many thoughts and am very curious what you awesome sleuthers have come up with so far.

Michael seems like an amazing, amazing grandfather, doting husband (I wish I could find a man that great, going to get me mascara, carrying my bags in), and man loved and respected by so many.

Our late great Foxfire, being a retired Fire Captain himself, and passionate for seniors (Russell and Shirley D, etc) would have been all over this.

I have several thoughts and questions but should probably read before posting them. It seems LE (from the episode) and some family members lean towards suicide (and seem to have some information about his personal life which could lend to this theory), however I'm not so sure and tend to lean (at this time) towards foul play, as his daughter does.

As for the blood spatter, well let's just see what you guys say about that. Let's just say I'm not convinced yet.

Would such a religious man end his own life?

I know what it's like to have a broken heart...we all saw what happened with Anthony Bourdain...

I know I'm coming in very late and sorry if any of this is unapplicable, again, I have not been able to read yet.

How do we know someone else wasn't riding the bike to maybe toss his phone? Where is the bike?

Maybe someone other than Mike wanted to stage an abduction?

Why is his drivers license missing?

I'm also interested in the "meth" crimes in the neighborhood mentioned right off the bat in the episode.

My first thought was bloody nose. The drops also look identical to when I badly cut my finger one time.

If he was incapacitated quickly via a blow and caught by surprise, etc, a struggle might not have necessarily taken place.

I'm no blood expert but initially find the vial thing unrealistic...could automotivr coagulation substances/residue on garage floor been mixed with the blood and tainted the results? Upon a quick search something like this? I didn't read it, could be totally unrelated lol.

I guess LE and the experts would know better than me, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen flubs and false positives on Forensic Files, etc. Everything gets based on one test result...

He did say they have additional information that they aren't making public. To me Michaels disappearance could be a murder, a suicide or maybe he just left and planted the blood stains to throw people off. His bike was missing.

Welcome to Websleuths! Most of us are surprised by LE's actions and statements on this case! I'm so glad the family also has PI's working to help find out what happened to MC. I'm also very curious to know what (private) information HCSO has, and if this information is just hearsay from BC and the SIL. I want to know if HCSO shared this "information" with Klein. If they have, why doesn't Klein believe this was a suicide? I'm having a hard time believing anything HCSO says because of the way they've handled this investigation from the beginning. I think they let their relationship with this couple hinder the way they were supposed to do their job. This family is better off having someone from the outside look in on what happened. I just hope it's not too late since much of the evidence is destroyed.

I finally got to watch Disappeared. There are so many contradictions. BC really lucked out here. There was so much they left out regarding her affairs and then some. Also, they said they had no reason to believe the one boyfriend was lying, but they didn't say they confirmed his alibi and they didn't say he took a polygraph. I wonder if it's true that most of the family believe he took his own life? Are Suzy and her husband the only ones left who believe this was foul play? Ugh... This is so depressing.

I finally watched the Disappeared episode all the way. I had to just pay $2.99 for it so I could get the whole thing but that allowed me to pause, transcribe and make notes.
I did a little looking this morning on maps to familiarize myself with the house they lived in out of Emory or Point. It is on FM 2324. If you look at that it goes right into the lake near the dam at the deepest part of the lake. I'm not sure if they owned it or rented while they lived there. But I believe it may be a rental now because while it appears to have been owned by the same person or family for quite some time, many people are listed as "living" there. Anyway it is shown as the location of a guide business acc to the FB page which may no longer be active, hard to tell. True shot outfitters
Anyway, I have a theory or some I have been thinking of today I will just throw out for contemplation.
Maybe MC took some cash from the box in the garage and went to see the owner about a rental arrangement, either for himself or BC. I can imagine him not bothering with looking up a number and thinking it is easier to just go by there. We have thought the situation was heating up during the 3 wk recuperation and with her gone it was time to take steps.
Or maybe he was called by someone to go there, perhaps not to the home but to one nearby. He may have never made it back to his home. This investigation has been frustrating to witness as the sheriff constantly speculates that he is with his phone.
Or maybe one of her boyfriends lives near there and he was tailing her. We tend to think he was a better person than that and would be above that kind of thing but people do that, especially if it had escalated to an empending divorce and he thought he may be able to protect his assets. Perhaps there was a confrontation there.

SM said the one boyfriend they uncovered had an alibi that checked out. Regarding BC polygraph he didn't mention what we saw earlier that she couldn't take the first one because she was too upset and then the 2nd one they had to note that she was on anti-anxiety medication. They note that when people take a polygraph because it can affect results. I also noted that SM admitted that he did not believe it at first that she had to admit to having a boyfriend. That just shows his bias and the reason he should not be involved in the investigation. But their polygraphs were one reason the discounted Dunn because he was fingering BC and SM had cleared her. Again, blinders.

So many contradictions. We have debated whether they had GPS or pings to go by and how the speed was determined. Statements which stood out to me today were regarding the cellphone expert who it said was hired "Oct 2017". "By analyzing data from the phone's transmission with nearby cell towers, the expert was able to reconstruct MC whereabouts far more accurately than by tracing pings". I think they are referring to tower dumps compared to the limited 911 technology HCSO has to find people using pings. Sad it took so many months to even do that. Later they said, "The cell phone expert used location and time of pings to determine speed". No GPS, basically ping and tower data. SM said he went on across the bridge which is near where they used to live but he did not say they determined he went to that property, I don't think it was possible to know exactly with pings. It was just more speculation but that notion helped SM run with the suicide theory.
One other thing there that was contradictory was the time. At 2:30 he went back there, phone expert determined he traveled at 4.2 mph, and it "took 2, or 3 hours", and his phone went off at 5:50. So we already know his home is over 17 miles to the bridge. Now we find he went on past that a few miles. So at least he went 20 miles at 4.2 mph and it only took 3 hours. SM isn't good at stating facts, they never add up.
