TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) The ex-boyfriend of a Temple woman who was found dead earlier this week in Oklahoma along with a male friend has a history of crisscrossing the country and marrying women, some at the same time.

C M, 44, who calls himself “Spiderman” when in the MMA cage, has been all over the country during his adult life, records show.

He reportedly married G M in 2002 and is still listed as legally married.

But in 2009 another woman, K M emerged in Oregon.

She married Marks in Illinois, but filed for divorce when, she told a judge in Oregon’s Circuit Court, she discovered that Marks had been married to another woman for four years at the same time.

Marks had been a polygamist for years, records show.

At the same time, Marks had a baby with April Pease in Washington state.

After several tumultuous and violent years, records show, Pease told a Judge in a Kitsap County, Wash., courtroom, "I am very afraid of Marks and have every indication if he discovers where I am he will come here and kill or seriously harm me."

Just a few months later, after a bitter child custody dispute with Marks, Pease disappeared in Bloomington, Minn., never to be seen again.

In his early years Marks got in trouble in California and Oklahoma, records show.

According to Tulsa, Okla., district court records, he was found guilty of attempted robbery with a gun.

In 2017, Marks' mixed martial arts career ended and he started teaching it in Killeen.

He met Jenna Scott [2015] and after a rough two years, she asked a judge for protection saying, "Marks threatens and hurts me and told me he had gotten away with murder before,” records show.

But 264th District Court Judge Paul LePak in Bell County denied her request for a protective order in September.

Scott and her close friend Michael Swearingin were last heard from on Jan. 4.

Their bodies were found Tuesday in rural Oklahoma.

Marks was arrested in Michigan just a couple days of later with another girlfriend.

He’s held on a Temple burglary warrant stemming from a break-in at Scott’s home.

TEMPLE, Texas — C M, the man at the center of crimes in Temple and across the country, has a past that includes prison time for robbery, along with weapons charges, harassment and burglary.

Marks, 44, was thrust into Central Texas headlines in the days following the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend Jenna Scott and her friend Michael Swearingin. The two were last seen Jan. 4. Their bodies were found in the small town of Clearview, Oklahoma, south of Tulsa, Jan. 15.

Marks, who was once a trainer at Title Boxing in Killeen, was not named as a suspect in their deaths as of Jan. 18 but he remained in a Kent County, Michigan jail awaiting extradition to Temple for allegedly breaking into Scott's home on Aug. 21.
[...]
Marks has a direct connection to Clearview, Oklahoma, where the bodies of Scott and Swearingin were found. His cousin,
S N, told Channel 6 Marks' father grew up in the small town of about 60 and and that his family hosts reunions there.
[...]
A Municipal Court of Seattle report from 2008 said Marks faced three charges: Phone harassment, harassment and first-degree criminal trespassing.

The Washington state court amended his phone harassment charge, found him guilty of harassment and dismissed the criminal trespassing charge with prejudice on Nov. 21, 2008.

According to court documents, in 2009 Marks had a bitter custody battle over his son with a woman named April Pease, who is from Washington state.

The Washington court documents depicted Pease as a woman with severe drug addiction problems, which affected the parenting and safety of her children.

The documents described Marks as someone with aggressive behavior and who was in "complete denial that he has issues around domestic violence."

Pease was given temporary custody and was staying in a women's shelter in Minnesota. She went missing in March 2009, and her son went back into Marks' custody.

Bloomington, Minnesota police confirmed the investigation into Pease's disappearance never closed and that Marks was a person of interest.

Channel 6 first learned of Marks' connection to Scott and Swearingin when we reported on Jan. 6 that Scott had filed a protective order against Marks on July 27, 2018.

Scott described abuse and her fear of Marks.

"I believe he is a pathological liar. I believe he is a psychopath," Scott said in a document filed with the Bell County court.

She said her former boyfriend told her about killing pets when he was a child in Oklahoma. She said Marks explained how he covered up the killings and "he could do the same in Texas," the affidavit said. Scott said Marks threatened to hurt her and her family.

It was less than a month later when Marks allegedly broke into Scott's home.

The arrest affidavit filed on Nov. 14, 2018, said Scott went to the Temple Police Department on Aug. 21 to file the police report.

Scott said she and Marks had open investigations for assault pending against each other in Killeen, according to the affidavit.

Scott told police Marks threatened her while her daughter, who was 9-years-old at the time, was in the house.

“You know what I’m capable of. Your entire family and all of your friends will need witness protection if you call the police,” Marks told Scott, according to the affidavit. Marks also said to Scott that she needed to drop the charges against him.

Bell County 264th District Judge Paul LePac dismissed the protective order in September.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Maya Maxwell, the woman charged in connection to the disappearance of a Temple pair, was booked into Bell County Jail at about 10:46 p.m. Tuesday, according to the jail website.

Muskegon County, Michigan Sheriff's Office authorities confirmed that Maxwell was picked up from the jail Tuesday morning to be extradited to Texas.

Maxwell was arrested Jan. 11 in Muskegon County after she admitted to being involved in moving Swearingin's car to Austin.

An official at the Muskegon County jail could not say which Texas authority took Maxwell into custody.

Bell County authorities could not say when Maxwell would be back because of security concerns.

Maxwell is charged with a 3rd-degree felony offense of tampering with physical evidence.

As of Jan. 29, neither Marks or Maxwell had been named as suspects in the killings of Scott and Swearingin. Temple police have said they are investigating their deaths as a homicide. [bbm]

On Tuesday, hundreds of miles away, investigators combed the property on E 1140 Road, about five miles east of State Highway 27, for a second day as part of a homicide investigation. Much of the focus on a thicket of trees about 100 yards away from the road; crime scene technicians had set up a blue tent, evidence bags were seen sitting on the ground.

"We have two subjects, at this time, yes that we’ve recovered," said Okfuskee County Undersheriff R.L. Wilbourn. "We had some information, and we started looking for a certain area, we were able to find it with help from other agencies." [bbm]
