The decedent was recognized from the reconstruction by her mother after she saw it in 2022. It fully served its purpose, and did so very well. The anthropology work was all correct too (Hispanic teenaged female, probable homicide victim). The only incorrect forensic analysis here was the post-mortem interval of 3 months estimated vs 1 month in reality, but that is very close IMO.

The fact that investigators refused to follow up on her mother’s concerns (or make the very obvious potential comparison on their own in the interceding previous year) was the problem at play and entirely unrelated.

From the article linked above:
"...[L]aw enforcement officers investigating Kristen’s disappearance told Cory (Kristen's mom) they did not believe Jane Doe was her daughter. Yet they also did not test the DNA of the remains."

INCREDIBLY frustrating... This could have been solved years ago. It wasn't like Kristen being the Jane Doe was a stretch- She went missing from less than an hour away, and the Jane Doe's race and approximate age matched.
Also, I can't tell if Kristen's trafficker was in jail when she went missing for the second time? The article says her testimony helped convict him, but I'm having trouble fully putting together the timeline. IMO he could still be involved in her murder regardless, but it would be nice to know.
