We head into the bedroom but no evidence is taken from there. Heading back outside and down the stairs, the camera travels to the bamboo forest and captures the bike tucked in the brush. The video ends. No further questions from state. Defense takes over.

Bullet trajectory is confusing, especially the two facial / head wounds. Right temple to left jaw means a downward trajectory, as if MW was sitting down and facing the perp. Entry wound to chest with exit wound in the back and projectile embedded in tile also corroborates MW facing assailant.

Also, two right head wounds to MW, right temple and right face might indicate perp was holding gun in the left hand and likely left-handed.

A right handed perp would be more likely to hold weapon in right hand and inflict injuries to the left side of the face and temple region.
I've wondered if the second head shot (temple to jaw) occurred as Mo was falling down. Or she walked over to her after she fell and fired that one.

My impression is that MW was found lying on her back, not slumped over onto her left side.

Right. I meant that perhaps the second shot was as Mo was falling. Or perhaps she was on her side and was shot the second time in that position, and perhaps KA rolled her onto her back because Mo was still alive and then fired the last shot to her chest?

Defense asks about confirmation bias and asks Price about his history as a patrol officer. Asks if any information that he had taken in from other officers might have helped build his opinion on the case. Discussing Price's conversation with Landlord Harris. Harris was helpful, but didn't have information about anything that was going on. Defense questions out loud how Harris could not have heard the gunshots? That was surprising to Price. Defense asks why Price didn't look for evidence inside Harris' home. Price is not aware if anyone followed up with the Harris family.

During redirect, State asks if there was any reason to go into Harris' home? No, Price responds. Says Landlord Harris was calm, helpful, non-evasive, unaware of what happened in the other apartment.

Yes, I recall the comment about the whoosh as well. And if KA rode it 50-100' down the alley, in a way that'd be like her last dig at Mo. Taking her bike and RIDING it, then tossing it.
Then going home and aggressively ‘riding’ CS.

The Wilson family just returned to the courtroom. They were not here during that graphic CSS footage.

The location of the bike is being discussed and there are references to it being found in a "bamboo forest". I lived for quite a few years probably 6 blocks south of the general area where MW's murder took place. Many of us had groves of invasive running bamboo along our back fences. It's incredibly hard to eradicate and the growth pattern is quite dense at times. So think of bamboo "grove" rather than "forest" or "brush".

Is there any reference to how far away MW's bike was found from Cash's upstairs apartment? A bike that expensive ($10,000 to $13,000) would be very light, I'd guess between 16 to 18 pounds. It crossed my mind that KA, very fit, in a rage and hugely pumped up on adrenaline, could have picked up the bike and flung it into the bamboo from the upstairs porch. The could explain why there were no bike tracks through the grass.

The bike had to have been upstairs, inside the apartment. No sane person in Austin leaves a valuable bike outside unattended, even if locked.
Yeah, that bike would only have been trashed by someone in a fit of jealous rage. Anyone else would have sold it if they got their hands on it.

Price says he did not engage in confirmation bias and it would not be helpful to engage in confirmation bias.Defense questioning again: Wonders aloud why police didn't search Landlord Harris house? Especially if he is helpful and courteous, why not search him? Price says he did his due diligence and didn't find a need to do so.

GRAPHIC: We are now seeing closeups of the blood on the floor. Closeup of Mo's shoes and blood stains. In the courtroom, Armstrong stares straight ahead, unflinching. It is silent in the courtroom. Jurors are paying close attention to their screens. We are now looking at wounds and abrasions on the body and close ups of projectile. There is a closeup of Mo Wilson's bloodied face. It is blurred. A close up of her dress pulled up past her waist. More closeups of shell casings.

This is twice I have seen references to her dress being pulled up past her waist, and the wording concerns me. It seems as if it is thought that perhaps it was intentionally pulled up rather than just ended up above her waist somehow, when she fell down. Could KA have intended to inflict even more damage than she did? Did something cause her to make her getaway before she perhaps intended? This is bothering me, a lot. Am I the only one? Am I reading too much into this? JMO

I wonder if height difference would account for the first one—either KA being significantly taller or MW crouching a bit to protect herself. 3rd once she was down, facing up.

Yep, also wonder ab left-handedness.

This is awful to write.

Yes, very disturbing to think of the reasons why.

Glad witnesses are standing firm w/their response(s)... and not giving in to defenses' ridiculous questioning. moo

I have been waiting for defense to point fingers at the landlord.

They have pretty much nothing else to work with that doesn’t implicate their own client, so they have to contrive something.

I imagine MO opened the door to a knock, screamed, then continued backing up, possibly even trying to reason with KA. I can also imagine the look on KA's face. Stone-cold, resolute. The injuries to Mo's head/face suggest to me that she never turned away, perhaps she felt KA was upping her threat level, brandishing the gun, but maybe had a split second before she realized KA was deadly serious.

Did the neighbor ring pick up the third shot? I wonder if the door was never closed...

Still, in my mind's eye, I can picture KA forcefully advancing on Mo, Mo backstepping until she ran out of runway, and KA exacting the crime for which she'd come and for which she'd prepared.

KA is evil.

Perhaps KA attempted to stage a sexual assault and robbery / murder.

KAITLIN ARMSTRONG AFTERNOON THREAD:

Today we heard from a homicide detective & crime scene analysts. The courtroom was shown graphic photos of the crime scene. Mo Wilson's competitive bicycle was brought out for the jury to see. Live tweets continue below.

Next witness: Sgt. Timothy Price, Austin Police Department. Officer at APD for 14 years. At the time of the murder, he was on-call as a homicide detective. Price is going through his process of investigating the crime scene upon arrival.

Price and team decided they should check the bike for possible fingerprints. That was conducted at the scene. Upon entering apartment, he saw Wilson's body on the bathroom floor. Noticed the spent shell casings on the floor. The apartment was clean, otherwise.

Sgt. describing the body: Her face and hair were covered in blood. Appeared she had entry wounds in the face, but there was too much blood to tell by looking. She was clutching a black hat in her hand and she had sandals on and a summer dress.

Medical examiner process, per Sgt: ME was the only one to touch the body or manipulate its positioning. Price oversaw the process. If the ME sees something, they point it out to an officer and/or crime scene specialist. ME noticed smaller injuries on the body: right index finger and on one of her legs. There were also defects on her ear and chin.

During exam, ME located a projectile in Wilson's hair. That was turned over to Crime Scene Specialist Ferrara. Investigators noticed defect in front of dress, bra and chest. Once moved, exit wound was found on Wilson's back. Projectile was discovered in floor tile.

Price tries to make contact with the landlord of the apartment. This landlord, David Harris, lives in a separate house in front of the property. Harris gave permission for officers to search his property for evidence. Nothing was found on his property.

ME provided new information from autopsy: Gunshot wound right side of Wilson's face, exit left jaw. Another entry near right temple and exit chin. Another GSW chest and out the back. Two abrasions: one on index finger, another on knee.

New search warrant filed on a Gmail address. Price wrote it out. We are about to view crime scene video.

VIDEO: Begins outside near alley. Shot by a Crime Scene Supervisor (CSS). There is no audio. CSS holds up his watch to show it is 5/12/22 at 12:59am. The CSS walks down the alley toward the apartment. There is crime scene tape surrounding the perimeter. CSS climbs the stairs leading to apartment.

GRAPHIC: CSS shows the door, no signs of forced entry. There is open luggage on the floor, electronics on the couch. A laptop and two phones. One of the phones is plugged in. From the fridge, you can see Wilson's body sprawled on the floor. Closeups of shell casings in kitchen.

^Really good point and I hope the jury picks up on it. Motive could not be a bike robbery.

I think this is just how the reporters are describing what they are seeing as the pictures and video are shown in the courtroom. It does sound ominous, though.

Agree, after looking at the google street view, it wouldn't work for her to have thrown the bike off the porch into the bamboo.
Unless it was pitched into the other bramble.
