Not the OP, but if you search the Travis County Property Appraiser office, 2 homes are listed in her name.

Account Search

ETA: checking on another site it has one home last sold in 2021, and the other one last sold in 1998?
Yes. The one reported as last sold in 1998 raised my eyebrows as well. Perhaps a website/database error? We would need more info about that transaction to know.

Good sleuthing!

I looked on the website and if I read it correctly, KA bought one home in May of 2021 and the other in April of 2021.

ETA The website that I looked at was the Travis County Appraisal District

How does someone even manage to do that, based on her reported income?

Can you handle a surf board? Because I predict the waves are gonna be intense.

MOO
Snipped for focus

My surf board riding skills stink - especially when riding ugly waves the defense ship creates! I know every defendant deserves to be properly defended, but sometimes it’s just so hard to watch them fight the evidence in the courtroom when you feel the evidence strongly points to guilt. I know this is their job and it’s in the constitution, but I have a hard time separating my feelings out. And this is why I would never even get close to qualifying as an attorney - even if I did have the brains and dedication for law school.

A few questions:

If CS was trying to end the relationship with KA, why would he buy her a gun and give her $450k (even if it were for her to invest, I don’t know why he would give it to her if he was already thinking of ending things)?

With regard to the 450k, how much did KA have access to at the time of the murder? How much had she spent prior (either on herself or on their business)? If there wasn’t a contact involved, would CS even have any legal claim to that money?

How much money did KA have access to that wasn’t money she received from CS?

These new developments are raising more questions than they are providing answers.
Maybe he was buying her out of the biz?

My guess is that CS asked for his invested funds back from KA after the murder, not before. If that is the case, it wouldn't be evidence that he was attempting to separate from KA. JMO.
I’m trying to picture this conversation. Was it like this? “Hey Kaitlin, I know that was you that shot Mo… So that was a really sh*tty thing for you to do. Sorry I put you in that position. Now, about that money I lent to you.”

I like my version better. Lol

How is this evidence of an attempt by CS to separate from KA? "Here's $450K now get out of my life" then anticipate seeing her at home for dinner that night & seeing her last on May 13? I guess that's called keeping your friends close, but you're enemies closer (so to speak)?

And once again we only have words of CS to rely on.... so.... I'm not holding my breath. Unless LE has proof.

Here’s a little tidbit of interesting information I don't think I've seen posted here: Judge Brenda Kennedy of the 403rd District Court is retiring on December 31, 2022. I believe Judge Brandy Mueller is running unopposed for that seat. Just curious if/how that might factor into the strategy of either the prosecution or defense in planning their case, and also how the court might view the request for a speedy trial - would it be better to clear the docket or leave the case for the new judge to handle?

Something is so strange to me about those days after the murder - still living under the same roof. What was that like? I know everyone is different, and CS could have been in complete shock. Nobody wants to believe or accept that their partner could do such a thing, but I think I would have wanted to sleep elsewhere - especially after APD came to question her and they executed the search warrant and took her phones. Did he go and look at the gun immediately? So many curious questions.

He’s in deep doo-doo if he actually offered her $450k after the murder. He’d have some ’splaining to do.

Interesting that this article says that the search warrant included a home that KA owned but a different home than the one she shared with CS. If KA had renters in that home that she owned, why would they want to search it? Outbuildings she had access to? Other reason?

I don't get it, either. Esp as I thought you needed a down payment unless you were VA or getting first time buyer perks, etc.

But what if you were turning homes into rentals, so the rental income would cover the mortgage? That'd be more like a business mortgage loan... Banks don't care if you have enough in rent payments to cover potential repairs... just that you have enough to pay the mortgage, insurance, taxes and PMI, I would think. But one would still think a bank would want you as landlord to have income in case the tenant defaults so you have income to cover the mortgage in the absence of a lease payment. Or maybe the don't care?

This is all definitely a mystery. And I'm thinking that perhaps she didn't list these as assets on that form because they're not able to be liquified immediately if she has tenants. You can't evict a tenant without a lot of notice and maybe they have leases of a year or more. So aside from the fact that the housing values may have dropped, she doesn't have access to any equity for a long time to pay a lawyer, assuming there's any equity in any of them. Either way, I would still think they would have had to be listed on that form in some manner even if the value is now negative.

On the Travis County Appraisal website, they include a graph on each property that is searched that shows the value history of the property. On one of the properties that KA purchased, it looks like the valuation is currently around $500,000, but the graph indicates that in May of 2021 the value of the property was around $350,000. So even with property values beginning to go down now after the big increase over the last two years, it still may have a value higher than what she paid for it.

Was wondering the same!

Thanks for that! So if she's renting that one out, she may not be able to sell it immediately because of a lease obligation, so maybe she can't bank on that value remaining the same until May 2023 (assuming that's when the lease may expire).
