The police cars came without warning.

Some were lined with bullet holes. Others rolled in on their hubs with sparks flying. Each carried at least one officer, some with multiple critical injuries.

For the emergency medicine team at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, the scene Thursday night was difficult to absorb, even for those used to working on combat frontlines.

Representatives from Parkland Hospital, the public hospital also caring for injured police officers, declined to comment.

But their clinicians may face an additional emotional burden, said Robert Suter, a doctor of osteopathic medicine who often serves on-call duty there. He was not on duty the night of the shooting.

He notes that many officers serve at the county facility, and often have close relationships with staff.

"We see a lot of these guys on a regular basis,” Suter said. “They are part of the extended family, so this is doubly devastating.”

Since only the negative seems to hit the spot light lately:

Yesterday, because of the Dallas shooting, Snoop Dog and The Game led a peaceful, PRODUCTIVE March to the LAPD extending friendship and dialogue. They arrived during a police academy graduation which Snoop pointed out was good because these young guys are the ones coming into the hood. They're afraid of the people and the people afraid if them. They met with the Mayor and police chief. This could be the start of something beautiful.

I think #Blacklivesmatter should take a look at #hateusnottonight.
They are not angry. They want to effect change through peaceful dialogue to benefit both officers and citizens. Because as they pointed out Everyone wants to make it home to their lived ones at night.

I needed to see this. This gives me hope.

Ninja, thank you for sharing this. Max does an excellent job in reminding us that LEO are people, too. The feel, they hurt, they get angry, they get scared, they love , they care, etc. The biggest difference is they have to process all of these emotions while they deal with ours.

[h=2]Micah Xavier Johnson was killed by an explosive device attached to a robot after talks broke down. He was laughing and singing and not at all anxious during the standoff, a source said.[/h]
Told police he had been planning and working on his plot for a while

That is so spine tingling scary. Almost sounds like the joker from Batman.

I've been researching prolific serial/spree/mass killers and sexual predators for about a decade, and in virtually every case since the 1980s, meth is the common denominator, involved either directly or indirectly. Meth creates psychopathic personalities, imo.. As in this case, domestic terrorist MJ, lacked fear, possessed a total deficit of empathy, and a complete disregard for others while carrying out his deviant acts. We will likely find that he had been tweeking on meth for days prior to the brazen kamakaze like attack, imo.

Japanese Kamikaze pilots were given high doses of methamphetamine before carrying out their suicide missions during WWII.

Vanderbilt University researchers found that psychopaths are wired differently. They crave rewards, no matter the cost.

Thanks a lot for the links Everyday Grace.
This was apparently at the 7-11. There were some reporters there after a lot of the protesters had left.
Some got on and some stayed to hurl insults at officers. One officer later told me “I tried to tell them that we were there to protect them and the guy said, ‘Protect us hell! You guys are the targets tonight!’” and started laughing

Many words have been (and will be) written about Dallas Police Chief David Brown.

This feature article from the DMN covers some of the same ground many have already read from national media outlets.

This article is able to capture what national media cannot fully communicate: David Brown, native son of Dallas, Texas.

For Brown, being "a third-generation Dallasite" is a matter of pride. He was the first Dallas native to become chief in nearly four decades.

He grew up in South Oak Cliff, a largely black, low-income neighborhood where he saw crime explode amid the crack cocaine epidemic. He heard complaints about racist police practices and and knew they went back generations.

He has always been driven. At South Oak Cliff High School, he was voted most intellectual and most likely to succeed.

In 1983, Brown, sporting an Afro, joined the police department. He wanted to fight crime in his neighborhood, and was excited when he was assigned to patrol the area.

"I grew up in a hot spot and wanted to do something about it, not just complain about it," Brown said last year.

As an African-American cop, Brown sees himself as both black and blue, not one or the other. Improving relations between police and the community has been a cornerstone of his tenure. He holds regular Chief on the Beat events to meet people and sends his officers out for Coffee With Cops throughout the city. He's talked about the need for police departments to show that the police care about community concerns.

Why would he settle for less victims? He didn't really think he'd survive to carry out his larger attack?

My guess it seem like a too great of an opportunity for him to pass.

I have been thinking. I do not want to convey I think less of any person and I understand the sentiment behind all of the "matters" movements but why can't we find a "matters" hashtag that is all encompassing and fight for it. Would it not make people pay attention? I guess that inner Pollyanna is coming through again so before anyone says anything, please know I am saying this with a compassionate heart that really wants everyone to feel heard, cared about and ultimately to feel and be safe.

Wow. He is doing so many great things. Coffee with a cop!

But why do some of his officers want him gone? To me, he is doing the right things. Even getting rid of bad apples!
