Treatment and management plan doesn't mean "cured." Cured means you no longer need treatment or medicine.
Treated is only so good if somebody takes their medication. Which you could never guarantee if you decide to release someone who committed a crime back into society.
That's assuming anything treatable is found to begin with.

It is unfair when the fines are figured in. People with fewer financial resources can't afford the fine and do jail time instead (which also leads to a loss of income so that's another layer of punishment), or if they can afford to pay the fine they lose a larger percentage of their income. And as for having their guns confiscated maybe they should be reimbursed the value of the weapons so as not to be punished twice again.
I wish we would move towards income based fines like Finland.

People can recover from some mental illnesses, and go on to live productive lives. Keep in mind that 46% of people will have a diagnosable mental illness in their lifetime. Most of them are treated successfully.

You are responsible if your car is stolen. If somebody steals your car and causes a wreck, your liability insurance will have to pay for the damage. If gun owners can't accept responsibility for their guns, then they shouldn't have them. If the gun is stolen, then it was not secure.

100 percent this, KaaBoom!!

It's complicated. Most people who commit these type of crimes, do so because of mental illnesses. In some cases mental illness can be cured. In others it can been treated. People have committed serious crimes when they were young. Then served their time and went on to live productive lives.

if one looks at all of this as illiness as oppossed to bad or good maybe society might some provgress

bad or good does nothing to help the problem

if an apple is bad there is no discussion about it it is tossed into the bad pile and forgotten moo

in fl it is like no fault ones own insurance pays damage to insured car! no liability

The majority common law rule among the 50 states is that the owner of a stolen vehicle will not be held liable for damages when the vehicle is stolen and theninvolved in an accident that causes injury or property damage. This is because the vehicle was taken without the consent of the owner, who did not cause the accident.Under the “permissive use doctrine”, an owner is liable for personal injury or property damage resulting from negligence in the operation of a vehicle by any personusing the vehicle with the permission of the owner. Liability is dependent on the express or implied permission of the owner. Since the owner of a stolen vehicle hasclearly not given permission for their vehicle to be used, they are generally not responsible for the actions of the thief.

after each of these intially (especially politicians) carry on and on how awesome LE was in each incident

In reality, what happens is a year later mosst
cases a report comes out clearly indicating most of the time it was a mess.

dump stuff radios not working etc etc

showing up should not be the hallmark -- putting out the fire should be imo

You are liable for damages, if your car is stollen. That is what insurance is for. It's on your policy.

What do I do if my car is stolen?

Contact the police immediately and file a stolen vehicle report. Most insurance companies cannot process a claim for vehicle theft unless you first file a police report.

Report the theft to your insurance company. Even if you do not have comprehensive insurance, which covers vehicle thefts, you should still notify your carrier of any stolen vehicles immediately. Notifying your insurance carrier of the vehicle theft could help protect you if the thief causes damage to others with your car. When you contact your insurance company, try to have as many of the following items available as possible:

The reason you notify insurance as soon as possible is so you are not liable if somebody who steals your car does damage with it.

"Typically, you won’t be held liable for your car after it’s been stolen. If the thief gets in a wreck, for example, that damage won’t be attributed to your car insurance policy."

Unless you were negligent and that's why car got stolen.
"However, many states have laws in place that penalize you for negligence that led to the theft. You can be ticketed if you’re caught leaving your car unlocked, leaving it running or leaving keys inside the car. Worse yet, it’s possible to have claims filed against you if your car was stolen due to your negligence and the thief caused damage while driving your car. In cases such as this, the insurance company will pay our liability claims up to your limits, and you can expect to see higher car insurance rates in the future."

BBM, And people really think that an armed teacher could take him out when a swat team exchanged fire with him for quite some time?

Thankfully, like much else in Washington i think it was just an explosion of hot air!!!

It is fiscally un doable thankfully

rules regs insurance training etc etc would take years to implement

in some small town places they may try it and the minute a student graps some teachers and kills peoples and lawsuits start it will be faded out

thankfully

Isn't that how drug laws work in this country? Or any crime for that matter? If a person has money, they can get away with ALMOST anything. Poor people don't get a break.

yes, it seems to be unfortunately true.

You bring up a very good point and I can share the following:

I doubt this guy, will call him B. for now, would have shot up our high school, but he was expelled for illegal drug possession. Had to finish his education via boot camp. He was a fellow student in my class (same graduation year), and there were about 300 in my class, so despite the size, we all knew each other by name and face. Naturally it was not talked about a whole lot among us students because we knew better.

So expulsion could very well be a factor.

I attended both public and private schools. Problematic kids weren't dealt with at public school they'd get threatened to behave until they actually broke a law then sent to juvie, in the meantime terrorized half the school. Classes were larger and hader for teachers to know what was going on. Private school 5 students per class, teachers knew everyone personally. Less problems. Problematic students dealt with swiftly.
Here's my theory: Public schools are way too large, too many kids per class, private smaller intimate settings, smaller personal classes 5-15 per class instead.
If schools were smaller in size it would also be easier to set up security check points one-two security officers would be able to access threats better.

My thoughts... I work in a school and have discussed school shooting with my teacher friends. I have said that parents who leave guns accessible to their minor children should be liable for any crimes committed with those guns....I think the parents should have some legal culpability... The response of the teachers I know has been horror. They own guns and don't lock them up because their kids would never....

We do need to make gun owners liable for the damage inflicted by their unsecured firearms.

When did legal culpability disappear?

So apparently the shooter was rejected and the girl that rejected him was one of the victims.
Are females supposed to 'accept' any male that puts himself forward? Should they be murdered if they don't?

Just thinking of the incels incident in Toronto.

Guys....get your s**t together!! What the heck is wrong with you?? You aren't entitled to sex with anyone you want.

Toxic masculinity and rape culture. I hate to use those terms but that's what's driving the incels self-entitlement.

Do they do actual time or is it like Louisiana where 40 will get you out in 20? I still think 57 is too young for him to be released. I like to believe people can learn and grow, but in a situation like this, I don't think so. I don't think he should re-emerge to test it out. Too risky. A bar fight type thing that one person gets killed, maybe. Walking into a school and choosing those you want to die while screaming wahoo? Nah.

Exactly! Accidental manslaughter vs premediated calculated massacre of his classmates. One is a horrific drunken accident, the other is psychopathic.

I disagree with you but I have the view that punishment should include a chance to become a better person. I don't think that vengeance does anything for society. He should be punished, severely but released when he is no longer a threat.

He fooled his family and friends they didn't perceive him as a threat until Friday. Until it was too late.
