Authorities search for woman who fell into Lake Travis from party barge

VOLENTE BEACH, Texas — Multiple agencies searched for a woman who fell into Lake Travis in Volente Saturday night, according to authorities.

Austin-Travis County EMS reported that they were responding along with Lake Travis Firefighters and STAR Flight to search for a 26-year-old woman who fell off the top deck a rented party barge around 7 p.m.

The agencies searched for approximately 30 minutes before switching from rescue to recovery mode.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is the lead agency in the search. They launched recovery efforts from Emerald Point Marina before stopping for the night.

Recovery efforts will continue in the morning.

This is a developing story. We will update when we receive more information.

Lake travis is very deep, somewhere over 200'. There's numerous trees , deep dropoffs, and rocks all over the place. It can be hazardous to rescue teams. We've also had some incredibly hot days recently, (more expected 100s incoming), that I bet complicates rescue efforts.

I fish there pretty regularly and drownings aren't uncommon - especially when drinking and crowds pickup in the summer months.

It's likely an accidental drowning than death by other means then dropped off the boat. Bodies that drown will sink much further. I'm sorry for her family, and hope this young lady did not suffer.

I don't know much about bodies in water, but I was under the assumption that after a little while the gases will cause the body to resurface. Such a long time has gone by. Let's hope for closure.

There is an article from October 10th that says they found her body.

Do you have a link? I googled it but all I can find are articles stating that a body was found, may be Kathleen, but not yet identified. TIA

From the article above, which is dated 10/10/18:
Officials said Scott's body was located around 10:30 a.m. by a diving crew working to find her between Starnes Island and Volente Beach. She was found beneath the water at a depth of about 117 feet near the area where she was last seen.

The sheriff's office said that (this event) was the largest depth anyone has ever been recovered from Lake Travis and could be the longest time between when a person was reported and missing and when they were recovered.

I am relieved for the family that they were able to recover her body. It is small comfort though in light of this tragedy.
