Update: Remains of three-year-old found in west Laredo apartment

Two parents are facing multiple charges related to the investigation surrounding the death of their three-year-old -daughter.

Parents+arrested2.jpg

32-year-old Gerardo Zavala Loredo and 37-year-old Monica Dominguez

Laredo Police arrested the mother, 37-year-old Monica Dominguez and father, 32-year-old Gerardo Zavala Loredo for allegedly covering up the death of their daughter, Rebecca Zavala.
...
When authorities arrived at the scene, they began securing the area and requested assistance from the Laredo Fire Department HAZMAT Unit.

When authorities searched the home, they found a bucket with human remains hidden inside one of the bedroom closets.

According to officers, the mother stated that the child allegedly drowned while she was under no adult supervision.

Both Monica Dominguez and Gerardo Zavala allegedly attempted to dispose of the body by putting it inside a container full of acid.

So far both of the parents have been charged with evidence tampering, endangering a child and abuse of a corpse.

The couple had a total of five kids including the victim, all of the other four children have been turned over to Child Protective Services.

Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing.

Monday, March 4th:
*MTR Arraignment Hearing (@ 8:30am CT) – TX – Rebecka Zavala (3) (Feb. 14, 2019, Laredo; found in a bucket of acid in a closet) – only for *Monica Yvonne Dominguez (37) arrested & charged (2/14/19) with abusing a human corpse, evidence tampering & 2 counts of child endangerment (for allegedly leaving Rebecka to bathe alone leading to her drowning). $175K bond.
4 other children (1 to 11 yrs old) in care of CPS. Dominguez has a long history of arrests, including multiple arrests on aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon & injury to a child with the intent to cause bodily injury. Of her 17 prior arrests listed since 1999, five of them were related to accusations of injuring a child. The most recent arrest took place last February, when she spent nine days in jail. Dominguez was released a year to the day before Laredo police officials announced her arrest in connection with Rebecka’s death. Webb County court records show Dominguez was serving 10 years of probation at the time of the toddler’s death, after pleading guilty to injury to a child with the intent to cause bodily injury in 2016. Limited online case records indicate her 2018 arrest was related to the enforcement of her probation in the 2016 case. Dominguez’s probation was revoked Friday (2/14/19). Was on probation for 2 counts of 3rd degree injury child/intent bodily harm.
Hearing on 3/4 for revocation of probation on this case.

Mother accused of dumping child’s remains in acid appears in court

Monica Yvonne Dominguez said in court she never violated the terms of her probation from a 2016 conviction of injury to a child.

Dominguez was sentenced to 10 years probation and 500 hours of community service and she relinquished her parental rights.

The mother also requested a bond, but Judge Oscar Hale denied her request.

The next hearing is scheduled for April 24th.

Mother of 2-year-old found in bucket of acid sentenced to 10 years in prisonSo she was already on probation for breaking 6 bones in her 9 month old son less than 5 years ago. That resulted in probation only, which blows my mind, and they were still allowed to keep multiple other very young children. This is just as much a travesty of our criminal justice system as anything else. When people prove they are incapable of functioning as law-abiding citizens, harming small children, the judges handling these cases have an obligation to deal with them appropriately. Ten years probation and continued access to small children isn’t even remotely appropriate IMO. This little girl never should’ve been with these two criminals.

I really don't believe that poor baby died while in the bath. With the state the remains are in I'm guessing it will be hard to prove otherwise, unless one of the other children witnessed anything. Poor baby.
