The mother was in the store when this happened at 7:30am today - so the car was left running?

I have no idea.
However, it is doubtful that this mom will ever leave her child in the car alone again, sleeping or not.

At least the thief/thieves had enough sense to leave the car and the child in a place where they would be quickly found.

We needed a happy ending it's been a rough few months for missing kids this is awesome. And I am going to say a quiet thank you to the thieves for not panicking as some might have done when the Amber alert went out and left the kid in the car where he could be found. Not on a street corner or worse (cos it does happen.)
