Search for missing man leads police to home where animals are living in squalor

The search for Ruben Sanchez enters day three. The 41-year-old father and husband was reported missing on Monday.

“It’s devastating it’s something that you can’t explain there are no words,” said Sanchez’s wife, Rubi Tamez.

Sanchez’s disappearance led South Houston police investigators and volunteers with Texas EquuSearch to his home where they discovered hundreds of animals in poor condition, according to Tim Miller, the founder of Texas Equusearch.

“There are birds. There are turtles. There are cats. There are dogs. There are ducks. There are chickens,” Miller said.

South Houston police helped remove the animals, who were picked up by a local shelter. The Houston SPCA was also called.

South Houston police Detective Armando Valdez said the condition of the homemade it tough to search for evidence and described it as a hoarder type situation.

“It’s hard to move, a lot of old furniture, trash, a lot of animals, it’s really cluttered,” he said.

Sanchez’s wife said Ruben struggles with mental health issues and was reported missing from his South Houston home on Monday.

“He’s out there. He could be hurt and injured I know he’s in pain. I know he needs his medication,” Tamez said.

Sanchez is described as being about 5′11 and 180 pounds he was last seen wearing a tan shirt and blue basketball shorts.

“No idea what happened to Ruben. He didn’t have his wallet, his phone, didn’t have anything, according to his wife. He just left on his own,” Miller said.
