Can we all Now admit this young woman killed herself and not assign blame to 60% of America?

I listened again last night to that portion of the tape. His exact words were that he wanted her out of the car so he could give her the ticket and explain what was going on.
He did later say/mumble that he was in the middle of the street....which wasn't true.

How is that not true? He was in the middle of the street. He was standing right alongside moving traffic.

OT but I hope I never have to meet QE II because I would panic about what to do. Probably fall on my face in a failed curtsy.

I believe the primary rule is you don't speak to her unless and until she speaks to you. I'm sure she's used to meeting Americans who don't know the protocol.

The middle of the street to me would be the center of the road. SB was pulled over to the curb.IMO

Traffic was pretty far away from where he was standing. SB was pulled over to the curb with one large lane between BE and traffic.
The previous driver stayed in her car to get her ticket/warning.

I have no idea what the traffic is on that road. If the officers only reason for asking Sandra to exit the car was to sign the ticket/warning then he was wrong. JMO

Hello? Am I invisible?

Next person to post something that is not directly related to this case gets a vacation from Websleuths

Oh, so it is her civil right to keep her ciggie lit at all times? LOL that is just silly. Was she saying NO because she was concerned with protecting the rights of others to never have to put theirs out, even if asked politely?

I don't think the issue was the right to smoke, but the right to be free from arbitrary orders. I live in California, but here, at least, our driver's manual says nothing about a driver being required to put out a cigarette during a routine stop.

Kimlynn, I love your posts but I wouldn't wipe my hiney with anything BE said.

I like two-ply.

Thanks and I agree. Big time fibber. IMO
The best one was he tried to calm her down. How could that be when he was trying to pull her out of her car and "light her up"
She was probably scared and maybe that's why she was resisting leaving the safety of her car. IMO

Is it an order if a cop says 'PLease, would you mind putting out your cig?' Is that an ORDER?

Apparently, since her refusal caused him to drag her from her car.

I believe Ms. Bland's point was not so much about smoking per se, but about LE making up rules and orders on the fly.

Not in cop speak. There is no way he would be pulling over a car to give a ticket in the middle of the street. He was correct when he said that HE was standing in the middle of moving traffic. The car was by the curb but he was on the OUTSIDE DRIVERS SIDE, right alongside fast moving traffic. Calling him a liar for saying that is unfair, imo.

I think the evidence shows that Sandra committed suicide. I don't think that someone else is to blame for own her actions. JMO

He didn't say he was in the middle of moving traffic. He said he was in the middle of the street. No matter to me what he said other than his first response was that he wanted her out of the car to giver her a ticket and explain what was going on.
A poster asked and I answered. That is what he said.IMO

I think all students at police academies need to be informed that they don't automatically merit respect because they wear a badge. They EARN respect by their behavior when dealing with the public. That isn't to say they can't be firm; I understand that a firm and direct tone helps to deflate dangerous situations. But there's a difference between speaking firmly and being randomly abusive.

And, no, I have never had a bad experience with a police officer, not even in the deep South. I have always been approached respectfully and have responded in kind. But then I'm a white male.

Is there a basement thread for Sandra? If not, can we make one ? I mean for the conspiracy angle or are we allowed to discuss that up top ? TIA

(I have not read all the posts here or posted at all on this thread, but just wanted to mention fwiw re: the smoking discussion that on the show COPS, in both the older and newer episodes I've seen, it seems I have observed many instances where the policeman asks the person to put out their cigarette; also, if the person asks if they can please smoke a cigarette, say before they go to jail, the cops always says no, from what I've seen, jmo.)

He said he was in the middle of the street which means he is in moving traffic. So that is why he responded on radio that he wanted to get her out and explain what was going on because he wanted to get out of the street. It is his right to do so.

SBBM

Yes because, unlike family and friends, jail and prison intake staff routinely receive specialized training in mental health.

Well, they failed.

And it would be equally wonderful if students in high school and universities were taught that cops don't automatically merit DISRESPECT because they wear a badge.
