TX - Shanna, 36, & Diederik Vandewege, 3 mos, slain, Fort Worth, 15 Dec 2016 *GUILTY*

  • #661
Sort of like Mark Hacking, who was leading a bogus life (told everyone he was accepted into med school and was even preparing to move across the country to supposedly attend school). When family members, including his pregnant wife Lori, discovered his lies and confronted him, he murdered his wife while she was sleeping. In this case, I think CV was leading a secret life. Did Shanna uncover it? Maybe she found something on his computer and confronted him about it, and then he killed her in her sleep? Then killed little Diederik, too, because he didn't want to be "burdened" with a baby?

I wonder too.

- Shanna gave birth to Diederik in September 2016, so she must have gotten pregnant in January 2016 (if he was not born prematurely or late).

- Shanna moved to Texas in May 2016, five months after Craig relocated there, according to Shanna's dad.

- So, Craig must have moved to Texas in January 2016 - around the same time Shanna got pregnant.

Like others here, I'm also curious regarding the three miscarriages Shanna reportedly suffered when she and Craig were still living in Colorado.
I meant to add that I had wondered if Mark Hacking secretly wasn't including Lori and a baby in his plans to move across country to supposedly attend med school, since Lori was bound to discover his lies eventually. I think one parallel in these cases is as yllek and jiminy have suggested -- that CV also didn't intend for Shanna to join him nor to support an addition to the family, As already suggested, CV had likely resumed a footloose bachelor lifestyle after his move and wasn't willing to put an end to it. Very narcissistic people. They see other people as expendable who don't fit into their plans. JMO

All good points, yllek.

One thing: I'd look more at a December 2015 conception date for a baby born September 5 than a January 2016 one.

(My daughter has a late-October birthday, and she was conceived in January, so the dates struck me as slightly off.)

Thanks Bees, you're right.

If she did not deliver early, Shanna would have gotten pregnant in December for a Sept 5th delivery (and we don't have confirmation as to exactly when CV relocated).

I'm just curious, like @jimini -- the timing appears to be such that it's possible CV relocated before Shanna and/or CV knew she was pregnant.

There is a babies r us registry showing a due date of 9/9/16.

Which would take us to the beginning of December '15 for conception. Maybe 3-6 weeks to confirms she was pregnant. That fits right in. Urgh.

Every pregnancy is different, but with my oldest, I knew I was pregnant before I ever missed a period. It was like my body did a complete flip-flop that first week! With my youngest, when I went to the doc he asked me how far along I was. I said eight or nine weeks. When he examined me, he said no, 11 or 12 weeks.
It could be that Shanna didn't tell Craig until after he went to work in Tex. She might have thought she didn't want him to worry while he was in the first few weeks of a new job.

Right? If I had previous miscarriages, I'm not sure I would be sharing the news right away, because... expectation management.

If I had an ounce of suspicion that my husband could have been the cause of my previous miscarriages? there is no way in hell I'd share that news.

then her LMP was 11-28-12-4 making conception early Dec. (my son is 9/28 but due 10/10 and LMP was 1/1)

So the one pregnancy she doesn't miscarry, her husband wasn't living with her?

Wow. That's a coincidence.

Craig Vandewege is no longer listed as an inmate in Garfield County, CO.
http://www.garcosheriff.com/PDFs/current_inmates.pdf

Nothing turned up when I searched the Tarrant County, TX inmate database, so I wonder if he's currently being transferred. https://ijis.tarrantcounty.com/inmatesearch/

In any case, his first court appearance on the murder charges remains scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 12 at 9:00 a.m. in Texas. https://egov.tarrantcounty.com/web/...iminaldocket_WAR_criminaldocket_action=docket

I'm not counting on it, but hope we learn some new details during Thursday's hearing.

His excuse for killing his family should be a doozy! Maggotymouthed heathen.

It really irks me that after he killed them, he had "a tire repaired for his wife" and "purchased a set of diamond ear rings for his wife while he was at work and a ladder to hang wedding pictures on the stairwell of his home." (quotes from affidavit linked below) I bet he was never a doting husband during any other day of their marriage. I'm disgusted.

MOO and all the trimmings.

What were the empty gas cans for?

What were the empty gas cans for?

We haven't heard his explanation for those yet.

I think Craig Vandewege was planning to fill up the gas cans in his trunk before he left Colorado because he didn't want to be slowed down or caught on gas station surveillance cam (same as Jodi Arias).

In my opinion, he knew LE was on to him and he was planning on disappearing for good, before LE could arrest him for murdering his wife and son (same as Scott Peterson).

Based on his words, actions, and the contents of his vehicle....seems clear that he's a flight risk. It won't be surprising if he's denied bond at tomorrow's hearing.

He seems like the kind of guy that might try to fake his own death. I could certainly imagine him shooting the car full of bullet holes and setting it on fire to make it look like he was dead. I know that sounds crazy, but people like him think they can get away with anything.

Tarrant County docket search shows that CV's court appearance tomorrow has been pushed back from 9am to 2pm ET.

The time change to 2 is correct however it's more likely to be 2pm CST; also the attorneys of record are now listed.

Thank you for correcting my time zone error, kdg! :blushing:

The hearing tomorrow will go down at 2pm CT, 3pm ET, and 12 noon PT.

The attorneys were listed last week -- based on their bios and experience, they seem like very good ones for both the prosecution and the defense.
