I'm glad that this is resolving quickly for everyone. SS just needs to heal and look forward to the rest of her life.

Hopefully this piece of scum never sees the light of day again.

Whoa!!!! Something in this article I had never known before to keep in mind for so many other cases that all of us follow in my opinion. From your link.

"He was charged with federal kidnapping because authorities said he used Google maps on his cellphone to get to the hotel. "

I'm going to do a screenshot of that and Carry It Forward on many other cases because I never knew that using Google Maps qualified as a federal case, is that new to other people am I just behind in learning this?

Is this just for child kidnapping, or for an adult case also? Does anyone know?

It seems like Federal cases are closed very quickly and it doesn't put the cost of the court case on local authorities? I'm thinking about two other cases this could apply to right now and I'm going to revisit.

thud.....but of course his motive.
Poor little girl. Thank goodness she's alive!

How does one ever recover from that? How does her family ever recover from that?

The brazenness of this monster. I wonder if his DNA will produce a match to any other cases.

Man Accused of Kidnapping Fort Worth Girl Opts Not to Plead Guilty
more info here:
Man changes mind about pleading guilty to Fort Worth girl’s kidnapping, hearing delayed

He did not plead Guilty. I am wondering if more charges were presented that would make him opt out of the guilty plea. He was facing 20 to life.

He was charged federally because he used his cellphone and the internet to get directions to the hotel and traveled on Interstate 35 and I-20 to reach the hotel — a means or facility of interstate or foreign commerce used to further the commission of the kidnapping by transporting or concealing the girl.

I think this is for adults as well, and MAY be how the Feds were able to prosecute Brendt Christensen for Yingying’s kidnapping and murder (truthfully, I’m not exactly sure how they were able to do this). In this case it also puts the death penalty on the table in a state that does not have the death penalty. It’s a secret weapon the feds have, for sure.

I was so hoping he would plead guilty and save SS and her family the trauma of a trial. Selfish monster.

THROW AWAY THE KEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Use of the internet or phone systems equates to interstate "wire" systems and if involved in a crime, that's how the Feds can get involved.

It is interesting and really makes many crimes federally prosecutable. Take a look at subsections (A) (1) and (G):
18 U.S. Code § 1201 - Kidnapping

I do believe there's a federal transportation of a minor for sexual purposes charge that doesn't need to involve interstate commerce or transport, however

And it allows for the death penalty in any state they prosecute a murder in. The DP sometimes makes them more willing to negotiate and give up additional info.

Yup.
Would they have this young child testify in open court? I know the accused has the right to face their accuser but is something in place that she wouldn't need to see him? Surely there must be.

I know in Canada, there are times when sexual assault victims testify electronically, and yet "live" from another room within the courthouse. That way they do not have to see the accused. Joshua Boyle's ex wife, (Caitlyn), was testifying via this matter just recently.

MOO, he's holding out,for a sweet deal, knows how traumatic it would be for the child.

Oh. I wish I could say what I think....
