Wise County Sheriff's Office

On April 9, 2019, about 1:17 p.m., an approximate 5'3" white female weighing approximately 80 pounds and ranging in age from 15 to 25 with shoulder-length black hair appeared on video surveillance cameras in the Indian Trails Subdivision, located between Decatur and Bridgeport, Texas approximately 1/2 mile from US Hwy 380. She was dressed in 3/4 length black leggings, tennis shoes, an athletic-type top, carrying a backpack and a large satchel-type purse or bag.

The female approached a residence and left a message on a security system voicemail asking for help. Video surveillance in the area shows the female look around as though someone was following her. The female remained in the area until something appeared to attract her attention when she immediately turned and ran toward a heavily wooded area.

The entire neighborhood has been canvassed and no one saw her or recognized her. There are no reports of runaways or similar incidences in the surrounding area. Local school districts have been contacted and advised that no one matching the description was absent from school during the time in question.

If you recognize this female or have information concerning her, please contact the Wise County Sheriff's Office at 940-627-5971.

Wow, this is within my local news area and I have not heard anything about it. Sounds similar to another incident in Texas late last year with a woman ringing a doorbell and banging on the door in a panic then disappearing.

I don't know about anyone else, but creepy that there is someone hiding in the woods by their homes. Hoping she comes back out as people arrive home or are outside and gets whatever help she needs. Too bad they didn't publish the video so someone could possibly recognize her via her mannerisms.

This is scary. I also wish they released the video as there might be clues to what she is carrying, how she walks, etc. that someone might recognize. I'm worried about her!

Sorry to be always the skeptic, but I would fear some attempted home invasion scam. Accomplice waiting at bay or something?

But if an accomplice was waiting, would she have turned and seen something and took off like she was scared? Idk. Something is definitely off.

She made have been scared if she was being forced to participate.

Deputies Looking for Woman Who Left Cryptic Message
[...]

'She' is a young woman who walked up to a neighbor's call box in the middle of the afternoon and left this message: "I'm really scared, please open your gate, please!"

Surveillance cameras show a small, thin girl looking around before suddenly running off into the woods. Sheriff's deputies have searched but found no sign of her.

[...]

"We still are concerned for her safety," Johnson said. "We do want to find her and we do want to talk to her and we still are trying to follow up on the leads that come in."

Deputies hope someone may recognize the woman's image or her voice to end the mystery and assure she's safe.

Wise Co. Sheriff's Office Looking For Woman Who Appeared To Be In Need Of Help
[...]

Initially, the woman appeared to be between 12 and 14 years old.

"The images from a video there at the gate were a bit grainy," says Wise Co. Sheriff Lane Akin. "But it was a small woman. We also have an audio recording and the voice sounds young."

However, one witness said the woman is actually a bit older.

"One of the motorists recalled having seen a young woman dressed apparently the same, carrying a backpack, at about the same time on the same day," says Sheriff Akin, "and that motorist said is appeared as though the young woman was about 25."

[...]

"I knocked on every door out there and haven't found anyone who is aware of a missing person or is aware of such a description of any of the neighbors," says Sheriff Akin.

but why would she burden herself with a backpack and another bag/purse during the commission of a crime
that seems more like someone trying to escape her situation or someone who ran away from home and then ran into trouble (being followed by a predator)

she sounds and looks like a young woman to me, not a young girl
so I'm gonna agree with the early 20's estimate
I also believe, although thin, she weighs more than 80 lbs.

I agree. Someone who packs a backpack and a satchel/large purse is not on their way somewhere to rob someone and planning to make their getaway on foot. She is fleeing from somebody/something and afraid of being found. MOO

Not trying to make a case or promote a theory, just threw another possibility out there. I, as a homeowner, would have been leary about opening the door. If I was trying to promote a theory, I would answer your question by saying "to play the part" so someone would open the door. I for one, hope that she was not someone in deep trouble AND was not someone fronting a home invasion. I hope she was someone who temporarily was frightened by a perceived threat and that she is okay somewhere.

Mystery woman seen asking for help in Wise County found 'safe and well'
A woman seen on surveillance video asking for help outside of a Wise County home has been found "safe and well" and identified, authorities said Friday.

The woman, 36, called the Wise County sheriff's department dispatch line about 11 a.m. Friday, saying she was the person seen and heard on the video, according to a new release from the sheriff's department.

Investigators traveled to the Dallas-Fort Worth area and met with the woman, confirming she was the same person on the video.

Authorities are not yet releasing her name, and more information about the case hasn't been released.
