TX TX - Terri 'Missy' Bevers, 45, killed in church/suspect in SWAT gear, Midlothian, 18 Apr 2016 #49

  • #861
I vague remember a big sports event at the weekend in 2016, when MB returned from there and BM started his bucket list-journey. Was it in Houston?? Does anybody know, which people Missy met at the event (special ones, I mean) and whom she could have told about her job as a Gladiator Camp trainer and her routine like working-out at a church and so on? Has a companion ever been asked by police?

This one baffles me.

If the church did not have cameras and the perp's odd 'walkabout' was not recorded, would that change anything wrt potential suspects?

Cannot recall if the actual murder was caught by cctv, but if not, any chance the swat character was a decoy for the actual killer in the room with TB?
speculation, imo.

Who knows, whether one perp left the hallway into a door and the other "twin" perp (very similar in body height, but with slightly different clothing, esp. trousers/shoes*) appeared through the next door - and that may have occurred 2-3 times perhaps. This assumes IMO, that the rooms behind the hallway doors are connected among each other or it is one room only like the Sanctuary. Imagine: On CCTV there is only one perp seen each time, but there are two of them, who take turns in a sophisticated way. - Is it completely impossible? Idk, honestly. (If one of them being drunk -as I always assumed- would have been able for that task, I also don't know.)

* Years ago I saw pics, allegedly from the surveillance camera, which showed little differences re the trousers and the shoes. It stayed in my mind until today. I didn't save a single one.

''A birthday tip drive is happening on Thursday, Aug. 7, at Kimmel Park from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., where anyone can drive up to give any tips on the case or support Bevers’ friends and family.

Volunteers will be passing out flyers and bracelets, and giving case updates as they work to keep Bevers’ memory alive and the unsolved case in the public eye.'

''Wednesday’s event also serves as a way to gather any potential new leads. Volunteers will be on site to distribute updated case information and remind people how they can submit tips to law enforcement.''

A very nice idea, maybe helpful! 😌

I’ve read most of the threads and apologies if I missed if this was discussed (we need an AI summary feature!), but was it normal/well known for Missy to arrive that much earlier than attendees for the workouts? If I were running these classes, I can see arriving at like 4:45 (setup can’t take that long?)…but 4:15 seems really early (correct me if wrong on any of this).

If she was known to arrive super early, I think that helps build a case for crime of passion. Perp knew they would have enough time.

If she wasn’t known for this, it makes premeditated seem a lot less likely to me.

Just a fast peek for info and found this bit from an early unedited transcript, fwiw.
'UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It was well known that Bevers taught an early morning fitness cramp at Creekside Church of Christ.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The suspect broke into the church before Bevers arrived and roamed the church`s hallways, then assaulted her.'

This case is so frustrating because you can go back and forth on it ALL DAY.

This is a great point. The perp would run the risk of being identified and this is possible motivation.

Would it really be worth killing a woman over though, to be reported for effing about in a church at 430am? At this point, that's all the person was doing before they murdered Missy.

Would Missy have had the presence of mind to see a vehicle on the other side of the church and jot down its information?

Lets say she did jot the vehicle info down before entering the church. We, the inquirers, know the CCTV cameras were not working in the outdoor and parking lot area, but would the perp have any way of knowing that?

For every point, there is a reasonable counterpoint. This case is really, really frustrating.
If not premeditated, I’ve always viewed this as a situation where someone was super embarrassed that they were caught cosplaying a SWAT team member in a church, and they literally committed murder due to this extreme cringe factor.

Following this line of reasoning, this likely was the first time they’d done this (there are no previous or subsequent reports of similar events).

They might be neurodivergent and were fixated on playing out this cringe SWAT fantasy. They saw this beautiful woman and felt immediate shame and everything after this is a reaction to that.

The fact they were driving a “nice but reasonable” vehicle sort of backs this up a bit in my mind. I can totally envision some slightly awkward white collar loner guy dressing as a SWAT team member and just bumble around the church randomly breaking windows.

Incidentally, this is why I doubt he (and I think it was a guy in this scenario) won’t get caught. Exact mix of random perp and bad LE luck.

Edit: In above hypothetical, think there’s only 50/50 chance perp is still among the living.

Thanks! My comment was focusing a bit more on her especially early arrival time (as I understood it) to this early class.

re-posts 2016 rbbm.
"Her husband had told her to be prepared. You know he had worried about something like that, that early in the morning," said Tucker.
Mark Garcia, who worked out with Bevers regularly at a nearby gym, said that in recent weeks, the 45-year-old didn't seem like herself.
"She seemed a little ... a little more reserved." said Garcia. "I don't think she was at the wrong place at the wrong time. I feel like someone was after her."

2016
''Nothing had been stolen from the church, Chief Smith said, so detectives are uncertain whether Bevers interrupted a burglary or might have been targeted after posting the time and location of the workout on her Facebook page.

"It certainly is a strange occurrence for a church to be burglarized this time of morning," Smith said. "It certainly looks like... it's just an odd, random situation."

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed; Randy Bevers and his wife were officially cleared.>

I think (like a lot of families), there was tension and bad relationships, but I’ve never gotten vibes that the family was involved.

Another thing (imo) - the perp looks way too relaxed and nonchalant for someone who knows they are minutes away from committing a very up close and brutal murder.

I get that their outfit sort of masked (pun intended?) what they might have been experiencing. But their casual gait, like they’re grocery shopping, is notable (and I get the various physiological theories regarding their walking style).

At the time I didn't think so, but now wonder if more than one person was in the church. One to "casually" walk around just making sure everything is clear and the other to lay in wait, off camera, by the door.

This is an interesting theory which I’m doubtful about since there would be no reason for SWAT person to break windows/make a lot of noise if they were just making sure everything was clear.

The literal breaking of glass and otherwise making avoidable noise/bringing attention to self is also why I tend to think this was just a really embarrassed big dude who was mortified that this attractive woman caught him in 4D doing a modern equivalent of the early internet Star Wars light saber meme.

The breaking of windows also kinda of hinders the element of surprise you’d think a premeditated murderer would want.

Or, was making a lame attempt to stage a break in or vandalism.

FWIW, I don't think the killer(s) was an experienced criminal.

Along the same train of thought as “not experienced criminal”, I do think (in my embarrassed cosplayer scenario) another reason this case is seemingly so cold is this guy probably didn’t/doesn’t have a lot of friends.

If he’s awkward/shy/introverted…he might literally be the only person on earth who has a single shred of info on this case. Worst case for LE is he just goes home around 430 and just sort of pretends like it never happened.
