In situations like this, people want to help. The easiest way to do so is to write a check. Flowers are so expensive, they want to do something that will help more than a floral spray. So you let them. [shrug]
Right ! I don't think it's necessarily ' asking for money'. It's more saying ' if you are so inclined to send a ' gift' , a monetary gift would be so much more helpful than an expensive bouquet of flowers that will be forgotten about at the funeral home or have to be given away or even watered to take care of ''. I'm speculating but I can recall many a service where family is literally begging people to take home bouquets with them because they don't want them to be thrown out.
