Of course, this is a burglary. Someone broke into the building. But if the only "staging" involves open doors and broken glass, there was an intended purpose behind it.

This post made me go and look up the definition of burglary. I've lived nearly 40 years and did not know burglary was not necessarily always synonymous with theft. The more you know!

I saw a picture of double doors on outside with plywood covering. I was thinking maybe the doors on the outside of the set that propped open.

The doors you are thinking of are in the back and how the perp entered and are different from the doors in the video. Compare these doors to my previous picture and the video and you'll see they're metal doors (that may have a glass window) versus being glass doors and in the video there are glass windows next to the doors rather than a wall:

I apologize for not reading every single page. But I wanted to say that someone in my family has a gait like the person in the video. He has never had an injury, he just has unusual turnout--duck feet. He kind of kicks his foot out in front like that. It didn't stop him from running track in high school.

Agreed. And AmandaSkis speculated that he may be "singing" to authorities in case one of the guns is linked to MB murder, which is an astute observation MOO

Well how many tools and weapons did the killer bring?

You would need to push a shopping cart around for all the things he brought to a b&e of a church.

Possibly some gear is missing which he was in charge of? Maybe he knows the murderer he gave the gear to? Maybe he took it?

Possibly. But why would an actual COP want to look precisely like a COP when he's committing a horrific crime?

Unfortunately, it's something you learn with rascally teenagers. They think it's okay to "hang out" in an abandoned building, when in reality, it's burglary.

Possibly this "bad cop" sold it to a friend instead of properly retiring or destroying it? Nothing like a murder to make you squeal on your more innocent misdeeds.

An actor will place a pebble in their shoe if they want to remember to limp in the style of the character they're playing. Perhaps it's organic, perhaps the person is a good actor.

Pretty smart actually. A killer "dressed as a cop" was the headline everywhere. It didn't say "a cop wearing his uniform" JMO

Possibly they were onto this "bad cop", who was in charge of evidence and equipment and broke some laws. If this case revealed some missing police equipment, LE agencies could have cut the investigation short to arrest and give a plea for evidence on where that equipment went.

The was a police officer who posted here earlier that although ill-fitting, thought that much of the gear was legitimate.

i don't think there has been any intentional coyness. It seemed potentially relevant considering the different agencies involved and possible LE involvement mentioned many many times. Personally, I find we all are here to "sleuth" and since no one had mentioned this corrupt LE who lived in Midlothian and was an active LEO in county at the time of his crime, and key info is just today being released I thought I would throw it out there. I agree this thread has been a challenge to follow Again, the link to today's story is http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2016/04/26/former-ellis-county-lieutenant-accused-of-stealing-guns/

In the Haleigh Cummings case, her father, Ron Cummings was charged with Burglary with Battery for reaching inside a van and assaulting one of the occupants. Strange term, but it doesn't mean what most think.

LE doesn't say this for no reason: Just FYI for those who are new to the thread.

I think their reason is just what is stated. "There’s a lot of speculation based on the gait and appearance that this person may be a woman,” and the investigators don’t want to discount that possibility. They wouldn’t be doing their jobs if they did. So they released the statement. I think thats all it means.

And isn't it a good way to fake a physical trait? Keyser Soze anyone?

Me too, me too! I had no idea. I love it when I learn something new! Thank you :)

These are reasonable questions, I suppose, but people are acting like some big bombshell relating to THIS case has been dropped. (Usually without elaborating.)

(Sorry, this is just a remarkably challenging thread to follow, lots of hints and coyness without actual info. I understand some of it (can't sleuths non POIs) but the hinting around can be exhausting for casual readers.

edit: also lots of people using weird color fonts in this case for some reason. Just so you know, they don't show up on my Tapatalk color scheme.

Thank you! I've followed this case from the beginning and the coy comments are driving me nuts! This has been mentioned at least once by the mods. Please, people, if you have a point to make just spit it out. Some of us don't catch on as quickly!

Nah. I think they are strongly leaning towards it being a woman. (or a very feminine man :D )

I know you're still catching up, but what do you make of LE saying today that Missy was targeted and this wasn't a burglary gone wrong scenario?

She had a key and she did not worship there, her church was Cowboy Church, not too far from the church where she was found....

I wonder if it wouldn't be a card entry system. She would be given a keycard authorizing her to enter the building probably between 4AM to 6AM.

Are many convinced this was a botched robbery? I don't think so. I have been reading all day and finally had to skip ahead to post a thought that I had. In thread #2, someone here had posted how they noticed how methodically the killer was sweeping the outer rooms, on the side of the building that was opened and where Missy would soon be parked. Others have posted about how the breaking of glass was a random staging of a burglary. I don't know if anyone posted this idea in the past 30 pages I jumped, but I think the killer was intentionally opening every unlocked door, intentionally breaking every window of the "unlocked" doors. The killer even gave up on the doors he/she couldn't pry open. The killer knew if he/she couldn't pry it open, Missy wasn't getting in there either. I think the killer was planning in case Missy escaped him/her. If the killer opened every single unlocked door, the killer would know which room Missy was hiding in. The killer also broke the glass on every window to make certain Missy couldn't lock the door behind her. Very sinister and seems it's straight out of a horror movie. There was no way she was getting away from this monster. This person was not looking for items to steal and was carefully planning in case things went awry. IMO.

It's an intriguing theory, but it raises a few questions, still. First, do we know that he actually did break every door window of the unlocked rooms? We are only privy to about 2-minutes of videotaped surveillance.

Secondly, why would he bother fussing with the pry tool at all on interior doors? If Missy were running to hide from him, she wouldn't stop to try to pry open a locked closet door with her fingernails--she'd make for an exit, more than one which was already pried or broken open. Either that or, if desperate enough, break through an exterior window (like our perp seems to have done).

Gah this theory is going to give me nightmares. Probably the most accurate of all posted so far, too. Terrifying.
