  • Beard, 49, was booked into the Travis County Jail at around 5:18 a.m. on a third degree felony charge of assault on a family/household member impeding breath circulation, according to inmate records from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
  • The Austin Police spokesperson described it as a “hot shot” call, which means the incident is in progress and poses a threat to a person or property.
  • The University of Texas told CBS News that they are "aware" of Beard's situation. "We are continuing to gather information and monitoring the legal process," the school said in a statement.
  • Beard's attorney, Perry Minton, told the Austin American-Statesman at 10:30 a.m., "Coach Beard is 100% innocent of these charges. He should never have been arrested. The complainant wants him released immediately and all charges dismissed. It is truly inconceivable."
  • Beard, 49, is in his second year coaching the Texas men's basketball team. [Snip]...Beard spent five seasons at Texas Tech...[snip]. Beard, who has also coached at Fort Scott Community College, Seminole State College, McMurry University, Angelo State and Arkansas-Little Rock, is a 1995 Texas graduate.
  • When he was hired at Texas, Beard received a seven-year contract with an annual salary of $5 million.

“The complainant wants him released immediately and all charges dismissed”—is the attorney for the accused really expecting the public to believe this fact exonerates his client? One would have to live under a rock to be unaware that this reaction (minimizing the abuse, trying to smooth things over, trying to shoulder the blame for the abuse) is all too common from victims of abuse? Give me a break.

Oh my god I’m praying for her swift and safe exit from an imminently fatal relationship. Moo based on:

“The officers at the scene listed the fiance as having the following injuries in the affidavit:

- bite mark
- right eye brow abrasion,
- abrasion on left leg from knee to foot
- cut to her left thumb”
