GUILTY TX - Zoe Hastings, 18, abducted & murdered, Dallas, 11 Oct 2015

  • #341
His Facebook doesn't really set off that many red flags to me, compared to some I've seen. I get the feeling that he's a follower more than a leader.

He's got a "Blood" pic, and he's throwing the Blood hand sign in many of his pics, yet I get the distinct feeling his gang involvement is minimal. Probably was due to a loose affiliation with a group in prison. I have a family member who is a Blood, and involved heavily in the gang as a lifestyle (even approaching 30). The real ones are insanely proud of it, and their bodies (tattoos), clothes, and personas reflect that fact. If this suspect was a real gang member of any kind, even a lowly foot soldier selling weed on a corner, his Facebook would make it obvious.

I just thought I'd give a little insight if anyone else noticed the gang thing.

Most people have some kind of hobby, activity, or interest in their lives. I'm thinking along the lines of sports fans, celebrate gossip followers, firearm enthusiasts, computer/tech nuts, shoe collectors, etc... You can usually get a sense of that by looking over their social media presence. I just don't see any kind of focus from this guy other than women, and he's awkward with that. Something is obviously wrong with his thought process towards females (his past with the gf's daughter, whatever that entails). I can only hope there are no other victims of his twisted thought process, but sadly I think there are others who might not have met the same fate as Zoe, but have been assaulted by him.

IMO MOO and all that jazz.

Wow @dallasnews reports that apparently man charged w-18 year old Zoe Hastings appears to have attended her funeral. Now that's truly gross.

Not my intent-last thing I would want-apologies!

Dallas police have an update on the Zoe Hastings murder case. Live updates here: http://d-news.co/TNxSq

Thus, MS Gloria is sadly mistaken and has apologized.

Thank you DeDee. Gloria has tons of integrity, I'm sure she feels awful about her part in this rumor. I'm very surprised that after over 30 years as a (now retired) journalist she would have made a comment as a member of the public without factual information. I feel so badly that this untruth impacted the family. God bless them and their broken hearts. Good job on research!

Did you see he was posting pictures on Oct 17 it was like he didn't have a care in the world he just murdered a girl a few days ago.

I'm confused. I thought the perp had "big hair" or fro like hair. On Oct 10 (day before Zoe goes missing) he posts a picture of himself with a squirrel and he has short hair. I wonder what type of DNA evidence they found. I mean, SURELY they have more evidence than just the DNA, but I guess I don't see this as resembling what the witness says she saw. Then again, witnesses can be TOTALLY wrong and if there's DNA then I trust that over a witness any day.

Very interesting. His fb page doesn't seem that "odd" to me either. Seems like your average idiots fb. So sad. I wonder what in the world the motive is here. Unless it was just totally random or sexually driven. SO horrific. I'm so sad for this family but happy that the suspect has been caught!!!

The description the witness had could have been off.

His FB doesn't look TOO alarming, but I did notice that he shared a gif on October 14 at 2:03 am that depicts a man slapping people who "picked on" the man's kid. AC commented that that's what he felt like the other day.

The "other day" could have been the day of Zoe's killing. Anyone else see that?

A little disturbing, IMO.

Maybe he wore a wig? Sounds strange I know but its a possibility.

I think his motive was that of a life long criminal whose sex crimes got more and more violent.

A prior sexual assault of a girl and a history of criminal activity. If he is convicted, I hope the new DA in Dallas agrees that he meets the "qualifications" for the death penalty.

Dallas murder suspect was acquitted of rape charge

There were so many warning signs . . . what a damn shame.

http://www.wfaa.com/story/news/crim...urder-suspect-acquitted-rape-charge/74661288/

Snip from the article you posted and BBM: " On the way, Hastings stopped at a Walgreens at Garland Road and Peavy Drive to return a movie. A witness said a man forced a woman in a minivan to move to the passenger seat “against her will.” The man then got into the driver’s seat and drove away, according to court records."

http://crimeblog.dallasnews.com/201...o-have-gotten-into-zoe-hastings-minivan.html/

From an article from The Dallas News: " The witness told police the man and woman appeared to exchange words, at which point the man got into the driver’s seat while the woman moved to the passenger side. The witness did not mention a struggle, Geron said."

So, was there a struggle or not? How many witnesses?

"Antonio Cochran’s former girlfriend got a disturbing text message from him not long ago.

“He said that something had happened that was going to change his life forever, and it was too late to take it back,” said the woman, who lives in the Texarkana area.

It wasn’t until Cochran's weekend arrest in the killing of 18-year-old Zoe Hastings that she had an inkling about what he might be talking about.

The former girlfriend’s name is being withheld because her teenage daughter accused Cochran of sexually assaulting her in Texarkana last year. He was acquitted of that charge earlier this year."

<modsnip>

Just trying to cut the jury some slack here.

Sulamith, regarding the different statements from local news.

My guess on why the statements differ . . . MOO LE doesn't reveal all known facts to protect the investigation. I'm not clear on the number of witnesses and again think LE has/is holding selected info to protect the investigation.

More often than not, after a high profile crime, misinformation in the initial hours/days is not uncommon. It's frustrating.

Imagine if the former girlfriend had herself filed and pressed charges for the violence? Instead she continued living with him, even trusting him to drive her daughter around. Then when daughter was assaulted, it was the 17 year old who wasnt believed when it went before a jury.

And as much as I have read that IPV and DV is so hard to get away from, if your partner is chasing you with hammers and knives why in the world would you allow access to the daughter?

While Antonio is ultimately to blame for all of the above, the fact he was on the street and free is just sickening to me that there were clear signs that he was a threat to women and very dangerous.

And smoking meth isnt drinking an occasional glass of wine or sharing a doobie, meth is some serious drug. My guess is former girlfriend also indulged with him, I mean who allows that to go on in a home with a child? It is just sickening that it seems women were his enablers on his path to killing a young innocent woman. Even with awareness of his past run ins with law, and past rape charges she wants to go speak with him to ask him if he did this?

(snip by me) If someone is forced by knife or gun to move over so they can take you and your car, there may not be a struggle. If a witness is at an angle and does not see the gun or knife but just sees the Zoe scoot over, they may think it was a normal interaction. It may be 2 different witnesses seeing only part of what really was happening.

From the FAA article :
Newly-obtained court records indicate that Hastings was stabbed to death with a cutting instrument. Police had not previously disclosed how Hastings died.

Also the woman who died and was called "mother" on the suspect's Facebook page was the mother of his best friend. The suspect moved to Dallas a few months earlier to help his friend with his dying mother. His real mother was interviewed in the article.

Why did he have to murder her? And the brutal way he did it?

It seems every time I get in my car lately I think of Zoe and how scared she must have been of him.

Sometimes I feel her fear.

I dont think a non violent person can ever relate to someone who intentionally inflicts harm, or murders them and thank G-d we dont.

But, I am with you I just cannot stop thinking of the loss ......... loss to her family, loss to her church community, loss to her mission, loss to her friends, loss of her future.

And because the sibling of the family I knew in NY was so very traumatized by the loss of the much loved sister ... I cannot help but worry for the same fears for her siblings. Especially the little boy, because it is women we so devalue in our society will he always feel like he needs to watch over the girls? Will he fear having kids himself? Will they never feel safe or free in this world again?

It is just heartbreaking in every way.

I am curious how they knew to look at the apartment on Amesbury, were there phone records from him calling his mom in Texarkana? How if he wasnt on the lease did they pick him up within 10-12 hours of getting the dna match? And have they determined if he wandered around or had a vehicle that day? There seems to be no warrant served on any vehicle? So why didnt anyone notice if he had evidence on him? Stabbings are very messy, where are his clothes?

As much as they have a dna match, there is no such thing as a perfect crime and there has to be more evidence in addition to the witness testimony.

I so want to know he will never walk among us again, or hurt anyone else again.

I am no specialist but that sounds easy if he has been using his own phone. With the DNA ID they had his mother and his ex GF as contacts, and he did contact both by phone and text. So they could monitor his phone's activity real time.and hence locate him by triangulation to the accuracy of a city block or better. They may also have used WIFI signals.

Whether he was on the lease or not the people one the lease would have to notify management of anyone staying for more than a couple of days (lease agreement) and perhaps they did.
If not it would have been a matter of waiting around in a car for a few hours assuming he would be going out every day.

In fact I suspect they could get tower data from all his activity for days prior to the attack.

The only aim of this discussion here for me is to try and figure out what exactly happened and a way in which there is a chance the worse case scenario can be avoided in a similar case, for the next girl. I am not especially curious about crime(s). in general.

Once this guy is sitting in the driver seat sadly you probably have no other option than becoming a really good actress on the spot: play along. I remember a case of a woman in Europe who managed to convince a rapist that she actually found him attractive but did not want the experience to be under such conditions and and "delayed" the assault enough so she could escape (the nerve this must have taken!)

I think that similarly to someone trying to mug you while on drugs, the perp is extremely nervous even scared perhaps as scared as you. You resisting or worse producing a gun during a mugging almost guaranties you will be armed. Trying to make the perp feel safer may help. This is why in Chicago it was thought that the best defense was a surprising amount of money with the per running away as opposed to assaulting you or shooting you in frustration and fear.
You have seen his face so the only way out is to make him believe he will be able to claim it was consensual. Unless his aim was really murder it may help.

Also this is why I asked above whether the car had a child safe door locking system, how is it she did not try and jump off, perhaps she could not open the door.

Does anyone know how long it takes to prepare for trial. Do you think LE will makes any deals with him to get more information from him ie: location of the attack, etc.? On the other case of the jogger that was killed at White Rock Lake with a machete around the same time, his wife committed suicide this week. His loss was too much to bear. So sad.
