A man jailed for life last year for the murders of two teenagers in Bristol had been stopped by the police who found a machete in his car just eight days before the attacks. Bristol Live can reveal for the first time that Anthony Snook, the adult who drove four teenagers to carry out the attack on Max Dixon and Mason Rist in January 2024, was temporarily detained by police just eight days earlier, when officers found a large machete-style knife in the boot of his car.

A trial was held in December last year, leading to Smith, Maddocks, Williams and Jillian Tolliver being sentenced today.

Smith and Maddocks, both 26 and from Westbury-on-Trym, were found guilty of two counts of assisting an offender.

Smith has been jailed for four years, while Maddocks received a two-year suspended prison sentence and must carry out 120 hours’ unpaid work.

Williams, 32 and from Hartcliffe, was convicted of one count of assisting an offender and also was jailed for four years.

Officer in the case, DC Matthew Cron, said: “Eleven people have been sentenced in connection with Max and Mason’s deaths – the five who murdered them and six who helped them in the subsequent hours.
How can so many people get involved, to murder two teenagers, and then cover up?
