ARRESTS IN HUNT FOR BOMB FACTORY

Daily Mail
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...sts-connected-Manchester-suicide-bombing.html

A number of terror suspects have been arrested in dramatic raids as police hunt for the bomb factory where the device used by Manchester terrorist Salman Abedi was made.

Bomb disposal experts were this evening called to an address in Wigan which was raided in connection with the atrocity, and homes surrounding it were evacuated.

Greater Manchester Police said 'potentially suspicious items' were found at the terraced house, which witnesses say was raided by armed officers at around 1.30am.

Residents described the area, close to Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, as being 'in lockdown' with helicopters overhead. Nurses arriving for their shifts were unable to get into work because the road was blocked.

A man was arrested yesterday afternoon in the town, but it is not known whether the address - 17 miles from the Manchester Arena - is directly linked to him. Witnesses on the scene say a bomb disposal robot was seen on the street, but a controlled explosion was not carried out.

Manchester attack: Fears over 'second bomb' after police find huge chemical explosive cache in Salman Abedi raid

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...-fears-second-bomb-police-find-huge-chemical/

Officers who raided the home of Salman Abedi discovered a working bomb factory with a huge stash of explosive chemicals and other components.

Security sources now believe that Abedi assembled the bomb himself after learning his trade in Libya.

But the amount of material in his home has led to fears that he could have built more than one device and and distributed them to other British-based extremists.

Thanks for this. It explains why the critical level and why the hospitals are on standby. FFS.

I am in awe of the police force in Manchester. They hit the ground running and haven't stopped and are finding more and more possible terrorists. They certainly are to be commended for a job well done.

I do greatly worry about their own personal safety though since chemicals are dangerous themselves if breathed in and places could be booby trapped by now too.

I pray they all remain safe as they go about their work of rounding up those who wish to harm more innocent people.

I missed this somehow but was the mother of the suicide bomber still living in her home with him? If so, how could she not know about all of the bomb making materials inside of the home? The way its been stated it seems there was a vast amount of bomb making material found in his home.

1. The Islamic State's weekly newsletter is out several hours later than normal. It includes a page long article on the Manchester attack:

2. As we await translation, I'm curious to know if it make mention of remote detonation, which is one of the characteristics found at scene

3. Acc to my colleague, Nour Youssef it says: "A soldier of the Caliphate attacked a gathering of Crusaders with several explosive devices."

4. This means that now, a full 3 days after Monday's bloodshed, ISIS is sticking to its original account in Nashir. It's talking about IEDs:

5. Why is this curious? We know that Salman Abedi died in the explosion. When have we ever seen ISIS *not* take credit for a martyrdom op?

6. I've been watching ISIS channels & 1 thing that typically happens after attacks has not: They are not changing their profile pic to his

7. See this picture of Orlando shooter Omar Mateen. His image graced the account of 1 of best-known ISIS propagandists Aswarti post-attack

8. It's a tradition: When a major attack happens, they pay homage to the "martyr." Making posters of him. Changing their profile pic to his

9. It's kinda the ISIS equivalent of how ppl changed their Facebook profile pic to "Je suis Charlie" following the Charlie Hebdo attack

10. Another thing that's not happening? We haven't seen the suicide bomber's "wasiyya," or will. This is required of suicide bombers:

11. I'm puzzled by the lack of hagiography on ISIS' part for an attacker that carried out ISIS' most horrific attack in the UK since 2005

12. Instead on @YouTube, ISIS has just released it's Ramadan call for attacks on the infidels during the holy month. Ramadan starts tomorrow

13 Some have wondered how ISIS could be so gross as to target teen girls in Manchester. In address they make clear all civilians are targets

"The Manchester bomber is believed to have planned the attack for at least a year and bought nails and screws for the atrocity in two trips to DIY stores in the city, The Times has learnt.

Salman Abedi, 22, opened a bank account about 12 months ago that lay dormant until he used it to buy shrapnel for the bomb that killed 22 people and injured scores more at Manchester Arena on Monday night.

In another effort to avoid suspicion he is believed to have made at least two separate trips to buy materials at B&Q and Screwfix in the Manchester area shortly before leaving for Libya in mid-April, according to sources.

It is frightening to know how long in advance this atrocity was planned. Thank you to everyone for your news updates and posts they are appreciated.

does this mean he likely knew or suspected that he was on a watch list and therefore was trying to be covert? I just don't see the point of letting the bank acc't sit dormant?

Let me ask another question please for those living in this area.

Yesterday on several media sites they showed photos where the Libya community lives in Manchester. What i thought was odd is among many of these dwellings everyone had their drapes/blinds closed tight or had what looked to be some kind a tinfoil applied on all of the windows in the front blocking the view. The photos were taken during the day.

Is this is a normal thing to do? I guess why it strikes me as odd is we never keep our drapes closed during the daytime and none of our neighbors do it either. If the entire windows were sealed off from view all of the time that would be very depressing to me making everything feel so closed in and dark.

Does the Manchester police often patrol these areas?

they do things a bit differently in England because their laws are dissimilar when it comes to arrest/detainment

'You can be held without charge for up to 14 days If you’re arrested under the Terrorism Act.

The police can release you on police bail if there’s not enough evidence to charge you. You don’t have to pay to be released on police bail, but you’ll have to return to the station for further questioning when asked.'

https://www.gov.uk/arrested-your-rights/how-long-you-can-be-held-in-custody

I do anticipate many suspects will be released without charge as I've often seen this in other English cases

"The final victim of the Manchester Arena terror attack has been named as 15-year-old Megan Hurley, a 'gentle and unassuming girl' who loved music and animals.

She had attended the concert with her older brother Brad, 20, who was seriously injured in the attack.

Her parents, Michael and Joanne, run a sandwich shop in Hunts Cross, in Liverpool, and are understood to be at their son's bedside as he recovers from the blast.

Terrorists do not wake up one day carry out their evil acts. It is planned for months or years. They are very determined and invested in their plans.

Police in England arrested a man Friday morning in connection to Monday's terror attack at an Ariana Grande concert that left 22 people dead, Greater Manchester Police announced.

"This morning (Friday 26 May 2017) we have arrested a man in the Moss Side area," the police department tweeted. "The arrest is connected to Monday's attack on the Manchester Arena, but this is a fast moving investigation and we are keeping an open mind at this stage."

There has been boiling hot weather in the last few days. Keeping your curtains closed would keep the heat out. People of Libyan descent would probably be more aware of that trick.

Yes, Australians do that when it is very hot.I mean close the house up. I have seen people put foil on the windows that the afternoon sun catches.

He may well have another account or an alias. I have doubt about his details because he was originally described as the second youngest and was supposed to be back in Libya with the mother and father and younger sister. Now the father said Salman is innocent. Perhaps Salman is the 20 year old brother in Libya and this is the next younger brother aged 22 who has taken the younger brother's identity. JMO.
