Detectives investigating the deaths of 39 people whose bodies were found in Grays last week are releasing details of two men they want to speak to.

Ronan Hughes, 40, from Armagh in Northern Ireland and his brother Christopher, who’s 34, and also from Armagh, are wanted on suspicion of manslaughter and human trafficking.

Ronan Hughes, who also goes by the name Rowan, and Christopher have links to both Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic.

Detective Chief Superintendent Stuart Hooper, who is leading the investigation, said: “Finding and speaking to the Hughes brothers is crucial to our investigation.

“At this time we believe they are in Northern Ireland but they also have links to the Irish Republic.

“If you know where they are or have any information about their whereabouts I need you to call my team.

“This is a case where 39 men and women have tragically died and support from the community is going to be vital to help bring those responsible to justice.

“You may think the piece of information might be insignificant but even the smallest detail could be vital so please contact my officers on 101 or online at: the UK Police Major Incident Public Reporting site

“I appreciate you may not want to speak to the police so you can also contact Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Maurice Robinson, 25, of Laurel Drive, Craigavon, Northern Ireland, has been charged with 39 counts of manslaughter, conspiracy to traffic people, conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration, and money laundering and is next due to appear at the Old Bailey on 25 November.

Three other people arrested – a 38 year-old man, a 38 year-old woman, and a 46 year-old man – have all been released on bail until November.

Posting this again for reference:

A man said to have leased the lorry container in which 39 migrants died reportedly gave his name to the trailer's owners as Ronan Hughes.

A 'Mr Hughes' signed the lease document, according to the Irish Times.

The address reportedly given on the lease document by 'Ronan Hughes' is said to match that of haulier C Hughes Transport.

C Hughes Transport was dissolved in 2017 but a C Hughes Logistics lists its business address as a post box along a farm track in County Monaghan on the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

A Ronan Hughes lives a short distance away, just over the border in the Irish Republic.

When MailOnline visited his home on Friday, Mr Hughes was unavailable for comment. However, a lorry with C Hughes insignia was parked in a yard near his home.

Didn't the press doorknock the Hughes brothers over the weekend? There will be questions to answer now if they've been allowed to go on the run.

That's interesting, I looked at the Chrissy Hughes FB earlier but it now appears to have been deleted and your link no longer works. The other one still does.

He's deactivated. If he's logged into Facebook today, the Police might be able to track his movements through that if he isn't smart enough to use a VPN.

Yep you’re right, I linked the article earlier, maybe on previous page

Think it was the Mirror who went a-knocking and found him 'not at home'....

So who is the 45/6/8 yo from Stansted? (Seemed to be a different age every day....)

29 October 2019:

Ronan Hughes was jailed for two and a half years in 2009 after he was stopped going to Dover from France with six million cigarettes hidden inside pallets of fruit. He is the owner of the blue Scania cab which is suspected to have taken the 31 men and eight women in a container to Zeebrugge before it was transported to the UK.

The cab was seized at Dublin Port on Saturday and the driver, Eamon Harrison, 23, was arrested on an unrelated warrant for assault and criminal damage.

Ronan Hughes also leased the refrigerated container in which the bodies were found. The Irish Times reported that his brother’s firm, C Hughes Logistics, was given as the name of the company that leased the container.

29 October 2019:

A family haulage business called C Hughes Logistics lists its address as a post box along a farm track in South Armagh, close to the border with County Monaghan in the Republic of Ireland.

Ronan Hughes lives a short distance away along a small country road in the sleepy hamlet of Tyhollad in Monaghan.

When MailOnline visited his home last week, Mr Hughes was unavailable for comment. Instead hostile neighbours and friends of the Hughes family poured out their homes to shout abuse. One told our reporter to 'get back in your car and 🤬🤬🤬* off.'

Ah so it was the press - not the police.
