The section, which states that a person cannot be surrendered if the offence in the arrest warrant was committed in a place other than the issuing state, was found to be an "absolute bar" to the extradition of Mr Bailey.

Lawyers acting for the NI man alleged to have delivered the trailer in which 39 migrants were found dead last week has told the High Court that the warrant may give rise to a potential for Section 44 of the European Arrest Warrant Act “being played”.

Courts News Ireland on Twitter
44.—A person shall not be surrendered under this Act if the offence specified in the European arrest warrant issued in respect of him or her was committed or is alleged to have been committed in a place other than the issuing state and the act or omission of which the offence consists does not, by virtue of having been committed in a place other than the State, constitute an offence under the law of the State.

I don't think Belgium will have a problem charging him if necessary.

The police in Ha Tinh province, Vietnam, say they have arrested two unnamed people who may be involved in sending people illegally to the UK. They have been charged with "organising or brokering illegal emigration".

Wondering why it took them so long to issue the arrest warrant for these two when it was obvious they were involved on some level.

I wonder if Mo didn’t give their names? And that the company that leased the trailer also withheld information long enough for the Hughes to have time to abscond?

I see no money laundering charges or concealing, converting criminal property, and acquiring criminal property for Eamon Harrison.

I don't recall seeing that his property has been raided unless I missed it or it was not reported on? Surely it was done by police?

He should have similar charges to Mo, or even harsher as he was the one who moved people from France to Belgium and he was the one who locked all 39 in the fridge.

Good point but just looking at the info on the internet l worked out he hired the trailer and owned the blue cab and most likely wasn't the person arrested at Stansted at least 2 days before the announcement they were being looked for. Think l commented earlier on this thread and someone else worked it out too :)

He sounds like he has learning difficulties so most likely was just a driver. He most likely doesn't have access to businesses to launder through...

To be fair yes they are adults but look at their ages they have been blinded by greed. Silly little boys.

Further charges could come later.
A very large sum of money was found at Mo's house Perhaps someone had time to hide any cash that Eamon had stashed away.It could be he had just started to be involved in criminal activities and so had not yet amassed a large amount of money

Ronan called the police himself right after Mo got arrested, like 2 a.m. or something. All nosy and trying to get information. He tipped himself off if nothing else. Smart.

If Mo had mentioned the Hughes and their names was on the lease for the trailer, wouldn’t they have brought them in straight away? Or had they already left after making the phone call on the night perhaps?
