Every British Citizen I know who can prove eligibility is queuing up for an Irish passport (before Brexit). They aren’t having to renounce British Citizenship.

I take the point that EH and family have been given notice that there is a threat to their lives. Is that not for the Garda and Essex Police to manage, or does the entire investigation and justice system come to a standstill in the face of that?

I have seen this mentioned by different people on social media that MR had a ‘stash of money’ going into many 10’s of thousands. I cannot find an article which clearly states this and corroborates an actual figure?

EH is wanted in connection with trafficking and immigration offences as well as manslaughter. They know what time some of the victims were still alive because if the texts. If EH was in Belgium knowing that 39 people were shut in the trailer he was pulling there is an offence occurring, whether the are dead or alive. And many of the details might be difficult to know until they question EH. I can’t see how an EAW can be expected to be precise about all details when the purpose of the EAW is to try and find out those very details..,,

Ok, so on an Irish passport, and an Irish citizen. Unbeknownst to his family member.

Ok, so on an Irish passport, and an Irish citizen. Unbeknownst to his family member.
I think (could be wrong) that the offences regarding regarding having people shut in the truck were probably perpetrated in Belgium (although could have been northern France. So maybe he has to be extradited to Belgium or Northern France on these charges?
There was a discussion earlier about texts being sent from a sealed metal container ... at sea .. I think the conclusion was that the text may have been composed earlier, but could have been sent when the phone came into reach of the phone network on the Essex coast.

A spokesman for COA (Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers) confirmed this to Argos and the Algemeen Dagblad at their request.
Research by Argos shows that the victim would be a boy who ran away from a protected shelter in Limburg earlier this year. He was placed there to protect him against human traffickers. The employees of the shelter are not allowed to respond, but indicate that the news has had a great impact. It goes without saying that it is a great tragedy', says a COA spokesman on their behalf. COA does not want to make any statements about the identity of the boy 'for reasons of privacy'.
Argos has been investigating the disappearances of Vietnamese children after their arrival in the Netherlands for some time now. In the past five years, at least sixty Vietnamese children have disappeared from the protected reception locations that are intended to protect them. COA is struggling with the reception of Vietnamese children, according to internal e-mails. These refugees always disappear', a staff member wrote in October 2017.

And, it seems, end up in cannabis farms. I was just reading a report from 2017, I think, documenting the number of Vietnamese minors tending cannabis farms .
The system seems to rely on bonded labour to the smugglers and traffickers. If a migrant knows that if they do not fulfil their debt to the smugglers their families will suffer. it is likely that they will 'escape' or , perhaps, allow themselves to be smuggled out.

Children are disappearing all over Europe
Argos is one of the initiators of Lost in Europe, an international collective of investigative journalists who investigate how it is possible that thousands of refugee children disappear from the radar upon arrival in Europe, and what has happened to them.
Research by Lost in Europe earlier this year showed that the route from Vietnam to the Netherlands and England is controlled by smuggling networks with links to the Vietnamese, Chinese, Albanian and Eastern European mafia.
Protected shelter staff in the Netherlands told Argos that 'on the same day, children are picked up from different locations'. They also indicate that they are being observed, and that at night there are cars with flashing lights at the location. We simply can't stop that.
In England, undocumented Vietnamese have been discovered as forced labourers on cannabis plantations and in nail studios. Vietnamese migrants have been in the top 3 of potential victims of human trafficking for years. In the past 10 years more than 3000 victims have been registered.
In Belgium, 44 underage Vietnamese disappeared from reception locations in 2.5 years, according to Lost in Europe partner Knack. In addition, they observed a sharp increase in Vietnamese nail salons, where the inspection regularly comes across undocumented workers who are being exploited.
In Germany, many more Vietnamese disappear from the radar. The RBB, the public broadcaster in Berlin, discovered that 474 Vietnamese children disappeared from the shelter in the German capital alone. "We are talking about human trafficking and modern slavery," according to the Polish Public Prosecutor Michal Smetowsk to the RBB. A number of smugglers of human beings are now on trial in Poznan, Poland. They are said to have smuggled at least 300 Vietnamese, including many minors, to Germany. Smetowski: "They deliberately misled the victims and their families by promising their work. They let them work without pay and let them go hungry. They hit them and raped a girl. We assume that some of them were taken to massage parlours and brothels."
The Vietnamese who were found dead in a truck in Essex were also smuggled by a professional international network. The Vietnamese authorities arrested 11 people in the provinces of Ha Thin and Nghe An who were allegedly involved in the smuggling ring. Five suspects were arrested in the United Kingdom.
