His mother did, and said he was extremely drunk. The CCTV footage would have let the jury see just how ‘drunk’ he was though..

His mother was also reportedly drunk during the argument where she established he was extremely drunk though.

It seems he did send the video of his body in the mirror with the caption about finding the guy who did it before anyone knew she'd been murdered -

He was asked about a video where he seemed to incriminate himself and said that no one even knew it was a murder when the video was taken.

He added: "It was all speculation."

Teen in Alesha MacPhail murder trial tells court Toni McLachlan killed child
Just reading further into that article and it confirms that his semen was found inside her body. I don't think that was apparent from any of the earlier reporting.

Ahh, ok, fair enough. I suppose I’m quite shocked that any mother would just observe her teenage son drink that amount and then leave him to his own devices and go to bed...? Especially if he has a history of criminal/difficult behaviour in the past? Recipe for disaster IMO.

She also wasn’t that fussed at him smoking weed but who are we to judge her. I suspect she may of been scared / intimidated by him hence the reason for needing assistance when speaking to him about DNA etc.

We don't know what he'd drunk. We only know what he SAID he'd drunk, to his mum and to the police. We also don't know how often he drinks, I had a friend who started drinking at 13 and by 16 she could drink a quarter bottle of vodka down without any discernible effect whatsoever. His 14 sister was at his "party" and left with his friends so for all we know he could be a regular drinker of several years and not drunk despite having imbibed what he says he had.

Alesha had already gotten up and been put back to bed once that night by her granddad, and she was also known to sleepwalk. The accused asked friends "how did they get her out the house though?" in his group chat conversation with friends. That indicates to me that there is something more to it - that Alesha was up when he got there and he lured her out, or that she was already out, perhaps in the garden (i doubt her feet would be clean if she'd walked to where she died, but it was a warm summer night and she could have stepped out into the garden without immediately becoming muddy). That she was out, or at least not in her bed where she was meant to be, when he came across and subsequently abducted her.

I think this type of theory is more plausible than him getting in and out of the home undetected by the family or by forensics. My opinion has always been that it was opportunity over preplanning.

Yes that’s why I said the footage would allow the jury to observe how drunk or not so he actually was.

This is a highly emotive case and with the fact his DNA evidence was found on the wee girl I can totally understand why some people have reached the conclusion he is likely to be guilty on that alone.

While I can understand the point on having not heard the entirety of the defence case yet. This is an online forum, no one is a member of the jury. Folk will have their opinions. They are based on the testimonies of experts in their fields, not just rumours. There isn't an online equivelant of banging on the van...that's a very different thing from forming an opinion and posting it on an online discussion board.

After reading about the naming of Jolene Doherty this morning as she’s just turned 18 and is no longer protected, I ’m almost positive this will be the case here,

Which is really unfortunate coz reading between the lines there is deffinitley *something* that a lot of people know about that happened in the past with this boy but I don’t have a clue. I really want to find out, maybe when he’s 18 and he’s no longer protected we can meet back here and you can all fill me in?

I honestly don't think you'll need to wait that long. Whatever it is, I think it will come out before he turns 18. Obviously not on here because I understand the rules but I'm sure it will on other places.

Just read something about the key that clears up some earlier confusion. It was the door to the actual flat and a yale lock. The grandmother had been hanging out the washing earlier in the evening and been running up and down the stairs. She’d left the key in the outside of the lock for convenience and had forgotten to take it out.

But as other members have said, Alesha may have been wandering about outside, so the key was never used anyway.

Alesha MacPhail's dad 'watched 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on night murdered daughter disappeared'

That article does NOT specify whether the door with the yale lock was at the bottom of the stairs or the top.

She said that on the night before Alesha was found, she had left the key in the door of the flat when she went to bed as she had been “up and down the stairs hanging out washing” earlier in the evening.

Angela added: “I had forgotten to take the key back out the door.”

Calum said Angela “quite often” left a key in the Yale lock on the door because the area was so safe.

He said: “That’s the thing about Rothesay – a lot of people leave their doors open.”

His YT channel is increasing in views and subscribers. Not drastically, but it has a little bit over the past few days. Not sure if I'm even supposed to post that but I just thought it was slightly interesting to note. I guess in the digital age people are intrigued by a potential criminal's online habits and want to get a glimpse of them.

I agree and I would be more inclined to expect a Yale lock on the downstairs outer door, rather than a first floor internal flat door

I do wonder why people subscribe tbh, like why subscribe when you can watch without doing so. Is this so they can go back and watch another time with ease as I don’t suspect he will have anymore videos on it. I’m not a frequent YouTuber.

It could be incase there is any future activity on the channel, if the accused was found innocent and then uploaded again.

Oh the thought gives me the shudders

I'm not sure either. It could be because it's easier for them to go back and watch it again but if you know his name it's pretty easy to find. Or maybe like Bustia said they're waiting to see if he's found innocent.

I doubt he'll be posting any videos if he's sentenced. However, given how lax the prison system can be at times, especially with inmates having mobile phones, TVs and a variety of other luxuries I wouldn't be that stunned to see him vlogging from behind bars. Obviously just being sarcastic, but they are a bit too soft sometimes.

This is my thinking. Also I deep clean my bathroom more than most (every 2 days, OCD problems) maybe his mum was the same. Without knowingly cleaning away any evidence of course. I just don’t see why his mum would knowingly clean away evidence but hand over CCTV, one of the most incriminating evidence of the case tbh.

His mother had to have gone through wild emotional swings — the horror of the missing, then found wee girl, then having an inkling about her son, so reviewing and reporting CCTV. And then potentially reverting back to being protective of him, and doing a deep clean at home. MOO.

Just a horrific tragedy for all involved. And let us not learn that it could have been prevented, if he had proclivities.

Well, I suppose it’s a matter of interpretation of the phrase “door of the flat”.
And her husband’s related comment- “That’s the thing about Rothesay – a lot of people leave their doors open”

To me they’re talking about the door that gives entry to their home. Growing up in flats in Scotland myself, I’d use another phrase for an outside door at the entrance to the building. “Door to the flat” perhaps! And it wouldn’t be remarkable in any way for one of those to be left open.

All the flats I’ve lived in have had yale locks on both outer and inner doors.

But point taken, we really need to see a diagram to be absolutely sure.
