Thank god for that, I was genuinely starting to worry that he might be getting away with it. Glad to hear it was unanimous too.

Hopefully the sentence matches the crime, which is beyond question the most horrific I’ve ever read the details of. The longer this absolute monster is off the streets the better - not only in terms of justice for Alesha, but for the safety of kids everywhere.

Unanimous.

That's amazing! Just shows that with ALL the evidence the case must have been pretty watertight.

I haven't followed this much but I'm having a little cry anyway, huge respect and a big hug for all of you who cared so much about getting justice for Alesha.

Now will the jury find out his past misdemeanours? I have no idea what they are and have heard no rumours and it was clear to me once DNA evidence was introduced. Would like to know more about his past now.
me too!

Unanimous decision.. so would indicate we heard no where near what they did through tweets as we suspected.

Just burst into tears I think cause it’s all so horrendous and should never have happened

I’m with you. Complete breakdown ongoing. No one will ever forget you Alesha, RIP xx

Prosecutor says Alesha’s mum’s victim statement says “her world has been ripped from her” and she says she has nightmares about what happened to her daughter.

Court hears the media is attempting to identify the 16 year old. Both the Crown and Defence will meet tomorrow to discuss the next steps.

I must say I did have my doubts at time but there must have been so much more to this than what was being reported. Glad justice has been served and her poor family can rest in the knowledge her killer is behind bars. So horrific and should never have happened. Now this is going to be so unbearably difficult for them trying to rebuild their lives.

The 16 year-old cannot yet be identified until he’s 18, but the media have applied to have this anonymity lifted so we can identify the male who raped & murdered Alesha MacPhail. The judge says this application will be considered tomorrow. @itvnews

Alesha’s teenage killer remains in the dock looking directly at the judge with no expression on his face.

Are they doing sentencing now?

Usually it's a few weeks later with Scottish courts - but who knows, they might do it quicker in this case

ETA just seen Tortoise post - March 21, so it will be a full month. Probably do all the medical/psychiatric tests now

I feel really emotional now...the absolute gravity of it all has truly hit me. 16. 16 and capable of these unspeakable acts. We HAVE to make sure nothing like this EVER happens again. EVER.

RIP and fly high beautiful, brave little angel, Alesha xxxxx

Thankfully if such a quick and unanimous decision they must be sure by what they saw and heard

Thank goodness this is over I feel so much for all those involved. The case has just shocked me to the core rip alesha

Wow. Unanimous. I was having doubts the last day or two about a potential not proven verdict but it seems like the jurors were never under any doubt. I’m sure Alesha’s family are glad this nightmare of a trial is finally over. I know they’ll never be able to return to normal but hopefully this will bring them a tiny little bit of comfort. Rest in peace beautiful girl.

As I expected. Evil boy.

BBM.

I am relieved at the verdict. I believe 100% that it's the truth, no doubt in my mind at all.

I'm glad he's not going to arrogantly walk free and start planning how he can get away with it again.

But Alesha's family have still lost their darling little girl, and nothing can change that :(
