Plenty of teenagers in Scotland smoke weed, to be honest, it's becoming even more common I would say. I can understand people's hesitations but it's not unusual. In fact, I would say more young people smoke weed than cigarettes nowadays from what I see.

Going around in the middle of the night looking for drugs is odd though, that's true.

MOO ... I feel the boy needs Sterilizing ..... He's a danger to other inmates I think. I hope he is never to be released.
Why does he need sterilizing if he is incarcerated for 27 years? This isn't the Dark Ages. He has been granted an appeal of sentence, which doesn't surprise me as he was under 18 at the time of the crime. Are there any precedences in Scotland with similarities? Eg murders/rapes committed by persons under 18.

Not that I can think of. This was a pretty unprecedented case. In fact, I'm sure it was the longest sentence given out to a minor in modern Scottish history.

Ok so it may be a test case if that is so. I know in England and Wales there will be similar but Scottish law is separate. Do they ever follow English case law? Just wondering if it is worth checking.

Yes, it may very well be. Yeah, I'm sure you'll find similar cases in the other parts of the UK. I think Scottish and English law are pretty distinct, so no they don't tend to follow English case law. It might be worth checking though just in case there has been the odd occurrence.

It's not normal where I live afaik.
In Scotland it's becoming more normal, more teenagers smoke weed rather than drink alcohol these days.

I don't think there is any cases where english law is followed in a Scottish Court, but i could be wrong. Like @TaylorCallum said they are pretty distinct but if you can find any examples i would be interested to read them.

I don't think it is normal for all 16 yo to smoke cannabis and get drunk. Most 16 yo don't even smoke cigarettes these days imo. Wandering around in the middle of the night looking for drugs is no way normal imo.
Pretty much everybody I hung around with was doing both at that age. I know many cannabis users. All of them work and have happy lives. Not one second did I say it was normal to prowl the streets looking for drugs at that time - imo there is a likelihood that was another lie from him to cause more pain to the family (blaming them in a way for selling drugs). I mean it is all a game to him isn't it?

The issues come when somebody has predispositions to mental illness when smoking cannabis, which can be triggered by strong strains (skunk, cheese, whatever it's called these days). I'd be much more worried about legal highs and higher class drugs like heroin, cocaine than a plant which makes people feel good.

I could've written this myself.

I have actually lived a pretty darn sheltered life. But where I live here in the States regular pot use is very normal for teens. I'm honestly shocked someone thought it was unusual? No one said ALL teens were smoking pot all the time. But large percentage smoking regularly. Of course they are.

Yes well it is legal in many states. It's illegal in the UK last I heard.

Wasn't he upset and crying on his bed at the end of the party at his house. That's not normal either is it? There is clearly a problem with this guy. I don't know what it was and the trial didn't get to the bottom of it.

Yeah the high majority of people who smoke weed think smoking cigarettes is disgusting. Lol. Never understood that. I live in Edinburgh and weed smoking is rife. It’s actually more accepted than drinking alcohol at 16. It’s less rowdy!

Yes, same everywhere. I've yet to hear of someone being arrested for breach of the peace after smoking a big bifter.

Me either. Totally agree though that it can cause severe escalating mental health issues if there are some underlying already though.

So what do they smoke the weed in?
