I can’t actually believe a site like that even exsists never mind people actually interested in giving people like them the time of day! The world has gone mad...
It's mental. Remember Kenny Ritchie, the death row prisoner from America? He had a pen pal over here, my husband knew her quite well, she was his godfather's daughter. She was also mental. She joined the campaign for his release, he was released and I'm sure he resided in Edinburgh for a while.
The world is mad o_O

does anyone know how long until we find out whether the judge is going to grant permission for the appeal to proceed?

Can still take up to another 4 weeks. We could hear sooner though, no idea when.

Aaah I really want to know now!

It looks like the appeal would be in a public courtroom if it did go forward - or at least according to this web page I found. Aaron would either appear on video from the young offenders, or in person - which I'm guessing would be what he'd try to do. It turns out that the public could attend the appeal hearing. Would you be likely to attend again TaylorCallum? I'm sure I read somewhere online that the appeals court is in Edinburgh though, not Glasgow. I might be wrong though.

Same, haha!

Part of me is thinking "Well if they've not dismissed it straight away, surely that means they're considering it?" but then that's probably me just guessing about something I'm not that familiar with.

Oh, interesting. Thanks for the link! I feel like Aaron would want to be there in person like you say. I would attend, yes. It is Edinburgh I'm sure, I think all appeals are heard there. I'd still go though, I've never been to the Edinburgh High Court. Do you think you'd pop over and attend?

Thanks for the link, interesting reading but is that not based on law in England?

Although a part of me does want to attend, another part feels like I might not like seeing Genie, Rab and their family get upset if he is successful in his appeal. After hearing Genie screaming at the end of the live recording it made it all feel even more real. Also I will likely have to work when the appeal takes place, unless it's on the weekend. So I probably won't attend but if you attend I'd be very interested to hear your experience of the time in court if you choose to post it here.

Oh I'm not sure...I never considered that...

@Yenriac - I wonder if even if it is not normally done they might make it public because of the case being of such public interest - they already did things differently to how they normally do when they had a live recording of the judge's sentencing...

I know exactly what you mean, it really is a tense atmosphere at the best of times. I can only imagine what it would be like if he is successful. Yeah. Do you think all of Alesha's family will attend the appeal? Oh yes, of course, if I go I definitely will post about it here. If it does go ahead, I don't think it will happen for a good few months yet though.

I can only imagine the tension in the court room whilst you all sat there waiting for it to begin and the families were filing in. Yeah I definitely think Alesha's family will attend. Genie did say she'd laugh in Aarons face if he ended up getting even more time on his sentence. I wouldn't be surprised if she is thinking about trying to get at him again like she said she was imagining doing last time. No doubt there will be lots of paparazzi outside again waiting to take photos of them too.

Oh good, that would be interesting to hear your take on it again. Yeah I think it will take a good while before it all takes place/if it takes place.

I'm not sure, the appeal details will be published though, I've read a few before.
I think It's possible, but do they really want to give him more publicity?
I'm hoping it gets rejected anyway either that or they decide to make an example of him and increase the sentence.

Does anyone know how to edit Wikipedia pages? Aleshas hasn’t even got her picture. There’s hardly anything on it but two short paragraphs. I feel she deserves more :(

They have to consider it, if they just dismissed it out of hand I think that would be grounds for appeal too. Its such an unusual case that I think they may let the appeal go ahead, but I doubt the sentence will be reduced.

It's crazy. Especially the lulls when it went silent at certain points. Oh yeah, I know Genie will definitely be there. She wouldn't miss it. It wouldn't surprise me if she felt like doing that again either. I just wasn't sure if all of the MacPhail family would attend? I think Toni might not? Or she could if she's there to offer Rab support. The paparazzi are hilarious, it's like they're waiting on a celebrity. I know they're just doing their job though.

I think the average is 5 months or something I read? But that was in England, I don't know if it's similar in Scotland. But if we go by a similar timeframe (and take into account the determination of the appeal first), it would maybe be October at the latest?
