All criminal appeals are held in Edinburgh. I've been scouring the internet and there isn't much on appealing sentences in Scotland.

They have to consider it, if they just dismissed it out of hand I think that would be grounds for appeal too. Its such an unusual case that I think they may let the appeal go ahead, but I doubt the sentence will be reduced.
Yes, the appeals board will consider it, they have to consider all applications for appeal. I suppose it depends on the grounds for appeal. I just hope they consider not allowing it to reach the High Court.
I know of a father and son who both got convicted of the same crime at the same time, both appealed the sentence (used different QCs) the son's appeal was heard but the father's wasn't. Must've been the way the applications were made and the information contained in the applications.

The appeal wasn't successful though.

Did any of Brian McConnachie's other high-profile clients appeal? What happened to those?

It's crazy. Especially the lulls when it went silent at certain points. Oh yeah, I know Genie will definitely be there. She wouldn't miss it. It wouldn't surprise me if she felt like doing that again either. I just wasn't sure if all of the MacPhail family would attend? I think Toni might not? Or she could if she's there to offer Rab support. The paparazzi are hilarious, it's like they're waiting on a celebrity. I know they're just doing their job though.

I think the average is 5 months or something I read? But that was in England, I don't know if it's similar in Scotland. But if we go by a similar timeframe (and take into account the determination of the appeal first), it would maybe be October at the latest?

Eek I am imagining the silent lulls now, jeepers... I do feel like the rest of the family will attend, I think they will feel like they are doing it on behalf of Alesha and to make sure they see it through to the end. Yeah I think Toni will be there too supporting Rab. I saw/recognised Toni for the first time the other day in town. I think I saw Aaron's mum too (not at the same time or place) but if it was her she looked shorter than I expected and her hair was wavy/curly, not straight like the photo from the press.

I remember when the paparazzi were here, they stood outside the grandmothers house laughing and chatting to each other whilst they waited for something/anything to happen/someone to lay down flowers, someone to come out etc so they could photograph it. It was obv they were completely desensitised to everything because of their job and how much they do this kind of stuff. It was just another day at work for them.

Yes, true, Once it's over with that will be it as well. Just need to get through the one appeal. Oh, did you? How did Toni look? Ah okay. It's so weird. It must have been strange seeing them in person after seeing their photos and reading about them?

It's odd isn't it? I guess like you said it's normal to them, that's their job. But it's a bit much sometimes. No wonder celebrities go mad at them sometimes haha. They must be really annoying.

Oh wow. 2/3rds off.

Imagine that happening? "Aaron Campbell sentence reduced from 27 years to 9." A riot.
I know, i can't even comprehend how they managed to quantify those 2/3rds off.
If his sentence gets reduced there will be hell to pay.

She was busy talking to someone and she looked okay, but of course she must still be reeling from anything but I guess she's trying to just get on with everyday life. She looked very pretty in a girl next door kind of way - the photos in the press don't do her justice at all. Yeah it is strange seeing her, I had seen everyone else previously at one point or another in town (Rab and his mother and her partner) but I hadn't seen Toni around before. It must be surreal for them too seeing their photos in the media and everything being so public, and now the appeal....

My opinion is that this case has generated so much publicity, disgust, shock and outrage. This will be on the minds of the judges, even though they have to be impartial, they're only human. I don't think he'll get a reduction. The only thing that i really want to know is what the grounds for appeal are?

What a huge reduction. The original judge must be a bit confused, no?

Realistically if he does get any sort of reduction I'd imagine it will only be a couple of years? I know that will still cause outrage but I can't see them taking anything substantial off and even then that obviously doesn't mean he'll ever get parole.

Omg. The thing is that things keep surprising me about this case so I do wonder if it's possible the outcome might be unexpected too. Remember when it was suddenly announced that Aaron was taking the stand?! We were all on here like oh...my...god...

Angela? She's still alive, I saw her the other week at her work (she works in a shop in town).
