Accused’s mother says she was trying to get him to phone his sister who’d left the house with friends. Says he was angry, very drunk at the time. He’d drunk a bottle of wine and Mad Dog 2020

Okay now I’m even more confused.

A drunk person isn’t exactly synonymous with stealthiness so it’s remarkable that he managed to break in and take Alesha without anyone hearing him.

Accused was 'very angry' because his sister left party with his friends

The accused’s mother told the court he was “very angry” because his 14-year-old sister had left the house with his friends.

She said she tried to get him to phone his sister.

He was “very drunk”, she said.

The accused had drunk a bottle of wine and Mad Dog, she said.

The accused had a hobby that involved strength and resistance training. He possibly would have been strong enough carry her.

I have an average 15 yo who does no sports and could easily carry a child that size up and down stairs. I'd say any kid that age who genuinely couldn't was seriously out of shape.

Accused's mum woke up to people shouting as they searched for Alesha

The accused’s mother said she awoken at 7.20am to shouting in the street.

She said it was people looking for Alesha MacPhail.

After checking the back garden she woke up her son and asked if he knew anything about Alesha’s disappearance.

He replied “no” and went back to sleep.

She then went out with her dog and joined the search where she met Alesha’s family and ‘reassured them everything would be OK’.

RM i’d assume?

Thanks. Yes must be - although RM said he went to the ferry/town and suspects mother sounds as though she was near the house/woods. But think you're right.

Edit - Hay Louise has just provided the answer - so yes, was the family

Mother was asked to check CCTV. She watched her son leave the house in the middle of the night. He arrived back to the property at 3am. He had a shower. Was making lots of noise. Left the house again wearing shorts. Didn’t have any shoes on. Disappeared for 7 minutes

She tells the jury further CCTV footage saw him leave earlier, come back, where he took a shower and went back out in just a pair of shorts and “what looked like a black t-shirt” - he came back again 7 minutes later.

Mum tells court she saw the accused coming back into their house “around about 3am” on their CCTV camera when she was looking to see if Alesha had walked past the morning she went missing.

Says she went further back in the CCTV to discover he left in the direction of Rothesay town and passed Robert MacPhail’s home. He returned from a different direction and had a shower. He left again wearing only shorts and carrying a T-Shirt and jumped over a wall.

A bottle of wine and 50/50 on the night of the murder?

Mother confronted the accused after viewing CCTV. “You went out again last night”. Accused replied “I dunno. Must have been looking for my phone”. Mother later asked the accused again whether he knew anything about the little girl. Mother was “puzzled”.

Yep.

And just going on his Mum’s claim that he was ‘very drunk’. Doesn’t seem like the usual prep for sneaking into a house unheard.

Thank god for the CCTV footage, this will clear up how drunk he was by his movements and clear any doubt for the jury.
