Hoare told jurors that when Alfie continued to moan, Waterson reversed again saying: "I won't be told what to do by a three-year-old."

But Waterson blamed Mr Lamb, who he regarded as a step-brother, for being a "grass" - and violently assaulted him in Crystal Palace Park - putting his foot on his head and filming the incident on his mobile phone.

During his first trial, jurors were told Waterson was a controlling womaniser, with a violent temper and that he had three previous convictions for attacking an ex-girlfriend and his sister's husband.

Stephen Waterson, 26, killed Alfie Lamb, his girlfriend's son, in 2018 after getting annoyed with his crying.

Hoare was jailed for two years and nine months in May 2019, but was offered early release and left prison in October that year. However her licence was revoked just three months later after she 'placed herself in a risky situation' and then 'lost touch with the probation service', according to parole bosses. She then remained 'unlawfully at large' until she was taken back into custody in May 2020.

Today the Parole Board - which considers whether criminals who are recalled to prison can be re-released - decided she is not yet suitable to be freed again.

I think you disparage the animal kingdom. The maternal instinct is extremely strong in animals, they will sacrifice themselves for their offspring. I agree on your other points though. x

As I read this, there are a couple of geese sitting on nests of eggs behind our clinic’s parking lot. When my coworkers and I walk to and from our vehicles the daddy geese fiercely protects their nests and babies. Some of us have narrowly missed being thunked on the head by the protective geese.


I always think of WS when I walk to my car, wishing that the awful mothers, fathers, and guardians who abuse, neglect, or murder their babies had the protective instincts of a goose.
