I would hope that if she'd been seen heading towards the prom, the police would be asking people to check their videos and pics. Wasn't there an unofficial Loony Dook in the morning? She could well have gone along to watch.

Edit: I'm super concerned. I'm sure we've all gone awol at new year at some point but this is too long.

Her brother's tweet asking people to share posters etc has already had over 1k retweets. As he only has 44 followers, it shows the reach of Twitter when it's at its best. She is still missing, but a lot of support.

The poster is all over various Edinburgh community Facebook pages too. Her brother's first post about looking for her has had 15k shares. It turned up in my feed via a page about an hour after he posted it.

Not much information in the news articles.
Whose apartment was she leaving at 10am?
Did she say where she was going?
The police will know all this. The general public don’t need to know exactly whose flat she was in.

10 AM is an unusual time to go missing. I hope she is ok, just having some time out.

Police in Edinburgh are continuing to search for missing woman, Alice Byrne, who was last seen leaving a party in Portobello on New Year’s Day.

Inspector Keith Scott said: “It is out of character for Alice not to keep in contact with her family and friends. We are becoming increasingly concerned for her wellbeing and we are working to trace her as soon as possible to ensure that she is safe and well.

"Searches and enquiries have been ongoing since she was reported missing, and we are now asking the public for any assistance they can provide.

“I would urge anyone who has seen Alice since Sunday morning, or anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact us as soon as possible.”

If you have any information on Ms Byrne’s whereabouts you should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 0647 of January 2.

The brother of a missing Scots woman has issued a desperate plea for anyone who knows anything about his sister’s whereabouts to contact the police, and thanked those who have already helped in the search.

Alathea Byrne - also known as Alice - was last seen on January 1 leaving a party on Marlborough Street in the Portobello area of Edinburgh, but no one has seen or heard from her since.

I really hope she is taking a mental health break. It's crazy to me that someone can disappear on one of the busiest days of the year in broad daylight. From what posters here are saying it was crazy packed full of people in the area she was last seen. If she is just taking some time for herself I wish she would reach out to her family to let them know what's going on.

Please be safe Alice.

The police are asking for footage from the beach/prom now.

"Searches are continuing today to trace 28-year-old Alice Byrne who was last seen in the Portobello area on Saturday 1 January.
Alice was last seen by her family at her home around 2am on Saturday, 1 January. She met friends in Marlborough Street and left a flat there between 8am and 10am on Saturday morning. She may have headed towards the promenade area. We believe the area would have been busy with the public and vehicles and it is requested that people in the area at the time check pictures, videos or dash cam footage that they may have for any sightings of Alice.
She is described as white, around 5ft 6ins in height and of medium build with short black hair. When she was last seen she was wearing a, black top, black jeans ripped at the knees and white trainers.
Chief Inspector Kieran Dougal from Craigmillar Police station said: “Alice is known to frequent the Portobello and New Hailes areas of Edinburgh. Since she was reported missing, officers have been carrying out extensive searches and enquiries in these areas. Local officers led by specialist search advisors have been assisted by resources including the air support unit, police dogs and our marine unit.
"Officers will continue to speak to people who know her and who live in the local community. Searches are continuing throughout the area and we would also ask local residents to check their outbuildings and sheds, as well as urging anyone with any information on Alice’s whereabouts to get in touch as soon as possible.
“This is an upsetting time for Alice’s family who are extremely concerned that she has not been in contact with them since Saturday. This is completely out of character for her.
“I would again urge anyone who has seen Alice since Saturday morning, or anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact us as soon as possible. If Alice reads this appeal, I would urge us to phone her family, friends or the Police. Contact 101 quoting reference 0647 of 2 January.”

Am I right is saying she appears to have left her home at 2am wearing the mustard hoodie.
But she left the party between 8am - 10am without her hoodie?

That doesn't make sense to me. Although it was mild, you would still need a hoodie or jacket.

In the kerfuffle and sudden daylight after an all-nighter, it'd not be unusual to me for her to have misplaced it/lent it to someone.

Or perhaps she left in a hurry.

About time!

Sounds like police have ruled out her heading towards the high st. Heading towards the water isn’t a good sign.

Realistically she simply can’t be wandering around Edinburgh in a T-shirt in this cold weather after four days with nobody noticing. She’s either in the water or someone’s done something to her.

That's what I'm thinking as well but how does one abduct a grown woman at a busy time of day like that? Surely she would have screamed down the place if someone were to try and take her. Unless a hidden weapon was used? Someone would have seen something right? If she was pulled in to a vehicle or I don't know. Rough day at work and my brain is super fried.

Edited by me to add: I don't want either of those outcomes. I hope she is not in the water and I hope that she is not in some crazy person's basement. <modsnip> I'm grasping at straws here. JMO MOO

Edinburgh, near the promenade, between 8 am - 10 am, no way the weather was mild. It may have been mild for that time of year, but even a hoody wouldn't cut it for me, let alone just a t-shirt.
