The “shocked and distressed” family of missing
Edinburgh woman Alice Byrne have released a heartfelt statement pleading for her safe return a week on from her
disappearance.
A huge community appeal has been launched to trace her, with a massive online presence plastering the city with posters imploring anyone with information to come forward.
Police have launched an extensive search for Alice, also known as Alathea, including the use of drones to scour the area around Portobello Beach and Promenade - where it is believed she headed after leaving the property.
Specialist resources including the marine unit and sniffer dogs have also been drafted in to search the location.
But "extremely worried" family members have now issued their own heart-wrenching bid to bring Alice home, urging those who may be able to help in tracing her to make themselves known to officers immediately.
In a statement via Police Scotland, they said: "Alice has been missing for one week now and we are shocked and distressed by her disappearance.
"She always keeps in contact with us so we are extremely worried because we have not heard from her. We are desperate to know where she is.
“If Alice sees this, we want her to know how much we miss her. We just want her home safe and well.
“We urge anyone who has seen Alice, or who has any information at all that might help police find her to phone officers and pass on any information you have."
The family added: “We are very grateful for the support we have received during this upsetting time. We would like to thank everyone who has shared appeals to find her, the police for their professionalism and especially the local community for all the support they've given.”
