UK - Anita Rose, 57, walking her dog, police investigating suspected murder, Brantham, Suffolk, 24th July 2024'

  • #441
The closing defence speech in the trial of a man accused of murdering a dog walker has been postponed due to his barrister falling ill.

It says the closing speech is now instead scheduled for Monday.
Jury deliberations are to start on Wednesday.

A jury in the trial of a homeless "loner" accused of murdering Suffolk dog walker Anita Rose has been told the evidence against him was circumstantial and there were "significant gaps" in the prosecution case.

  • #443
In the closing speech, Barclay’s attorney said:

"There is no evidence at all of any contact between Roy Barclay and Anita Rose's body… contact there must have been if he was the killer," he said.

"He's innocent unless or until you, the jury, say otherwise."

So, seems the defense is saying any evidence presented by the prosecution is circumstantial, that there is no direct evidence placing Barclay at the scene. Pointing out to the jury that they should have doubt, and therefore, not to convict.

He also mentions his client is autistic and unable to communicate verbally.

What does he mean by that, though. Didn’t Barclay communicate with the officer who stopped to question him when the officer thought he resembled the man they were looking for for their inquiries? Or, did he only communicate the fake name and address by writing it down?

This is the first time I hear about his condition.

But what about the pattern of soles of his boots??? 🤔

Didn't it correspond with the traces on victim's face?
There was an expert testifying, no?

But the reports were soooo scarce or behind Paywalls :(

And things belonging to the victim
found in his camps?
Does the Defence allude the defendant found them on the path?
And the phone?

If Police found the boots with these specific diamond pattern in his camps,
I'm not sure it is exactly circumstantial, right?

The defence closing argument is a bit of a reach tbh - there are many links from Barclay to Anita.

I'm presuming Anita's top and coat were removed by her killer. That could be to remove trace evidence on them. It's a bit of a weak argument to say no contact was evident on her body. IMO

"Man found guilty

of murder of woman walking dog.

1752073183507.webp

Addressing Barclay, Judge Martyn Levett said:

'You need to prepare yourself for a life sentence for the unnecessary killing of Anita Rose.

It will be a lengthy sentence,
and you need to prepare yourself for that'.

Barclay was emotionless as the verdict was returned,
but Ms Rose's partner of 13 years, Richard Jones,
broke down in tears when he left the courtroom."

"Barclay, of no fixed abode,
had denied murder.

But a jury at Ipswich Crown Court took
just two-and-half hours
to convict him of the Ms Rose's murder."

"Speaking outside court, Anita Rose's eldest daughter Jess
described her mum as
a 'strong, brave, vibrant woman'
who felt safe when she walked her dog Bruce
'every day in the wonderful countryside'.

She added:
'We will not forget the wonderful woman that she was
and the light she brought to everybody's lives.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother
and she brought love and happiness to all the people that she touched.
She was incredibly brave.

It's incredibly sad that she will not get to live the life that she should
and that she was taken from us so horrifically'."

@Dotta, thank you for bringing this most important update of Barclay being found guilty.

It made me get teary-eyed, especially when I read “Ms Rose's partner of 13 years, Richard Jones, broke down in tears when he left the courtroom.” 😢

Thank goodness. Now give him 40+ years.

Thank goodness this VILE INADEQUATE will not see the sun for a very long time.
Rest in peace Anita ….. just going about her day walking her dog.
Let’s hope the sentence is lengthy.
I hate him.

I am so glad he was found guilty. He needs to be locked up for the rest of his days.

Condolences to Anita's loved ones. Keep your beautiful memories of her close to your heart.

Who exactly is this murderer? 🤔

What was his job previously?
Does he have any family?
I mean wife, children?

Or was he a homeless person before?
A loner with MH issues?

His first (known) attack was when a man took notice of him raiding rubbish looking for food if IRC.

Does it mean he was homeless & unemployed then?

He is 56, so one would imagine,
this person should be still working, paying bills, and having a place to live.
Leading regular life.

Was anything reported about his situation?
Maybe I have missed this info.

He seems to me a phantom attacking folks suddenly, out of the blue
and then vanishing into thin air
(ummm....off grid)

There doesn’t seem to be a back story on him yet Dotta.
I’m sure after sentencing we will hear more.
He appeared to live rough, has been in prison before and unemployed.

This is chilling.
The DM have reported the lead was around Anita’s neck in this report not her leg.
Horrendous whatever.

My opinion only:

This guy is sick in his head.

And IMO
Always had been.

C'mon
Look at this photo from his younger days.
It shows all 😵‍💫

Unfortunately,
IMO,
his state of mind has been worsening with passing years.
Making him a paranoid loner and drifter living in makeshift camps and looking for food in rubbish bins.
And attacking people.

Did he ever seek help with MH specialists?
I don't think so.

Did anyone hold a helping hand to him during all these years?

I'm afraid there are many like him roaming the streets of modern cities.
Living off grid, society outcasts.

How was wanted man who left online clues free to kill Anita Rose?

The man responsible, Roy Barclay, was on a list of Suffolk Police's most wanted criminals but he had managed to avoid being recalled to prison for the past two years by sleeping in makeshift camps.
....
In the weeks that followed, Barclay was described during his Ipswich Crown Court trial as having lived in carefully-hidden camps and shaving his head to change his appearance.

But despite this, Barclay had left a sizeable digital footprint - using his bank card to order items online and leaving hundreds of reviews on Google Maps. He had been wanted by police since 2022, when he breached the terms of his licence by making himself homeless.

Barclay had been jailed in 2015 for the violent, unprovoked assault on an elderly man in an Essex seaside town, and was released on parole in 2020.

After killing Anita, his internet search history showed he had looked up news articles about the attack. He also looked up Anita's partner on social media.
......

Between 2022 and October 2024, he posted thousands of photos of churches, Amazon lockers, libraries, beaches, council buildings, statues and more - earning himself a 'Level 8' contributor status (the highest being level 10).

One review was of Decoy Pond in Brantham, with photos posted between April and July - the month he murdered Anita a short distance away.

Vile specimen. He can Google review prison and it's facilities now.

RIP Anita Rose. Just absolutely cruel and senseless.

I think that photo is David Farrant, the occultist who Barclay was a follower of.
