UK - Anita Rose, 57, walking her dog, police investigating suspected murder, Brantham, Suffolk, 24th July 2024'

And now I'm left wondering about the other 3 arrestees. And the missing jacket/top and phone. Were they with the alleged murderer, or just happened along later to rob her instead of help her? There wasn't much of a window so suspect the former. This is horrible.

The timings don’t really allow IMO for additional people to come along and rob Anita before the cyclist comes along.

I guess the person charged robbed Anita as well as murdering her and probably sold the goods on to those who were arrested.

In the 2015 attack, after the 82 year old victim said a benign remark to Roy Barclay,:

Barclay followed him and while out of sight of CCTV cameras for just 53 seconds, attacked Mr Gunfield.

He jumped on him and punched him in the head and face, then fled.

I’m remembering Anita’s daughter saying how with the injuries she sustained “she didn’t look like my mum anymore”. With the injuries the poor man in the 2015 incident had a result of the attack, I'm sure the same could be said of the vicious attack. The depth of his injuries is detailed at the link. He eventually had to have ten titanium plates screwed into his skull.

RB must be very strong and full of rage to do such horrific damage.

Hmmm...
From January

"Suffolk police are hunting for Ipswich prisoner Roy Barclay

Roy Barclay, aged 54, is wanted on recall to prison for breaching the terms of his licence.

Suffolk police is asking people across Suffolk and Essex, where he has links, to keep an eye out for a man of Barclay's description."

It’s just horrific. Hopefully he spends the rest of his life behind bars (if found guilty) as he clearly is beyond rehabilitation.

I disagree with your last point - I actually think he’s a very weak person who chooses his victims based on age, size, gender etc. I don’t think you need to be that strong to launch a likely surprise attack on an 82 year old man or a 57 year old petit lone female.

<modsnip - no link to approved post to statement of fact>

As his previous victim's.
His lower jaw was reported disconnected from the face,
not to mention other horrific injuries.
(From report upthread)

Madman's fury I guess.

Yes you're probably right.

I wonder if they cooperated and gave a description of the man they bought the goods from (assuming it wasn't a chain of people involved). If they did why wasn't a description/efit/warning issued? If not then they possibly face more serious charges.

Wearing a dark blue sweater, and with his head closely shaved, he also confirmed that he understood the charges he faced.

The charge relating to his failure to be recalled to prison on June 1, 2022, stated that he did so 'without reasonable excuse' and was 'unlawfully at large'.

Presiding magistrate Anne Walker remanded him in custody to appear later this afternoon at Ipswich Crown Court.

She told him that there would be a pre-trial hearing before a judge at the crown court on November 20.

Ms Walker explained: 'In the meantime you will be remanded in custody until this afternoon before a judge. Please go with the officers.'

It may be entirely coincidental, but there is a similarity between the suspect and our unidentified potential witness from the cctv images. JMO
Yes I thought this too

I’d suggest there was probably abit of a chain effect so they probably had no contact with the alleged killer.

He sold it to somebody cheap.. they sold it to somebody for slightly more etc

I’d imagine he wanted rid of the possessions ASAP

During the short hearing at Ipswich Crown Court, a trial and preparation hearing was set for January 31, 2025.

Judge Martyn Levett also set a preliminary trial date of May 27.

Barclay appeared at Suffolk Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.

I've only just seen the news of the arrest. It's amazing no one dobbed him in before, the cctv image is just so absolutely him, or maybe they did and they just couldn't find him?

It is! They made a point of stating he was a not a suspect, asking the public to keep an eye out for him. I shudder to think what might have happened if someone had approached him on that basis, given his reaction to the pizza comment.

All assuming it is him of course.

Maybe poor Anita made a fleeting comment.
This is one of those cases where I’d love to hear the inner police work they carried out and what led them to him.

Wonder about the jacket though. Would have been easier to take the phone and earbuds on their own I'd have thought.

One on one on a deserted path at 06:30 might not have even needed a comment. Getting Callum Wheeler vibes with this one.

On Crimewatch - and I didn’t watch only read about it- they said the ear pods may have just happened to be in the pocket of the jacket. So not necessarily a known take.

Yeah I was thinking they might be in the pocket, along with the phone. Surely easier/quicker to take them from the pocket rather than take her jacket off, that seems strange to me. Think @Dotta said up thread it looked like he had something up his jumper, maybe it was the jacket.

And...
In this photo he seems to walk rather briskly, as if in a hurry.

Complete opposite to the other one,
where he is bent and seems shuffling his feet.

Looks like the same stretch of road. Wonder which was first? On one he has the hat on and a bag , on the other no bag, possibly something up his jumper, hat or something else in his hand and trousers tucked into socks.

ETA: though it was stated at one point these images were 16 minutes after Anita passed so possibly both before the attack.
