Is it possible for the police to access last calls made or received or messages from a phone that they don’t have/switched off?

I think they can but need cooperation from the service provider.

So "towards the pub" refers to the Lamb? He left the Lamb at 7.16, turned off his phone 5 min later, went somewhere and then turned around, walking back in the direction of the Lamb? Is that correct?

Why? o_O

This is a good map - shows the cctv sighting and the pub location. So he is basically walking in the general direction of the pub, southwards down Market St ( the A 2029 ) as opposed to walking northwards, towards the fire station.

Right. Thanks Alyce. So he might or might not have intended to head back to the Lamb. He could have been just walking around to clear his head. He definitely looks (to me) like he has something on his mind whereas he should be with his friends and colleagues, enjoying himself. I wonder how his friends perceived him before he left.

Well I hope they'll find more footage.

i also wonder how well he knows Lewes. looking on street view map and 'walking' around, theres lots of alleys, narrow reds etc, lots of one way streets too. his phone was off so couldn't be using google maps to navigate

definitely looks like he’s in serious mode, not wandering...although I agree hard to tell from a still.
Surely must be more cctv, maybe a bit of delay with some being found and handed to police, due to Christmas holidays, people away, shops closed.

Could be any number of reasons. Pick up a cheeky gram of coke maybe? Or maybe he just went to get some air as he'd had too much to drink. Maybe he went to get a bite to eat.

Don't firemen in the UK have routine drug testing, so id say that option is unlikely.

I wonder if his battery died or if he turned the phone off. Would be intetesting to know how drunk they all were, what mood he was in etc.

his fiancee did say he wasn't much of a drinker. I will try to find where she said that, think it was in the 'lewes' group

I think that's the problem at this stage, it's quite hard to rule anything in or out without more info. I don't know how stringent drug testing is in the Fire Service, or how long certain drugs stay within the system or whether a prolonged holiday period would give enough time. I wasn't suggesting that's what happened, but rather highlighting that it's so hard to pinpoint anything with so little info.

Yeah he looks....unsteady in that CCTV footage. It gives a very different impression to the still. Which is why you can never tell.

In my opinion and this is purely a guess he has been out on the p..s with his work mates since lunch time by 7.30 they had had a few. Somebody has let out a secret when they were drunk. He has gone outside and made a phone call. Gone to fire station to confront someone but they werent there. Heads back to the pub to meet the lads but somwthing happens on the way back??

It said it's from the barbers on market Street. I wonder whether the time on screen is definitely accurate.

Yes they do but ...;)
It's NOT really that unlikely.
I certainly wouldn't rule it out.

Could be. Or maybe he had a prearranged meeting that went wrong. Maybe he connected with someone randomly on an app and drunkenly stumbled into a situation.

Why would he go to the fire station to confront someone? He works for London fire service. Lewes would be part of East Sussex fire service. Completely different service. I don't think we know that he would know people well from there or at all unless I'm missing something.
