Wouldn't it be far more logical he was looking for a cab or made his way to the train station...

I agree! Everything we know about his character doesn’t seem like he’d wonder out of his way to the river and then just collapse in it and drown.

But from that same article;

"Extensive inquiries have also been made in the Lewes area with local businesses, including bus, rail and taxi services.

"CCTV footage has also been reviewed as part of efforts to find Anthony.

"There is no information available to us at this stage to suggest Anthony left the Lewes area and our searches will continue to focus in this location."

If he had successfully made it to the station, what went wrong from there?

At least today there are no flood warnings....

Flood warnings for Lewes, East Sussex, England - GOV.UK

There a two river level measuring stations:
- Winterbourne Stream at Bell Lane Grill
- River Ouse at Lewes Corporation Yard

River level information for Winterbourne Stream at Bell Lane Grill - GOV.UK
River level information for River Ouse at Lewes Corporation Yard - GOV.UK

From December 23 until now the level of the water was on both locations far beyond the critical levels that would cause possible minor flooding.

Maybe it was different before....could a local please explain.

I'm not local as I live in the North, but Anthony's partner Lucy mentioned that some parts of the flooded areas were improving, but, some parts were still difficult to reach

What would the battery do at the point (if) he entered water?

also, against TOS to link to or discuss but there is strong feelings behind the scenes here stufff going on with the search and locals. Everyone is trying to help. So many people local with knowledge on where to search ....due to heavy recent rainfal, like much of theUK right now, there is flooding to contend with
I've lost 3 phones to water Rosegold and the batteries have gone straight away. Took first two phones to the phone shop I'd bought them from and was told they would never work again, so, didn't bother taking the third!

I wonder if he made it to the train station and then maybe he was robbed there or something, but then where is he?

I can't see it being at the train station RobinCAL with the cctv that should be available to the police. Along with the concern of Anthony ending up in the water is the possibility of him falling down one of the embankments if he had decided to walk home. If you fall down an embankment and break an arm or leg and can't get back up, AND, it's next to a busy road, no one will hear his cries for help. Perish the thought of both these possibilities

The amount of cctv we have here in the UK - safety street cameras, shops, banks, buses, private houses, train stations, trains, plus dash cams- IMO logically he must have gone somewhere off the beaten track (such as the riverside, unfortunately). The only other alternative IMO is that he went willingly in a car with someone known to him and it wasn't captured on cctv, therefore probably picked up somewhere quiet. Sadly I think it's more likely he wandered off though. 7 hours' drinking, if of course he was drinking, which I'm only assuming, would have impaired his faculties despite all his training. All JMO.

Hi @Rosegold68 Just wondering. Up thread you are talking about things behind the scene you seem to know about, without further explanation. Now you referring to "them". Who are them? Are you a family member or acquaintance?

hi.sorry no, I’m not family. Don’t know the family at all. Lucy was in a fb group last night we were all examining the cctv as the owner of it cut it down to clips so we could analyse it. The police should have done that, believe it’s with them now.

I see. Thanks for your reply. Is this a fb site set up for missing Anthony? Then it's not against TOS to post it here.

No it was in the ‘lewes’ Facebook page for the town
To clarify. He left the lamb at 7.16 and his phone was switched off/died at 7.21

nothing since. Not sure where the 1am thing came from

Quite strange as it was reported in all the tabloids that his phone went off at 1am.

Could he have got to water in those 5 minutes? I think it more likely he turned his phone off to be honest.

Yes....Tabloids...they are great in messing facts up. I think is fiancé knows them better. She posted this:

A few of the facts and times have been misunderstood, facts are:
He left THE LAMB OF LEWES PUB at 19.16
His phone died/switched off at 19.21
His phone has NOT been back on since and his bank cards have NOT been used.

NB for the sake of this thread I'm going to post this info here.

I too read in a tabloid yesterday that Anthony's phone went off at 1am.

It seems quite essential when the phone went dead. If the phone went into water with him it wouldn't be working anymore. Between last usage and going dead there would be only 5 minutes. The fastes way walking to the river would be 7 minutes I think. Considering he had to search a bit it would have been taken longer I guess. Maybe he went in the direction to the station and took a wrong turn. It's just a mistery.....

Is it possible the phone was switched off at 7.16 but battery died at 1am ??

  • #137
Has his fiancee confirmed that he used his phone just after 7pm as first reported? Or was that more nonsense? As if he did switch off just after speaking to someone that's possibly relevant
Though its possible if he decided to try and slip the group and go home he may have turned it off also

see #133...she posted the info herself. We have to wait for a confirmation from an official source...LE...to be totally sure. Why is the police not communicating with the public more. I didn't see an appeal about the type and color of the phone. Maybe somebody has found it somewhere, what could be a good lead. Something like this as an example....or pictures of his tattoos etc....

Missing Orpington firefighter urged to 'just come home' by distraught fiancée

"There has been no activity on Anthony’s phone since 7.20pm on December 20 and it has been off since 1am on Saturday, while his bank card has not been used."

Quoted by the press ..if true it sounds like there was a purpose behind him switching it off

I'm confused by the distances involved here ...he is from orpington...his partner dropped him off at west wycombe...a long distance...and they ended up in lewes ...many miles again

Let's leave it like that...the so called facts are all over the place.....tell me about quoted by the press. I've seen to many cases where a lot of BS is brought up and family of missing persons have to dismiss it over and over again.... They must know more about the phone by now....

Yes, you are right about the distance, wondered about that myself. It's about 1 hour drive to go to Lewes. What made them go there...sure there are a lot of lovely pubs closer to home. Maybe they wanted to be more incognito to party hard...being part of a public service. To me it's seems like a lot of fuzz, just to go for a drink, train, expensive cab-ride..the distance....I don't know.
