Perhaps, but MB's Land Rover was reported as being driven erratically prior to the abduction. Also, as I've stated before, the vehicle's tyres and wheel arches do not suggest that it had been driven off-road. Nor is the vehicle clean enough to suggest that it had been washed recently.

I think most likely 'escape route' with unreliable vehicle would be via Tanrallt Street onto Heol Y Doll and A487 north to Dyfi Bridge. That is still consistent with pensioner saying that the vehicle went in the direction of town, only it would be a quieter route, cutting out the town centre, and joining the A487 in an industrial area near the railway - would hardly be noticed, IMO.

(On I-pad and cannot link to map image that I want - grrrr)

I think knowing the weather that night would really help out, but I've been looking and can't find any retrospective weather reports.

I know that it was dry and clear in the evening here in South Wales despite having been raining all day* but that's obviously not a clear indication of what it was like in your area.

* I specifically remember because I was going out with friends on Tuesday night, and I commented on Monday that hopefully we'd get another break from the rain the following evening.
Unfortunately we didn't. Tuesday evening was pouring with rain and we all got drenched walking from the taxi to the restaurant. It also got noticeably darker earlier because of the cloud cover.

According to this post it was raining at 1:30am Tuesday morning so that's a few hours after she was taken. It presumably wasn't raining earlier since the children were outside playing, however there could have been dark clouds around.

Dirk Gently: I was posting the link for another member who was having trouble linking. Disclaimer, disclaimer :fence:

Wasn't taking a pop at you or the other member. The information provided may or may not be true, but I thought it right and proper to point out that there might be some reliability issues with the source.

DS Bevan said that in the briefing where he showed photo of the Land Rover- that the time of day may have affected perception of the vehicle colour. Will be interesting to hear your feedback.

Well, its almost 4pm and there is a wee bit of sunlight hitting my car. You can still tell its a dark vehicle though even with some sky and houses reflected in it. Someone asked about the shape of my street lamps, they are lozenge shaped like one of those iced finger buns. I've also never paid any attention to what colour the bulbs are in the street lamps.

I don't think it was reported that the driver was crashing the gears etc prior to the abduction.

Was it observed crashing the gears after the abduction? Did I miss something?

Great find. Well done! So it would certainly have been overcast in Machynlleth that evening.

53% cloud and raining at 6pm according to Clutchbag's link

Driving erratically and almost knocking someone over on the estate that evening is all we have heard, IMO.

Driving like this could mean a driver was intoxicated or under some 'other' influence. Jmo.

Oh joy! A great treat for a 5 year old to play an extra 10 minutes in those conditions - I don't think!

from a telegraph article

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...ours-to-quiz-Mark-Bridger-over-abduction.html

At 9.15am on Tuesday, Mr Bridger seemed “agitated” as he drove out of Ceinws, the hamlet where he lived, according to a motorist, David Richards. “I was turning into Ceinws off the main road and crossing the bridge,” he said. “He wanted to go out to the main road in his vehicle. He was flustered, he wanted to get going. He couldn’t wait for me to cross the bridge, he couldn’t get out of that road quick enough. He was very agitated. There was only him in the Land Rover that I could see.
“He was crashing the gears, making a hell of a noise. He went out to the junction, then stopped and there was an almighty bang. There was something wrong with the vehicle.”

This might be a start

The 15 mile walk to Borth from Machynlleth in heavy rain. Monday, 1 October 2012

http://rogerforeman.blogspot.com.au/2012/10/the-15-mile-walk-to-borth-from.html

Nice bit of sleuthing, but unfortunately the date on that site is when the page was published, not when the photo was taken. The blog reveals that it was taken on the 25th September.

The weatheronline service ...

http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/maps/city?LANG=en&PLZ=_____&PLZN=_____&WMO=03503&ART=PRE&CONT=ukuk&R=150&LEVEL=150&REGION=0003&LAND=WAL&NOREGION=0&MOD=&TMX=&TMN=&SON=&PRE=&MONAT=&OFFS=&SORT=

... shows heavy rain on Sunday 30th, but only about 7mm on the Monday (this is for a weather station about 20 miles from Mach). My memory is that this fell overnight and in the morning, and that skies were clear by mid-afternoon. Certainly it must have been dry for the girls to be playing out of doors.

I just wish they'd hurry up and find her so that this thread can be moved and we can get on with discussing the criminal case. And for her parents' sake as well of course.

Many of the older orangey kind of street lights are being replaced with newer white lights, and some are being replaced with white down-lighters. (We asked for one of these in our tiny community to replace an old orange light as we are keen amateur astronomers and street lights cause so much light pollution. The night sky is simply so beautiful here in the Cambrian Mountain range.)
The colour and type of street light on that estate would certainly make a difference to how colour is perceived, IMO.

Wow !!! You're a real whiz with these searches.
I've been looking on and off for the last few days for a site that would let me search back to previous weather.

It looks very accurate to me too.
As a sense check, my local weather shows sunshine at 18:00 on Monday 1st with 18% cloud cover and rain at 18:00 on Tuesday 2nd with 89% cloud cover which is pretty much spot on to my recollection of the early evenings on those days.

According to this post it was raining at 1:30am Tuesday morning so that's a few hours after she was taken. It presumably wasn't raining earlier since the children were outside playing, however there could have been dark clouds around.

Yes. I think you're right. I'd also assume that it wasn't physically raining while she was out playing, but that links shows it as a rainy evening and quite overcast (53%) so probably getting dark a little quicker than it would on a clear night.

Do Psychopaths not cry with self pity? This is a genuine question. I am not aware that Psychopaths do not break down in tears.
No they do not. They have no feelings, or empathy for anyone which is why the majority are serial killers. The sliding psychopathy scale will take you down to company bosses who sit at the lower end along with politicians. I highly recommend the book Snakes in Suites to see this fact in action.

I stated on an earlier post that I am always disturbed by people who make the sound of crying without actually producing wet tears.

Here are three examples

Yes, the lack of wet tears was unnerving. With you on that.

I don't think it was reported that the driver was crashing the gears etc prior to the abduction.

He was at Machynlleth primary school on Monday evening, where his Land Rover Discovery was parked in a one-way street and blocked in other parents.
Witnesses have described seeing Mr Bridger driving “erratically” through the estate where April lived an hour before she was abducted.

Mr Bridger’s Land Rover was seized by police later that day at a repair garage after Mr Bridger had been arrested.
