In the States they have a programme called Psychic Detectives, the few episodes I have watched have shown that police can be helped with pointers which proved to be correct, worth a try IMO. I dont know if UK police use such people at all.

In response to a Freedom of Information Request in 2010, the police force concerned in this case confirmed that mediums, clairvoyants or other psychics are not used by the force.

Because this followed a high profile case in which the same force was widely criticised for spending a considerable sum on investigating allegations of a murder that had come from a pyschic, only to prove conclusively that it was a suicide, I think it highly unlikely that any UK force would seek such help.

(I just provide this for information - not, of course, for discussion)

I know that what psychics say is not allowed to be part of discussions, was just asking why UK dont use them in official capacity like LE do in the USA if they have helped locate missing people and give info about perpetrators that solved cases which dumbfounded police. no stone unturned and all that.

I'm not discussing, and to top it off this is info gained from social networking
:truce:

BUT actually a psychic was going to Mach on the family's request on the first friday after she went missing! :blushing:

On one of the previous thread someone mentioned an online virtual trial you could do as a Juror I think....if that person is still on here could you put the link up again please??

They are certainly putting in a heroic effort, which I greatly applaud. However, the reality here in the UK is that police budgets are being reduced by 20% in real terms as a result of the economic situation, so I doubt that they will be able to continue the current rate of expenditure for long.

People have been sending in money and actively "fundraising". It's my opinion that all this money should go towards the costs of the search. Money cannot help the family in this case (as it might in cases where the breadwinner has been lost), and it shouldn't go to some random charity chosen by the family. If it can't be used directly to pay costs, then it should go to the search organisations that are funded by charity. That to my mind is the only appropriate way to use the money.

Or if April is found dead it should go toward a public memorial.

Your wish is my command :)

You're actually the judge in this - it's about passing sentence, choosing the right length of sentence and considering the extenuating circumstances.

That's a very good idea. The kind people who have been feeding hundreds of searchers have appealed to food growers and supermarkets for more supplies in the last couple of days, and there are organisations taking part (such as the Brecon Mountain Rescue team) that have no public funding and could really do with support.

And SARDA, the rescue dogs :-)

http://www.sardawales.org.uk/

Welcome to SARDA Wales, we are a specialist Search Dog component of Mountain Rescue (England and Wales) and are permanently staffed by unpaid volunteer Dog Handlers and their dogs to provide a search and rescue service to the Police, Mountain Rescue & Coastguard. We train air scenting and trailing dogs to search for missing people in mountain, rural and urban locations. We have 80-90 call outs each year in North Wales including missing children, vulnerable adults, dementia patients and hill walkers & mountaineers. We are on call 365 days per year in any weather.

On the official FB Find April page, they have posted the webpages for all the search organisations involved so people can visit to show their support and/or donate.

Thanks for this, I hope the link won't be deleted. I'm not a fan of Facebook and I would never have found this, it seems every man and his dog has set up a page for April, but this one is practical.

I must say I was surprised at the number of search organisations taking part, even though it's been in the media reports until you see them individually named you don't realise the scope of it - nor the generosity and selflessness of so many people.

i was reading up on the shannon matthews case as that too involved the largest ever hunt by that police force utilising three quarters of the country's police dogs and hundreds of officers with thousands of house to house inquiries and searches over 24 days. In the end a member of the public noticed something odd which led to finding shannon. this happens in many cases, a person walking their dog for example stumbles across a body as happened with the jo yeates case. I also read that most people which disappear are found between half and one mile away from where they went missing. Here is hoping people will be vigilant and that she is found soon whether alive or not. i notice there is no reward put up in this case by the papers as they have done in the past, that might be because there is a suspect charged though.

Eta just in case anyone thinks Im suggesting this is a case of fake abduction like in the shannon case, no Im not. i googled it to compare the hunt, how long it took, and resources used and how she was eventually found. But I do think someone else knows something.

Eta 2, thanks for extra info and comments on psychics earlier peeps

yes, you are correct: we don't allow discussion about psychics.

I thought there was a section on this forum for things of that sort, or some sort of weird stuff, er I mean alternative detection methods :). Not that I ever went there, but I'm sure I remember people alluding to it. Or did I imagine it?

Hi Clutchbag,
Yes, we used to have a forensic astrology thread here at websleths but it is closed. We don't allow discussion of psychics or forensic astrology on the missing threads. I hope that helps.
