Just as an indication of the difficulty of searching that area, that page links to this fascinating account (Llwyngwern is little more than a mile from Ceinws):

After much searching, I came across a mention of it in a Ward Lock tourist guide to Wales from the 1970s (why did they pick on this obscure feature?), referring to the "Chamber of Hwmffra Goch" as being "a cave behind a waterfall which long served as a highwayman's hide" near Llwyngwern.

Sounds great! Couldn't get the link to work

If it still exists, I'm sure the locals will have pointed searchers to it, but I have a feeling that the water was probably diverted some years ago to power the hydraulic funicular railway that climbs up the side of the valley to the Centre for Advanced Technology.

Not sure about that. The Centre for Alternative Technology has it's own reservoir which, I think, also feeds the cliff railway. The Centre was thoroughly searched by the police, BTW. If streams were diverted they would have been diverted when the site was a slate mine rather than by them hippies up there. ;)

Not sure it's right next door per this from jaldy's post #910:

That is a different cottage from the one marked on the map as Rostrick Cottage, and the one that they are currently searching. It looks highly probable that the "Rostrick Cottage" marker on the map isn't in the right location. The one in your link is further along the road, second-last house on the left.

Looking at the aerial view of Mt Pleasant, I'm not sure where MB would have parked his car or how the neighbour who said the car was missing would have known that, because Mt Pleasant is not really overlooked by any other houses.

Hopefully this link works - street view of Ceinws, looking up the hill to MB house (white house at top of picture, on left). In foreground you can see slate retaining wall which drops down to Dulas which is flowing under the road. Further left (out of frame) will be where it joins Dyfi.

(unless my nav skills are out of whack tonight)

That pin drops on mount pleasant new quay not cienws, totally different place miles away, confused now

There's ample room to park a car in front of the house, and with access to pull on to the road. Have a look using Streetview. Anyone driving or walking past would see if a car was there or not, you wouldn't need to live within view.

I think you may be confused by the fact that the text on the left says

Did you mean:
Mt Pleasant, Glanmor Terrace, New Quay, Ceredigion SA45 9PX, UK

In other words, it is simply asking if somewhere with a similar name was intended. But it wasn't and the image shows Mount Pleasant in Ceinws (on the left of the picture and in the middle distance).

I just clicked on the pin drop info link which just said details, get directions etc, nothing like asking did you mean?

Im not au fait with google map stuff and on my ipad i cant see any images of houses from the link, doesnt matter, i have forgotten the train of thought of this discussion and where we are supposed to be at

was it something to do with the women saying they saw a man with a black bag on the banks of a river? And was that river near MBs house?

Someone asked about how MB could have been catching the bus whilst the road (A487) was closed.

MB was allegedly seen waiting for a bus at the bus depot in Mach at 10am. The A487 was not closed until later in the day, so catching a bus back to Ceinws was a possibility. I was driving home in the afternoon of Tues 2nd Oct and remember that the road block was in place then. IMO the road became blocked as soon as there was a sighting of the suspect, i.e. upon CS's account of who she had seen and where.

Re. the links I posted as, imo, possibly being the quarry/shale bank location near Ceinws where a tributary joins the Dulas: Someone here thinks the shale bank is not there but next to Mount Pleasant, but I took a look at streetview looking from the direction of the A487 and it doesn't look like it to me, jmo.

I may be wrong but I thought he said that it was missing from 8.00 to 9.15, which you wouldn't know if you were just passing by. It could have come and gone during that period.

I had the impression that there were witness(es) who said the car wasn't there at the earlier time, and witness(es) who said it was there at the later time. I can't remember the exact timings that were quoted. It wasn't clear how many witnesses were involved.

I thought that the car wasn't seen shortly before 8am.

A pal has told police the Discovery was NOT parked on his driveway shortly before 8am Tuesday.

And then there was a witness to this:

At 9.15 on Tuesday morning, Mr Bridger seemed "agitated" as he drove out of Ceinws, the village where he had lived for the past month, according to motorist David Richards.

He said: "He was flustered. He was crashing the gears, making a hell of a noise.

We don't know whether the car was or wasn't on his drive between 8am and 9.15am.

Some updated news on the search efforts

Police use 'drone' aircraft to search 300 areas for missing girl.

Officers have also deployed the pilotless “drones”, with the sophisticated "spy in the sky" technology being used alongside private planes that can detect heat signatures, which are also sweeping the area. Specialist sniffer dogs are also being used
Superintendent Ian John, the officers in charge of the investigation, said last night that at least two drones, fitted with sonar equipment, have been loaned to police for free by commercial companies to aid the search.
“They helped us identify any recently disturbed land in live time,” he told The Daily Telegraph.
“They were able to direct us in some areas but we have not yet had any success.”

Sorry, I'll have another go:

Could well be. The detailed OS maps of the area shows a stream from the hilltops apparently disappearing underground close to the Centre, which might well feed the small reservoir. The funicular railway uses 100,000 litres of water a day, only 10% of which is pumped back up (by pressure of the descending carriage), the rest being discharged into the Dulas, so it needs a water supply from somewhere.

But I'm sure that the cave behind the waterfall mentioned in the Ward Locke Guide is no longer there, as it would surely be a well-known tourist attraction these days.

For those who don't know the area, the funicular railway runs up the side of the Corris Valley on the site of a former slate quarry incline, about a mile south of Ceinws (note the difficulty of the terrain for searchers):

@Thanks for the link, veggiefan.

Not much relevance to the thread topic but there's not much else to talk about, so...

My OS map (Explorer 215) shows the (manmade) CAT reservoir fed by a stream from the southeast.

Water from this reservoir flows through the centre's hydropower turbine and into the small on-site lake and thence to the cliff railway.

Surely it should stay here as she is still missing, alive or otherwise?

folks: we do not allow sleuthing of people not considered suspects in this case.

Thanks, I guess I was being a bit lazy in not finding what had been reported.

However, Mt Pleasant does not seem to have a "drive" as such, although the grassed area looks like it may be used for parking. But if the car was parked behind the property against the wall nearest the cottage it would not be visible from the road (on Google there is a white motorhome there but on the other side of that drive). Maybe a good place to park if you didn't want the car seen.
