She reminds me of the woman in the film Misery. No remorse, no regard for anyone but herself, just a cold, heartless monster.
As an adult I'd find it difficult to reason with her or work out what she wanted, never mind a 6 year old. I'm sure she changed the goalposts all the time.
Thats funny cos misery is one of my favourite films :-l) I find it comical how obsessive she and the length she goes to to keep him, obviously it's not funny in this context though.

I get what you mean. It's the bit with the mallet, when she's blaming him for her having to break his ankles. That's what I imagine life was like with them- sorry Arthur, you moved an inch. 4 more hours standing here :(

Yes! It's just so twisted I found it funny but I can see that mentality in ET, it wasn't me ! It's was that little six year old boy

Exactly! When she said she thought he was evil. And - Victor the Tortoise. If he got dropped by Arthur, why did the vet recommend bathing his eyes? The timeline for his death (Victor) and the treatment makes absolutely no sense!

My cousin has a Tortoise, she said if he got dropped she'd be worried about his legs, or his shell. Not his eyes.

The actress in Misery was fantastic!
It was Soooo ridiculous, even comical.

Cathy Bates, she was brilliant. And completely unhinged in it.

I believe he valued ETs opinion above else. For whatever reason that is, which we've all thrashed out. I believe he's expecting to be found guilty. ET, I think she'll forever protest her innocence in all this.
I think TH has shown a degree of remorse, ET hasn't shown any. She was forced to admit the guilty charge of child cruelty. How many other times did she hit Arthur away from the cctv, or before it was installed?
I don't feel the same way. He seemed to show remorse during his police interviews but I think it's completely evaporated since that time. There's enough evidence against ET (IMO) to ensure her conviction, it doesn't require TH's finger pointing at her. And if he did want to secure her conviction he would admit egging her on.

Remorse is incompatible with these statements in court -

"Judge Wall says the prosecution case is that Hughes told the truth in his police interviews but lied during his evidence in the witness box."

"[prosecutor] He tells the jury they will have 'little difficulty rejecting' Hughes' account that he was acting reasonably in a difficult situation."

"He says Hughes was 'utterly insincere' adding: "His breach of trust towards his child was wholly irreconcilable with the love and care a father should have shown to his son."

"Mr Hankin: "Both defendants deny being responsible."

I get where you're coming from. I think he knew he'd beaten Arthur, and only they knew about the isolation. I think he thought ET just went along with it. I do believe she pretended to be an innocent bystander. Ultimately though, it was her house, and as a mother herself she could have voiced her opinion strongly. I think she worked hard to separate Arthur and TH. And, life with Arthur wasn't part of her long term plan.

But, I don't believe he knew about the salt. And I think once he got a solicitor, and was made aware of the salt that's why he pleaded NG. Plus, he maybe wanted to protect her because she was pregnant.

I don't think any of us will ever understand how 2 adults could treat a defenceless little boy like this. My only hope is they get lengthy sentences.

I wasn't going to mention it but she really reminds me of Myra Hindley. Both cold remorseless

The thing i dont get about TH (one of many) is if ET hadnt aborted that child would he have stuck to his original story. He says he found out about the abortion in court but as the father would that information not have been given to him prior to that

I don't think it was genuine remorse in his initial police interviews; he didn't know yet that ET had attacked him, and I think he assumed that Arthur had finally succumbed to all his previous injuries, many or most of which were inflicted by TH himself. His performance of remorse was to minimise the abuse and give justification for it as discipline gone wrong, to get himself a manslaughter rather than murder charge.

However, when he learned that ET had dealt the fatal assault and that he had a rock solid alibi, he realised he had a chance to blame her for everything and get off with it, or at least a much lesser charge.

I think you're right.

TH has the mentality of a teen bully.
Have you ever seen bully's remorse?

Oh very interesting. Never thought of it like that! I thought he was aware from the start that ET must have done something dodgy when he was out.

I feel after watching that video he was in such medical distress.
I wonder had he just collapsed due to be being weak that day if there would be a different outcome. A visit to a dr who could’ve seen the abuse or a trip to hospital that would’ve sent alarm bells to staff.

there are so MANY other scenarios that could’ve happened where he would still be here alive.
It’s the “what if’s” that I’m finding hard to reconcile
I truly feel like he was close to a starvation induced death regardless of that blow that day

high salt levels cause heart attacks so easily. That compounded by his dehydration he was close to not surviving but perhaps closer to medical help. Rather than getting help from being banged on the head

How I cope with this somewhat is I watch that video and imagine that I’m there in that living room giving him a tight hug and wiping his tears and just sitting with him

it’s the mother in me that wants to act on that scene so desperately, like he’s still alive. The fact that he’s no more is a heartbreaking afterthought really.

We all fantasize about comforting and rescuing him <3

He definitely knew he was in very ill health, he would have felt it. He knew he needed desperate medical attention and he also knew that his dad had threatened to kill him many times. I suspect what provoked the fatal assault was that he made a desperate attempt to escape out the front door and save his own life. ET lunged at him and attacked him stop him and to punish him. It would fit in with what Elaine Pritchard said.

And I wonder if any citizens of S. will attend his funeral?
I would go if I lived there.

But I will visit my local church on the day of his Farewell.
I will light a candle and pray for peace of his soul.

RIP little cheeky Angel.
You will play your favourite football game there with friends.
As you were robbed of them on Earth.
