Not much is too much for me. Average bloke in mid 40s. But God in heaven. This poor boy. I have a 7 year old son. I never cry but cant stop. Its the mental agony the lad must have gone through. The sadness and loneliness he felt. Just wanting someone to hold him and feed him. Sorry just need to get it out. They will get their punishment. God look after this boy.

It truly is the most heartbreaking case. It has touched so many peoples hearts. I cant sleep tonight thinking of the little guy. You are right they will get what is coming to them

I have been seeing the updates of this trial posted in the media but haven’t been able to actually read them, as a parent just the headlines make me feel sick to my stomach. One of the worst cases of child abuse/neglect this country has seen in recent times, I’d go as far as to actually say the worst. Poor Arthur, there just aren’t any words for how he suffered its beyond comprehension.

When it comes to UK cases I usually make a point to see them through to the end, but this is one I just can’t, it’s far too upsetting and would keep me awake at night. The trial seems to have gone on for so long, I just hope that Arthur gets justice and these monsters get a whole life sentence. If anyone deserves never to have freedom again it’s these two IMO.

I’m in the U.K and what has happened to Arthur-Labinjo Hughes has absolutely broken my heart and is extremely, extremely distressing. I can only read headlines and brief parts of articles because reading about what happened to him is unbearable. I honestly don’t know how any individual could torture an innocent child and get enjoyment out of it. It’s not human and evil. Arthur’s torture and murder is the worst case I can remember since Baby Peter which is another horrific tragedy. The woman who gave birth to Baby Peter (who is refuse to call his Mum) is trying to get released and is due to have a hearing in January. She should never be released.

I’m so very sorry that Arthur was failed so badly when he should have been protected. I’m sorry that his time alive was unbearable torture, I’m sure he could have been adopted by a couple or a single person who could have given him the loving home he deserved. It is unbelievable that what happened to him can happen. Clearly not enough is being done to protect children.

I hope and pray the two of them aren’t convicted and given a disgraceful sentence of 13 years or something. If you torture a child you should be spending the rest of your life in prison and only leaving it when you die. Individuals who enjoy torturing children cannot be rehabilitated and should not be part of society. I’m so sorry for the jury in this case I hope they are offered counselling. I will be shocked and horrified if the jury don’t and they don’t get the maximum sentence.

It worries me how many children are in the same danger Arthur was in and are being tortured and have nobody to save and protect them. I very much hope there will be an investigation into how Arthur was failed and how he could have been saved and that steps are taken to ensure there are greater protections to protect children from being tortured and abused.

Thank you to all of you for participating in Arthur’s case thread and for caring about him and are waiting to see these monsters convicted. I am sure they will be.

If convicted, is there a possibility one or both could in fact face a whole life order?

According to guidelines if the offender is over the age of 21 and the crime was the murder of a child involving sexual OR sadistic conduct then the starting point for sentencing is 30 years and whole life order is also an option. The definition of ‘sadistic’ is ‘deriving pleasure from inflicting pain, humiliation or suffering on others’, and IMO to continue the prolonged torturous abuse and suffering of Arthur must have given them some sort of gratification. IMO their texts to each other prove that they were enjoying his physical pain and suffering. To knowingly and willingly inflict this level of abuse and neglect upon a child, with complete disregard for his mental and physical suffering falls under ‘sadistic conduct’, why else would you continue to put this lovely little boy through such sickening torture if you weren’t deriving some level of pleasure from it? All MOO

one of the saddest little cries for help

" no one loves me" " no one will feed me today" over and over again :(

what a terrifying and horrible life this little one had
I havent watched the video or listened to the audio. I can't bring myself to. Question : Did the CCTV footage have audio? I thought it was picture only.

I’ve just watched the video of Arthur trying to pick his bedding up and crying that nobody loved him.
Absolutely heartbreaking
His daily existence must have been horrendous.
Did the video have audio as well?

No, the cctv video has no sound, there are separate audio recordings of Arthur crying, saying "nobody loves me", "nobody will feed me today". Its horrific to listen to.

OK, thank you for clarifying. Too horrific for words.

It really is, I always feel guilty if I've had to tell my kids off, even when they've needed to be told and I would if the child wasn't my own and I had to tell them. How these two carried on like normal and how they live with themselves I don't know.

You have to be some kind of "evil" to do this.

Exactly. If ET's attack on Arthur on 16th June hadn't been as severe then this little boy's suffering would have continued unchecked

BBM. He did not even need strangers to adopt him his paternal grandparents and uncles wanted and loved him but the cruel couple enjoyed tormenting a little boy.

Looks to be alot of media attention now. Pierce Morgan tweeting about it. People need to know about this case and those two evil faces need to be shown to the world

It's about time! This is one of the worst cases of child abuse in this country. And the main news outlets haven't televised it. Disgusting! Everyone should know what's happened to Arthur.
1 - 2 children die every week in the UK at the hands of their parents. Definitely needs more public awareness

It makes you wander if the salt poisoning would have continued, until it finally took him.

I've just listened to the recordings again and Arthur is definitely calling "Blake, no one loves me" and It is muffled but I'm sure I hear him say "Emma said no one loves me". I feel so bad for his extended family if they've had to hear this.

Yes it would have. Either way, this court case was inevitable.
Although if it was just the salt, and TH found a backbone and took Arthur to medical professionals he would have survived.

I definitely heard a name at the start too, not sure if it was mummy, nanny or Emma. And there's over 200 recordings, I feel for his family too. Heartbreaking

His granny and uncle must be absolutely heartbroken, devastated and beyond angry at what transpired, after they tried to get help. Every one who failed Arthur (social services, policeman who never got back to the uncle etc.) should also be tried and punished to the maximum. This is an unforgiveable travesty.
